What needs to be added to AP2
WorstUsernameEver replied to Zerosaber's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Seconded. Also, an interesting idea would be to make dossier and intelligence even more deeply connected to the gameplay.. E.g. you buy an intelligence that gives you a false ID and a uniform for infiltrating a CIA outpost.. there you go, it's not a fighting mission anymore, but you have to play your cards right in dialogue and obviously if you end up being spotted, you won't have the protection of your armor. -
E3 first impressions

A game can have a deep reactive story and still be an action rpg in its core guys I just meant that this certainly isn't going to be a 'multiple solution' game that you can complete with only diplomacy.. Then again, I categorize NWN2 OC too as an action rpg, just not that good and smooth. -

Interesting. It sounds like they're going for an action rpg indeed. -
For the company (and the publisher) it very much is. It's difficult if not downright impossible to market an hardcore rpg in these days, and if anything, Obsidian would have probably gone the turn-based/real time with pause route. Mind you, I like the game, and I know sometimes it sounds like I don't, but I'm just about to do a jerkass (suave/aggressive) playthrough with a recruit, and after that a soldier-y/tech-y professional veteran so... Again, nope. I actually think that weapon skill could still be tweaked and be workable, working around factors like reloading time, pure recoil (assault rifle), precision when you're using blind fire, special abilities and such. It's just the skill points determining accuracy/damage that I think didn't work as well as it should (though the 'wait a bit and the reticle closes in' system is certainly better than Bloodlines' system).

But if we're going to disagree about putting RPG gameplay mechanics in an RPG no less what's the point of it being an RPG? Let's make another generic shooter! I'm sorry, I just cannot abide by that. I wouldn't have bought this game if it went the shooter route or I would have picked up Conviction instead. But here you're twisting my words. I never advocated for the elimination of skills! What I was asking is a more elegant and less frustrating (for certain players) implementation. Is it difficult? Hell yes. But if you want to create a great game with a broad appeal while not watering it down.. well... you have to work hard on it. Well, I have nothing to refute that, but there are a lot of people that complained about the difficulty, like even the boss fights were broken. If anything is broken, it's their heads. I'm not going to say that everything works perfect in the game, though. The cover mechanics ... could have been much much better. But that is the only problem I ever had with the game! And the chair in the restaurant in Rome. I cringed at that chair! The table too. That's what I want for AP2, better cover mechanics, chairs and tables in restaurants. Better cover mechanics would be a plus. They're not as bad as some people make them to be though, after playing the Mass Effect 2 demo well.. they were better than AP but not by THAT much.

It's looking good. The only criticism I have would be on the visual side (horrible animations) but then again, I never though they would improve much on them (they did a bit though, see the drunk walk animations on the Strip). I'll be sure to preorder this in October.

They certainly didn't play a bad match, actually I thought they gave their best and played some good football, but Brazil is clearly a superior team, and the fact that they had a lot of difficulties scoring.. well... they just seemed out of form. But I might have been distracted by E3

I guess that children don't count as persons in Sawyer's view. And I doubt we'll see another Little Lamplight.. fortunately.
-
Another not-so-fun match. Brazil seemed out of form, but at least North Korea's goal was particularly nice.

Wait... the Caesar's Legion uses the correct (as far as I know) Caesar's pronunciation? Wow. That's some attention to details (of course, then we'd get into the kind of 'fridge logic', how after 200 years someone has that kind of knowledge about roman's pronunciation blah blah blah... but who cares).

Four new Fallout : New Vegas screenshots. Note that the naming of the images is all done by Bethesda, so, assuming they didn't just slap them on.... the game is in beta stage. Or there's some Beta involved. Mothership Beta?

Am I the only one who found the Assassin's Creed trailer pretty... random? -
Way to focus on all the right details, huh IGN?

Mina seems like the best written romance out of all of them simply for the reason that you have more time to build it up. Admittedly this does get a bit wonked by the hub structure, but I had the feeling of things slowly heating between them, and then when she thinks you're going to go get yourself killed she decides to try to show her feelings for you. Still not as well written as the secret Gelato guy romance you must admit.

Obsidian making Dungeon Siege III
WorstUsernameEver replied to Morgoth's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Looks good. By the way, it appears they've copy pasted a character model in some of the concept arts... maybe that is a pre-alpha or something model? Or was taken from another game/project/whatever? -

It's a console shooter. Its very own nature makes it impossible for it to be good. -

Sorry, I should have read through the whole thread . I'm not sure either comment was directed at you personally though. Not to make excuses, but a lot of the reasons why we can't post too often have already been mentioned. We're pretty busy making games, and also, we don't often have a lot that we can say. I probably delete 3-5 posts a week before I hit the reply button, just because I'm not sure if I'm overstepping the bounds of what I can or should say. Don't worry Joseph, we forgive you. -
