Good old Games sounds clarion against DRM

Walked in on someone channel surfing and caught a piece of "The Only Way is Essex" or whatever that program is called. One of those annoying reality fly-on-the-wall documentary type of shows... and good god. The myth of the Essex-Girl is alive, well and totally proved. One of the girls (in their twenties) actually turned around and did this "Wow, did you realise the sun and moon are actually two different planets? I always used to think they were like, the same thing. Just one side was dark when it turned towards us at night and the other side was light during the day.." And she was totally, utterly serious.

Hm, one of the reasons that I'm avoiding Skyrim at the moment is that I got suckered into pre-ordering Oblivion due to my love of Morrowind. Then I found it to be a game that while brilliant on many technical aspects, actually was incredibly lacking in soul and fairly uninteresting to actually play... I take it that people are finding Skyrim to actually be an enjoyable game?

And for the sideline introduction.. Getting Fit the Skyrim Way...

There's nothing I'm really in the right mood to play at the moment.. I guess I'll just wait till friday and I'll probably spend a chunk of the weekend being a little silly in Saints Row.

Finished off Hitman Blood Money, took a bit to refresh those silent assassin skills. Hm, and I'd forgotten that "your majesty" line from Diana at the end. Makes me ponder if there'll be something on that in Absolution.

Urg, trying to juggle finances. I really need (or would at least find it ridiculously useful) to pick up a new external drive so I could back a bunch of stuff up. But trying to fit it in with all the upcoming expenses as we run into christmas and such-like...

Tintin. Lots of amusing little touches. The opening scene has Tintin getting his picture drawn by a street artist. As the camera pans around, all of the artists previous work is on a board in the background - all the exact illustrations of a horde of recognisable characters from the original books. Then when the artist does the "i think i've captured your essence" and turns the sketch around... it's Tintin from the books.

I think that we can agree that Italian hobos eat better than English royalty. There's a reason the only popular brit plate its fish and chips. Historically speaking, England was the high cuisine capital of the known world (at least the European part) a few centuries ago. The idea that the UK only produces crap food is pretty much recent, or at least just over the last century. Pretty much the industrial revolution and the shift to certain type of foods which are generally considered heavy/greasy to the folks from the continent..

They're doing a mass beta weekend for pretty much everyone who's had an account before november isn't it? And a slew of game sites around the world are organising stuff to give away codes for other beta testing times over the next month. So I think pretty much everybody who is actually interested is going to be able to get some basic look at the beta version of the game... Beta Test Weekend

This is one of those mornings I'm really getting annoyed with my sister. More and more she's running late to get into work, which means she's just grabbing time to feed the dogs and stopped taking them out for morning walks or even just a quick run around the garden. Which means the alsatian is even more hyper, so I can't get a morning cup of tea without having to deal with him. I've lost an hour or so so far with various things with him. It's not fair to the puppy to ignore him or shut him up just so i can get on with work an assorted chores, especially if she's not walking him as much. Trying to find that balance of keeping him occupied/un-bored/somewhat tired while still managing to get moments for myself to work and relax..

So to follow with a more recognisable pop-culture reference...

So an old friend of the family turned up to surprise visit us. Which highlighted the fact we don't get enough visitors, so the puppy goes nuts and won't shut up, which makes the spaniel get overexcited and she joins in. Maybe I should start asking people to turn up randomly just to get him used to strangers coming through the door and into the house. When I manage to get them somewhat settled and away from the guest, I then find that at some point in the day the pup had dug a rather impressive hole in the middle of the lawn.

If Game of Thrones was an old school crpg... And yes, potential spoilers for those who haven't read the books or seen the tv show yet...

Urf. Had something like 3 or 4 hours sleep with assorted wakings up through the early hours of the morning. It's kind of grim and overcaste, I've got one of those headaches sliding a spike in, kind of really wish I didn't have to get up when the alarm went this morning... and the puppy just spent five minutes honking a rubber chicken near my ear. So I've distracted him with a rawhide chew, that gives me some momentary peace while I juggle ideas around for a report addendum. Hm, and i've got an opticians appointement later this afternoon. Have to remember that.
