  1. It's funny they never mentioned that the "new developer" is actually the, uh... old developer. Also, I still can't get my head around this "shot in the face & born again" dilemma. Wouldn't it feel more natural if they had just beat the courier into a pulp? Both the 'facial reconstruction' and being found alive would make more sense... Oh well, I guess it's a story thing. Actually, consider two things : 1) There have been cases (plenty actually) of people who surviev headshots in reality too. 2) The medical science in Fallout's world is much more advanced, almost miracolous, compared to our. So yeah, doesn't particularly bother me. Depending on who tried to kill you, the fact that they shot you in the head instead of beating you may be an hint that they're professionals, but that's just speculation.
  2. GamesRadar New Vegas Preview. Apparently it's just an online version of the Xbox360 World's one, but it still clarifies a few points.
  3. The Bioware forums aren't closed though. Strange that he can't post there.
  4. You're mixing the background of the setting which is quite silly and the situations presented in the game itself which are typical of the post-apocalyptic genre. I also don't understand what a humorous perk as anything to do with it. I'm pretty sure that if you asked Hideo Kojima if he wanted Metal Gear Solid to be taken seriously he'd answer yes, and yet the game is full of over-the-top, 4th wall-breaking moments, and has even quite a few humorous items. By your logic that too is a silly game? (I'm not arguing about the quality of the game or how one may judge it, mind you)
  5. I dunno I played it again and finished it again just something like 2 weeks ago, maybe, just maybe I know what I'm talking about. Also, I liked Fallout 2, and think it was an interesting take on the setting, but the tone was very much different from Fallout 1. Fallout 1 took itself seriously, Fallout 2 didn't. I also think that, from the sound of it, New Vegas is doing it right, they're focusing on the right things. I'm perfectly aware also of the fact that FO1's setting was far from all-realized. Heck, Tim Cain and Chris Taylor couldn't even agree on the origin of the ghouls!
  6. Nothing to complain here, the graphics are pretty good too.
  7. I was actually talking about Fallout 1. And honestly, stickers aren't game content, so it's not like you're making a particularly vaild point.
  8. That's kinda the point though. Nukes and orbital laser are perfectly fine as ultimate weapons in Fallout but many feel that using them for killing raiders.. strains hit a bit. Mind you, I'm not denying that Fallout has always been on the silly side, since Fallout 1 (again, though, the silliness was subdued for the most part), but there's a balance that's difficult to strike that I feel hasn't been reproduced in Fallout 2 (too much self-awareness) and in Fallout 3 (too much of a contrast between the juvenile humor and the juvenile grittiness). Also, it seems that we have two very different views on the setting, since I could never envision a super-hero quest in Fallout (and in fact, I hated the Fallout 3 quest).
  9. Except they make no mention of its rpg-ness in their announcement.
  10. Anyway, I don't know why, but when I read the title of this thread I imagine it sang on KISS's 'Calling Dr.Love'.
  11. That's what I call a man devoted to the cause. Choices.
  12. Could have given her a few more lines in this trailer.. the only thing I learned here is that she's hot. -Operational Area: Tai Pei-Good instincts ("There's somehing about you.. makes me think I might just be sitting next to a headline.") -Journalist (yeah, we knew that, lot's of other people probably not) -Unknown employer -She's a hot.. talent -Few lines, but a good look at her personality I watched the video, thanks. Just sayin' that compared to other videos it seemed rather... short on lines for her. Mike said almost everything.
  13. Could have given her a few more lines in this trailer.. the only thing I learned here is that she's hot.
  14. Out of curiosity, now that alpha protocol is almost on the shelves, have you moved onto another project?

  15. Bethesda vs. Interplay ended. But who's the winner? You may be in for a surprise...
  16. Maybe then Obsidian could work on a sequel to Rogue Warrior... As long as it's heavy on swearing, C&C and choices between ripping enemy to shreds or making them explode, bring it on!
  17. Well it's a possibility. To be honest, maybe I'm naive, but I don't see why bein' bought by Zenimax would automatically equal a drop in quality/dumbing down their games. It's all speculation though and I don't think Obsidian will join a publisher as long as they're doing well financially.
  18. Mediocre writing? Granted, there were some groaners here and there and the translation was bad but I still find it superior to pretty much everything else on the rpg market except Bioware and Obsidian (not that there is much competition, but still..).
  19. very true. it is more than a little ironic that the hardcore fallout fans is typically the folks least likely to recognize the obvious camp quality o' the fallout universe/games. *shrug* why not have an orbital laser array; if it is balanced, then what is the harm? am not certain why some folks assume that a fo orbital laser array is game-breaking powerful... and we has a hard time imagining what sorta weapon would be game-breaking silly considering the setting. heck, if rationality were a factor, then plasma weapons should be more likely to offend delicate sensibilities than would an orbital laser weapon. a plasma that emits a beam or ray weapon is 'bout as plausible as is supermutants, ghouls, and giant insects. our preferred method o' implementation for space-laser: spend a couple hours doing a quest to unlock an orbital laser weapon... a weapon that could possibly blind a man if he happened to look straight up at the exact moment the weapon is fired. THAT would be plausible AND amusing... though we doubt that most folks (other than Gromnir) would see the humor in such an a "feature." HA! Good Fun! I don't remember any argument on realism made on this forum.
  20. Yes. Not much to tinker with, to be honest. Checked it out. Seems everyone in that thread using Windows 7 has the same problem as I and their fixes doesn't help either. I guess it's just another Windows 7 problem. Good old Windows 7.. Seems I'm the lucky guy then, since I have Windows 7 64.
  21. I guess that if FO:NV is succesful enough Bethesda will consider the possibility but I wouldn't jump to conclusions. (You're not the only one to bring up the possibilty though, plenty of people are doing it in Beth's forums too.)
  22. Extremely interesting interview about The Witcher 2. New info inside.
  23. Don't have this problem, thanks God, I would point you to the Steam forums solutions but I fear you already have exhausted almost all the solutions suggested there. It sucks. Still if you haven't try looking here.
  24. Well in Fallout 1 the silliness was mostly in the background and style. There were plenty of silly random encounters and dialogues, but the quests, locations and stories were serious and, I daresay, gritty (much more than Dragon Age). Fallout 2 had much more silliness (New Reno's style, San Francisco and plenty of quests and dialogues) but overall the world was desperate and post-apocalyptic. Fallout 3 has been discussed to death so I'll avoid the topic altogether. ..... so yeah, silly weapons aren't a problem, silly storylines are a problem though.
