I just checked out Interstate '76 on GOG (and accidentally bought it..). They even included a glide wrapper with that game! Now I REALLY wish they'd get Redguard.. and Screamer 2.

Well, this sounds promising: "Final verdict: Arcania is a slap in the face of Gothic- and RPG fans, but does offer an enjoyable Hack&Slash experience in a good looking world." Or not.

Are you sure you're not trying to sell anything? Or that your last name is Bot?

Yes, but it seems this must be the biggest release Obsidian has ever shipped. At least in terms of expectations. That must be an added pressure.

I wonder how nervous the Fallout: New Vegas team is right now.

Actually, it's an in-house developed engine that I don't think has an official name. Unless I've missed something vital. But the reasoning is still sound: every developer has to decide if they want to support anti aliasing nonetheless.

I'm really hoping "free quests" means, for example, finding a diary underneath an upside-down tub, inside of which you find clues as to where the previous owner hid his custom Magnum revolver. Like, quests without a giver that you can find if you turn the entire wasteland upside-down. Literally. I love those types of quests. The most memorable quest from the original Gothic was of that type and I think I found it on my third playthrough!

I'm thinking of buying Dead Rising 2 for PC. Did anyone here play it (except Bukkake, obviously)?

And I thought Sweden was expensive. Steam only wants $70 here.. ($52 in retail stores).

I wish more games had nudie cards. It's the only collectible I've ever bothered to collect.

No, but you can call her to stop cooking your food, paying your bills, washing your clothes, changing your diapers and what not. You have reached the age of cut off. Worrying about someone you love is not the same as parenting.

The problem isn't to get it to run, the problem is to get it to run well. As well as a powerful computer equipped with the latest GPU from 3DFx would have done. I don't want software rendering, I want the full Glide wrapped package. I would pay more than $10 for that.

The beginning of the end of specialist retailers?

Piracy would only stop (or at least be marginalized) if people felt they were getting the value they seek with the minimum amount of fuss. Digital downloads is (currently) one step forward and two steps back. Steam is the perfect example: you only need to enter your credit card details once and then it's as easy as a few mouse clicks and you're on your way to downloading your product. Very little fuss. BUT! Steam is also offering games for -
Do they have any of Bethesda's old catalogue yet? I would love to replay Redguard and Battlespire. At work so I can't check it myself. I could never get them to work on modern machines, especially not with Glide wrappers. I would love to play those games in their full splendour as I never had a computer strong enough for them back in the day.

Been thinking of picking up an NHL game. Which is better? Edit: Oops, missed the post above mine.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!, just a dumping ground
mkreku replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
Hmm. If you tell an artist to draw a house and he draws a perfect square with a perfect triangle on top, adds some perfect windows, doors and other 'hously' details and then colours it all perfectly, you'd get a house. If you tell another artist to draw a house and he lets his pen roam free, drawing imperfect triangles, but placed in new ways, draws a crooked square, but makes it work, adds colour all over the place, but in ways you haven't seen before, then adds whatever odd detail he wants to the house while still maintaining its 'hously-ness', you'd get something more than a house. Those pictures unfortunately remind me of the first example. The best artists are the ones who make you feel utterly untalented because you know you'd never be able to come up with something like what they create even if you had a lifetime of tries. -

I believe in the world around me, and that is enough. I do not feel a need to believe in fantasies about what could have been or what could have created us. I would believe in a higher power (or a god) if it presented itself. So far it has not, so I see no reason to believe in one. Just because we currently don't know much about the world around us is not reason enough for me to believe in made up tales to fill the void of knowledge.

I only read that the girl was 14 and the guy 15? A case like that was tested in court recently in Sweden and it was not found to be illegal (15 is the age of consent in Sweden). I'm guessing the laws may be different in the land of the free.

Reading Hurlshot and ~Di is like reading some misplaced characters from an 18'th century novel. "We thoust mustheth protect her virginiteth!!". I knew about ~Di already, but I'm surprised about Hurlshot. With priorities set like that, I wouldn't let my kids be taught by you either, Hurlie. The cop broke the law, the kids didn't. End of story. Good parenting is about keeping the kids off bad influences, off drugs, away from sexual predators, keep them safe and fed and happy in general, and so on. But it doesn't include trying to keep them away from life itself, even if life isn't always what you want it to be.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!, just a dumping ground

That was my biggest problem too. But once I accepted the fact, I had a blast. Even when I died, it felt like I had accomplished something since I got to keep my previous character's experience points in the new game session. I think I was level 13 or so before I even tried the main quest (must have been my third or fourth restart). -
DirectX and copy protection
mkreku replied to KO771's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
There is a huge difference behind the scenes, on the programmers side. DX10/11 is better/more structured, but it doesn't automatically mean games using it will get better graphics. That is still up to the artists. -
RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!, just a dumping ground
mkreku replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
Nope. Dead wrong about Dead Rising. For example, the very first boss you meet (probably) is that Spanish guy who keeps shooting at you from atop a food court. It's a battle divided in two steps: first you have to get behind him and snipe at him through three windows (he keeps running from side to side). When he loses half his hp, he moves on to a more open roof and starts throwing grenades at you. All you have to do then is avoid the grenades and keep shooting him until he goes down. End of battle. No glitching. Another example is the guy in the convenience store. He rolls around a spiked shopping cart and is armed with a shotgun. If you get close, he tries to ram you with the cart and if you get too far away he will try to blast you with his shotgun. Again, all you need to do is keep picking up the food that's littered around the store and make sure you have enough space to be able to avoid him ramming you. If he hits you or shoots you, you find cover and eat some food to regain health. If he misses you when he tries to ram you, he is slow to turn and you'll be able to get a few hits in on him from behind. That's it. No glitching. A third example is the butcher in the butchery. He hangs you up on a meat hook if you get too close and he throws knives at you if you're too far away. But he is vulnerable to heavy weapons, so if you bring a sledgehammer he is a piece of cake. You just have to hit him as much as you can, eat the meat that's everywhere when you get low on health and try to avoid his most brutal attacks (I think he occasionally rushes at you). Strategy, not glitching. I'm beginning to think your irrational hatred of Dead Rising comes from the fact that it is too difficult for you and not from some insinuated 'higher knowledge' of game design. -
I tried it, but I didn't get it. I hammered a few stones, built a small island, got killed by a grey.. thing who shot arrows at me. Read a short online manual, hammered a tree, built a pickaxe, hammered more stone, built a table.. didn't see the point after that.
