The base system was fun, but (oooh!) it wasn't very RPG-y, in the sense that I really didn't feel I could create 'my' Geralt. I still remember going to my DM's house for a D&D campaign and he was playing the Witcher and.. BAM! it occured me that he used his Geralt exactly the same way I use mine. Some battle required a little bit of planning (basically 'choose the potions to use') but that was it. It still was fun, but the promise of interaction with environment (follow a monster to its lair if you feel like acting like a witcher), different combat/character styles (mage/alchemist/warrior) etc. is certainly.... promising (ok, bad pun ). There is still the possibility of a failure, but for now I wanna stay on the positive side.

I think humanity is well prepared for the undead. Is it? They could come anytime... And I, for one, welcome our new undead overlords.

More Witcher-y goodness. The new combat system sound more action-y but also more tactical and interesting as time goes on. I'm not sure how I feel about the multiplatform decision, it was in the air for a long while, but really, it all boils down to making a decent UI, control scheme etc. for the PC version.

Yeah, but Van Buren wasn't finished unfortunately (no ****, Cap Obvious!), and the only finished product that featured FotA is Fallout.

Followers of the Apocalypse confirmed. Though they weren't particularly interesting (basically your whole good samaritans) there are potentials for development.

Pathfinder RPG Previews!
WorstUsernameEver replied to Magister Lajciak's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
To be honest a big part of it comes out of maturity of the players. My experience has been like this : everyone STARTS a cheater in D&D, but if you keep the challenge reasonable and give the player the chance to shine, they'll drop off the habit in no time. Though I eventually stopped using D&D as a P&P system since I was fed up with medieval-ish settings and that abomination of a multi-classing system and started to use GURPS which I find elegant and pretty simple. -
I "love" getting quotted by the press... Especially when the quotes aren't actually quotes Lol. Maybe he was talking about the Alien : Crucible 'felt like a finished game' incident?

Stealth pack
WorstUsernameEver replied to WorstUsernameEver's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Doubt it Ausir, for now we have no word on any pre-order bonus in Europe. Just a word to say that if you are living in the UK or ordering from the UK, you can now see the preorder bonuses that will be given out. Play.com has a Assault Pack whilst both Game and Gamestation has the Stealth Pack. Which they have also included images of: http://www.game.co.uk/Games/Xbox-360/Alpha...tocol/~r334933/ http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/53203...PG/Product.html Assault Pack is described as: Includes two exclusive weapons and gives access to an advanced shotgun and rifle as soon as you start the game. Oops, didn't notice, thanks for the clarification. Though, unfortunately (well, not that much, since I don't care for these pre-order bonuses), it seems they're not available for the PC version. -

There aren't different ending for the settlements. There are basically 2 different endings depending if you have good or bad karma, 2 different endings for the 'coward'/'heroic' decision in the end and 2 different endings depending if you put or didn't put the FEV in the purifier. It's all about these permutations. -
Much of the grimness of Fallout 3 came from the art direction really, which while mostly faithful to FO1/2 pushed it a bit with the post-apocalyptic, with green skies, people who didn't bother to clean the floor, places inhabited by people but still full of skeletons on the floor etc. I also must admit, I've never seen the horror aspect in Fallout. The Glow? The only horror was not having enough Rad-X and RadAway. Vault 15? It was just a common dungeon with different tiles than in other games. As from what I've seen from the previews, the humor is actually more similar to the one present in Fallout, I mean, Tabitha isn't really much more ridiculous than Harry, the TV Robots are just another robot in the vein of the Robobrains and Protectrons, etc. I mean, I quite know that Fallout 2 was excessive in his humor, but I don't see any proof that leads me to the conclusion that New Vegas has the same 4th-wall-breaking/parodic tone. EDIT : ****, is there a gallery on the Escapist's site? I wanted to see that supermutant screenshot (in the Feargus' interview) in high-res but I can't find a way. Meh.

Even if you think of all the combinations Fallout 3 has JUST 5 or 6 endings. -

Holy ****, what? I guess, going by the Avellone description, it'll be more like a combination of different endings rolled into one than 32 completely different endings. Like you have Main ending A, B, C, D, E. Then you have some vignettes that are A, B, C, D, E, etc., and the combinations are 32 in total. P.S. : Also, remember that Fallout 3 allegedly had hundreds of endings. Really. Wow. -
That's actually a modified animation, but due to how the foregrips are positioned on most rifles in the game, it's difficult to change the position of the left hand without changing all of the corresponding weapon assets and/or other animations like move cycles, etc. The right hand and wrist were adjusted in the aim and fire. Interesting to know.

Hope that can be turned off. I wonder what they mean by that there are new camera modes during combat, or if that is just referring to being able to use the iron sights. I wouldn't worry much about that, as long as you play the game on the PC, they'll be probably mods out that eliminate that effect. Though I hope it's off at least in hardcore mode.

I've got a new wallpaper (happens once every year, savor the moment mr/s concept artist). The arm of this guy seems a bit off. Fallout 3 standard animations. Unfortunately it seems that Obsidian doesn't have/didn't think they sucked enough to change them. I play in 1st person though, so I don't think it'll bother me much.

Oh come on, GameBanshee already spoilered them, there's no need for you to do it. -
OH NO! A ROLLER-COASTER! WHY IS IT STANDING 200 YEARS AFTER THE DISASTER? P.S. : If you don't get it I'm joking, yes.

Saw it. It seems this time they bothered to take screenshots that look good. It all sounds good, considering we already know that it will be very similar to Fallout 3, let's hope they'll have time to polish it before release. As for the graphics, it's not that it looks like Fallout 3 that it bothers me but the fact that the new assets look much better than the rest.. maybe that's just my impression since I never saw them before though. Anyway, graphics can be tweaked by mods, the story can't (unless you do a total conversion with professional voice actor and an extensive team that lasts 6 years before turning into vaporware lol), and it seems they're taking the right Fallout-y choice there. Good.

I'm a bit worried because of the character vignettes. Shaheed? Knows where the missiles are. Brayko? Knows where the missiles are. Marburg? Knows where the missiles are. I hope there's more to the main plot then Mike never finding those things. Depends a lot on the execution. Remember, also, that they tried to don't spoiler the players, hey, we didn't know a whole lot about the plot 'till a couple of days ago. So yeah, I'm expecting some good twists here and there, and, more than anything, I'm expecting a setting that enhances the roleplaying experience. Not knowing who to trust doesn't have a lot of impact if the story is linear, IMHO, but it has the potential to be awesome in the framework of an rpg, even if a missile crisis isn't particularly original (then again, reality isn't particularly original either). -

I know I bitched a lot about not bein' able to find a complete ruleset for 2nd ed. but really, for me it's fine either way, go with what you can DM better, especially setting-wise (which is basically my way of saying 'if we choose 3.5 you don't it to use its version of the Forgotten Realms' ). -

I may help, but again, 'till I have the game on my hands, I'm not sure how much help I can be.
