  1. That is absolute bull****. USB drives use quantum tunnelling for smeg's sake and I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a decent solar array that didn't rely on quantum-mechanical discoveries. Have you ever heard of nanotechnology or materials science? Do you understand the basis of modern polymer science (e.g. conductive polymers via quantum decoherence)? Or chip design? Do you know why graphene is important to tech companies (quantum Hall effect)? Or what an ultracapacitor is? What about OLED's - super LED's which exist because we are able to understand excitons thanks to QM? And what about the scanning tunnelling microscope developed in 1981 (again, quantum tunnelling)? Superconductor science ring any bells? In fact, the basis of lasers is raising electrons into higher quantum states. Lasers rely on a knowledge of quantum mechanics which Einstein first detailed in his work "On the Quantum Theory of Radiation". "Very little applications" my arse. If you want to use a modern computer, many somebodies out there need to understand QM intimately. Very recent inventions, what i'm talking about it's the gap between the formulation of quantum mechanics and the practical applications. What was it, like 20 years or so? So I expect to see this yield fruit in the next 20 years. Also, let's face it; the vast potential of these fields remains yet untapped.
  2. Should we filter Colonel Angus too?
  3. Pffft, that's what they said about light amplification via stimulated emission of radiation (also known as LASER)! From the Nature article:
  4. Still too far away for any practical application but it's a nice find. Great touch using dye.
  5. Wow, that's a lot of orgasms.
  6. Wouldn't be easier to stereotype your target demographic and work from that frame?
  7. Actually after the first 2 or 3 stabs (or one depending where it hits) adrenaline and pain shock responses will dull the pain and all that he feels is the bleeding. Unless you hit him to the head, death ensued in 12 sec approx. Don't you feel better knowing he won't suffer.

The USS Maine battleship, Pearl Harbor, the World Trade center; history proves that we have been wusses for a long time
  9. If one of your buddies offered you a ride on the company's plane to sky dive without the consent from his boss, would you take it? What if it was someone offering a free ride at the cost of the company's money? See, pirates have thousands of "buddies" who all get on this thing call the world wide web and share products with each other. Some buddies procure the product, some crack it and some upload it. Then we have a whole network of buddies sharing the same thing. It really it's the same concept of burning one of your friend's albums and then letting another friend burn it too, just applied to the global scale.
  10. I beg to differ sir, democracy is everything away from stable. Giving everyone a voice just causes the many conflicting groups seen during the 60's and even before, many of which still remain. Worst example is the KKK a hate mongering organization that promotes violence but it's allowed it's democratic vote and voice, I would like to know what's civilized about this. Different peoples, different cultures, different history no one form of government is going to encompass the best for everyone in the world. The Chinese are better when under strong leadership, it has been that way through their history. Aside from their Communist "eccentricities"; which compared to other Communists regimes are mellow, they have a pretty stable and successful society.
  11. my Blops experience was pretty much 5 sec of gameplay and 1sec skips.
  12. But so far the US is not known for blocking access to the web like China. If they gain more cyberwarfare capability we may have more incidents like this; the military equivalent of a weapons test.
  13. Is all of the new info on the wiki yet?

We have officially reached Godwin's law Mach 5.
  15. Cuddle it. It, not her, IT. Does this mean that you would cuddle the pile of dog poop even if Milla would be in on it? The picture.
  16. I agree, most people openly against religion have religious backgrounds so it's something very personal for them. Their view is eschewed and they put off religion as extremism, it is human nature after all. Politics got the same treatment back in the 60's with all the Cold War paranoia, so it's not something inherent to religion but something about institutionalized perceptions that it's open to abuse by men.
  17. And the inquisition? That was misunderstood as well in your mind I suppose too. Bible bleeding hearts like you are a dime a dozen from my travels. Always making up rationals for atrocities committed by (their) faith/organized religion. But what's your excuse? I am a ordained Wiccan minister. Last I knew no wars, genocides or mass atrocities were ever committed in the name of Wicca. But if I missed one please do point it out. Wiccan is a modern offshoot of ancient Celts druids and other pagan beliefs, some of which (like the druids) had been involved in ritual sacrifice. So yeah; Wiccan are in the minor leagues when it comes to killing.

Heck of a Freudian slip. Brings back memories... what was his name, Dan Quayle or some such As to the whys and wherefore speculations, quoting myself from elsewhere (because I like the sound of my voice): Why Gorth; I didn't know you were an artist.

  20. Is not about the explanation of what happened is about the aftermath.
  21. Rumor is that Noomi Rapace is the lead female actress for the Alien prequels. A fitting role, considering she can play a tough bitch. Maybe but this is a "psychotic anti-hero, sensitive bitch" Plus I'm wondering how they'll handle the really gritty scenes.
  22. I certainly enjoy a game that has an unique visual style, but it's not necessarily a deal breaker if it doesn't. DA1 had a lot things that worked, I actually found the character models agreeable and it has some of my favorites monster designs. My personal distaste with DA2 is that they scrapped all that work visually and replaced with utter crap.
  23. Who didn't get the reference. At any rate we are almost at the one page limit and I'm the only guy interested. This fundraiser is a failure.
