Divinity II - The Dragon Knight Saga
WorstUsernameEver replied to Big Bottom's topic in Computer and Console
The demo doesn't really show the bulk of the game though. If I recall correctly it stops before you can even visit the major quest hub, the city, so... Risen is good. It's a pure Pyranha Bytes game and it certainly has its flaws but it's a very enjoyable experience. -
Yeah, Still in the Dark.. almost forgot about that.. urgh.. Anyway, we should really open a modding thread. Since we don't have one at the moment: Detailed Normal Maps. Basically a guy didn't like the bump mapping in the game and took it upon himself to rework the normal maps of the game. What's more important: they're of the same resolution of the game's default and there's no noticeable performance decrease. Here's a screenshot made by myself that shows the result. Some may find it a little bit too bumpy, obviously.

Talent Pool was much less of a chore since all the artists were relatively close and it had some genuinely entertaining dialogue and speech options. Return to Sender was: 30 minutes of trekking through the gently caressing Mojave Wasteland then 'here's some codes' 'oh, okay'. Repeat 6 times. Then Fast Travel to those same 6 stations again and ask them about the reports. Then go to Chief Hanlon. Quest finished. It's just marginally better than the 'bring me X of Y'... and New Vegas has plenty of quests of that type too. Overall, the quest design of the game is mostly good, but I get the impressions that Obsidian overexerted itself and came up with some pretty poor work too.
-
Well, I generally expect area designers to limit their reliance on fetch quests. New Vegas is really littered with them. It's especially weird in that I don't really remember any other Obsidian game having many fetch quest, nor a modern RPG having that many fetch quests (The Witcher was previously the worst offender). And yeah, I will avoid that quest, though it's pretty bothersome in that the quest is pretty well-written and has some really nifty options in how you can tackle the final part, not to mention that it also has its ending slides.
-
I'm saying that in a sandbox environment there's no need to force the player through a long fetch quest to make him explore. Whatever the supposed benefit was (I honestly didn't find many locations while trekking to bring those damn codes) it was outweighed by the tediousness of the quest gameplay.
-
I was the one who wrote that question. And yeah, I personally wanted something more than a fetch quest, especially since, contrary to what Josh thinks, I didn't find the ranger stations interesting at all and certainly not worth the long and tedious treks. It practically kills the quest replayability and it's a pity
-
Who had the brilliant idea of making 'Return to Sender' a quest with oh-so-many endings and incredibly brilliant writing an incredibly tedious and incredibly long FETCH QUEST? And what was his/her reasoning? I did. The ranger stations are located around interesting areas, so the primary gameplay enjoyment was intended to be derived from the exploration required to reach them. If you've already discovered all ranger stations and done everything around them (not likely), that's a problem. But then again, if you've already discovered the stations, you can fast travel to them. Josh's reasoning sounds rather weak to me.

I don't see how that's clear at all. A good argument can be made against Caesar, but the abundance of options to be friendly to NCR only helps Yes Man/House since they want to maintain tourism. It does not deny the other two. No you can screw over the NCR at the very end and make vegas independent or house controlled. But my point is the NCR is shoved in your face right after leaving goodsprings. and you don't get any real chance to work for CL until near endgame. You can easily bypass the BoS entirely just by happenstance. Same with the Khans. So you really only get any true investment with the NCR, mission wise, until 50% though the game. By then many folks will be so invested with them few will turn on a dime to jump ship the first play through. It simply seems really loaded in favor of you getting into bed with the NCR. With that said, I draw the conclusion the official canon is going to be the courier helping the NCR and them taking the area. I could be wrong but certainly seems thats what the devs wanted you to do by the unbalanced sway in their direction for most of the game. And yet Independent is the most common ending.

It's coming out on PC too. -
Bethesda is handling customer support. That's about everything I can tell you to be of help.
-
Ah noticed that. May think of installing it when I'll start modding New Vegas. Though, depending on how many DLCs come out (next one's going to be Honest Hearts, right Josh? ) I may just wait when all DLCs are out for PC.

Obsidion, do you plan on, you know? Fixing New Vagus?
WorstUsernameEver replied to nafez's topic in Obsidian General
First of all: official support is on the.. well.. official Bethesda boards. So what you'll get here is basically fans and enthusiastic gamers trying to offer you help and answers. Good but not ideal. Just a little note on this: Bethesda (the publisher) coordinates the bug reports and has a better idea of the "big picture" while Obsidian handles the bug fixing proper. Second: What version of the game are you playing? Is it the PC version or a console version? Because, as far as I know, the save corruption bug that comes with the Come Fly With Me quest should have already been fixed in the PC version with the last incremental update. Don't quote me on that, though. Third: Yes, Obsidian are working on a big content patch for all the three version that should come out "fairly soon" (official word here). No, they won't go more specific with when they'll release it. Fourth: Sorry to hear about your experience with the game and hope the bug we'll be fixed soon. Hope this helped you! -
And of course, you can occasionally keep coming to the library to update your 'borrowed' copy and play multiplayer too, amirite? Honestly, there's little justification (if there's any) for piracy right now. Especially since, as long as you know where to get games and you can bear waiting a little bit, you can get them dirt cheap. Not to mention that games are a luxury. That said, I wouldn't think anything bad about someone that really did download games to try them and then either deleted them or bought them (I have met many people that do that with music). I have.. yet to meet someone that does.

Requesting opinions and suggestions

Have you at least looked at the GECK before starting designing? I'm pretty sure you can't change the base skills. -
Unfortunately Dungeon Siege III seems to be focused much more on co-op play and utilizing a single character's abilities than party combat and in general, seems to diverge a lot from the Icewind Dale type of experience you're looking for. If you're interested there are already videos of a public presentation on YouTube so I can link you to those.

Age of Decadence. Indie turn-based Fallout-like game set in a post-apocalyptic Roman empire kind of world. Not sure why Grommy mentioned it. And yeah, its graphics suck.
