  1. Come. On. Now. If we go ahead and reduce things to terms this basic we might as well say that Fallout and Wasteland are games where you shoot things just as DOOM was.
  2. I doubt everyone was interested in updating their LinkedIn after being laid off, though.
  3. Fallout may have been born from what wanted to be a Wasteland 2, but it's still a very different take on a post-apocalyptic universe. Wasteland was much more influenced by the 80s and had far crazier and outland-ish sensibilities, even more than Fallout 2. It also was (and will be) a party-based title, which instantly makes it a much different beast gameplay-wise from Fallout. Moreover, Fallout changed when Bethesda bought the license, its design shifted towards reflex-based action. Whether you like it or not, it's different, and so it's not even that weird that people would be willing to fund something that has all the semblance to be closer to the originals than Fallout 3/New Vegas.
  4. What. Just because it's post-apocalyptic it's now "Fallout"? Man, I just... my brain.. it hurts...
  5. It's all in Buck's article already, they resized the South Park team/it was affected too. I don't think it will get canceled, but between that and the THQ problems it's certainly not in the best position. It does sound like a project Matt Stone and Trey Parker care about a lot, so I think they'll try to make it work out in some way. Hopefully it works out for Obsidz too in the end. EDIT: Devs listed on LinkedIn down to 116.
  6. Any hints who the publisher was supposed to be? It'd be interesting if it's THQ considering the South Park situation. No hints from the tipster, at least from now. And THQ is not funding South Park as far as I know, just distributing it (I think they were working on South Park before signing the contract with THQ in fact). Still yeah, South Park doesn't seem to be in the best position either :/
  7. Tipster confirmed that it was North Carolina that got canceled.
  8. Uhm, I don't want to fearmonger though, I was just taking a look on Joystiq. GAF, for example, doesn't seem to be pissed at Obsidian about that.
  9. Uh.. that means he's still working at Obsidian or not?
  10. Surprisingly the usually-nitpicky Matt Barton enjoyed the endings. He does decent retrospectives for what it's worth, though I don't know if I care much about his design insight. Worth tossing one more opinion into the fray anyway!
  11. The fact that they (apparently) laid off someone who had just started working is generating a lot of bad publicity on the bigger gaming press. Won't be helpful for when they'll eventually have to hire again :/
  12. That's true and I honestly have no easy solution for the situation! Honestly, the game industry is kind of bad place to work in (any kind of creative industry is, I suppose, though I don't really have stories on e.g. the movie industry).
  13. Josh didn't get kicked when they canceled Aliens so I don't think they'll kick him out now. The lay-offs are "only" 20-30 employees after all ("only" because it's actually a lot of people for Obsidian, basically a fourth/fifth of their workforce). And honestly Kickstarter seems like a good avenue to focus on at least for now, until they manage to come up with a plan. I don't want to sound like an annoying parrot, but the company probably needs some restructuring because business-wise it doesn't seem to be working well.
  14. According to a tip we received North Carolina was canceled and it was a next-gen project.
  15. Don't get me wrong, I can see why people would have doubts about this, and hell, it's money after all, which is especially important during these times, but to me this is a bit more than just Wasteland 2, it's a crowdfunded retro turn-based WRPG. If this succeeds it's proof that games of that ilk can still be funded. Obviously Kickstarter is not something every little team can use, and if too people jump on board it will lose steam, but it's still a very interesting avenue.
  16. I really doubt Obsidian would consider trying if this fails.
  17. ...$65 sorry :/ International shipping. Anyway, I'm a backer! Wooooo! Really excited about the prospect. Hopefully it will be really successful. Chris Avellone will be happy to know that I'm willing to back an eventual Obsidz project too.
  18. To be fair, Harvey Smith apologized for the faults of the game and seemed to have learned his lesson and Arkane is a very talented studio. It's published by Bethesda though, and they don't have a good track record with published titles. On the fence for now.
  19. Assign a number to each one and use a random number generator or something.
  20. That sounds great. But, even though I've already put aside my 100 bucks for that, I get this strange worry (which I cannot even fully explain), that they might "overdo" the oldschool in their oldschool RPG. You know there's a forum where they discuss this stuff. If you're worried about the design be too dated go there and tell them, complaining here about your feeling won't really accomplish much. You have the chance to communicate with the team directly, use it!
  21. Wasteland 2 interview on Rock, Paper, Shotgun
  22. That's definitely *not* a good post, that's grasping at straws because you don't like the ending. It's okay, from what I get the ending is very bad, but don't kid yourself and pretend that there is some Lynch-level multiple interpretation thing going on, it would be extremely inconsistent with the storytelling until that point.
  23. Was this posted? Slides of Josh's presentation: http://diogenes-lamp...Right_Thing.pdf Plus some things he had to say on it on his blog: http://twofoldsilenc...chitecture.html
  24. Is that even possible? It seems like they work on a more complex engine. That would be really cool though. I'm.. not sure what this means? Anyway, it's not like it's impossible, but to be honest I'd really prefer to see Obsidian focus on its own project and Eidos Montreal to continue working on Deus Ex themselves. It's not like they have a connection to the franchise anyway.. at most they could do a spin-off.
  25. Is there any other Obsidian guy listing the CryEngine in their skillset btw? Because honestly, it just doesn't make sense to me to think that Obsidian would be working with it, so I'd be inclined in thinking that it's just that employee working with it on his spare time.
