  1. Well, even though I think Fallout: New Vegas is one of the best games I've played in the last ten years I'm not sure giving Obsidian another chance at a spin-off is the right way to go for Bethesda. Obsidian has never really impressed me with their world building in any of their games (playing Dungeon Siege 3 right now so I've basically played all their games except Pillars). Obsidian can do writing, sure. But a game is so much more than competent writing. Also, to be honest, I've been more impressed by the writing in Witcher 3 than in any other game I've played in a very long time.. I used to hope for a Fallout 4: New New Vegas, but I'm not so sure anymore.
  2. You do realize that dust is bound to rub together whether you're blowing or sucking, right?
  3. Livin' on the edge!! *cue electric guitars* Actually, I know what I'm doing. Keep yourself grounded at all times, don't touch anything inside the computer and if you have to get close to something, put a finger between the vacuum and the item you're vacuuming to keep it safe (the suction can quickly pull the muzzle towards the item being vacuumed). I'm no fan of compressed air, unless I'm outside and have a compressor. Btw, while I was rebuilding my computer I noticed a really embarrassing mistake I had made when installing my Samsung 850 Pro 256GB.. The SATA3 ports are right next to the older SATA 2 ports, and they're both situated directly underneath my humongous 290X. Apparently when I installed it, I missed the SATA3 and put it in the nearby SATA2 port.. OH THE SHAME. Weird thing is that it was still much faster than my old 120 GB Corsair. I switched it to SATA3 though and it went from fast to lightning fast:
  4. Except.. they're fulfilling a stretch goal with those voice actors. If you had funded the game you'd be pissed if they didn't have those actors in the game. Guess they can't win, huh?
  5. I still haven't finished the base game.. Not sure why.
  6. Ok, that's interesting. I always thought it was the fan trying to cool my horrible 6 core Intel Core i7-970 cpu that made the most sound in my system, but I finally removed the 2 TB Western Digital Caviar Black today and now I can't hear my computer anymore! That thing must have been so noisy! Although, I also vacuumed my CPU cooler today.. Maybe that lowered the CPU fan speed a bit?
  7. Trying to set speed records in Test Drive: Unlimited 2. My poor Koenigsegg CCXR Edition tops out at 458 km/h. I need to buy the Veyron, I guess.
  8. http://www.patches-scrolls.de/patch/2475/7/46121/download It worked for me. I wonder if I can upload it here? Nope, the file is 1.69 MB and max allowed is 1 MB. Unlucky. 1MB, btw?! That's uh.. probably from when I joined this forum.. eleven years ago.
  9. Ok, so I finished Dying Light. Long time since I felt a slight sadness when a game ends. I wanted more! I'm so glad I bought the season pass so I'll get the buggy expansion. Great game.
  10. I must say I really loved the mission in Dying Light where you're tasked with bringing in working UV-lights for some dude. It sounds like any old fetch quest, but it isn't. The UV-lights are mounted on top of the pylons of a huuuge bridge, and because they're UV, you can only see which ones are working at night. Nighttime in Dying Light is scary as is, but on a bridge that's pretty narrow and absolutely brim-filled with undead.. it got my heart pumping, that's for sure. It also took me a while to figure out how to get to the top of the pylons and there were a few surprises along the way to the top too. All in all, a really atmospheric and surprisingly fun mission.
  11. A fan-made "expansion" for Fallout: New Vegas that looks quite good: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-09-30-new-fallout-new-vegas-mod-looks-as-slick-as-an-official-expansion Link to actual mod (whenever it's released): http://baronvonchateau.tumblr.com/
  12. Waiting for nightfall in Dying Light. It's actually kind of pretty and it runs great on my rig.
  13. Oh, I didn't check before I bought it, I just assumed a season pass meant you'd get whatever DLC they released for the game. To be honest, it doesn't really matter. The DLC was only 10€ extra and I already feel the game was worth the price. In fact, I could easily have paid full price for this, I'm enjoying it that much. --- Ok, I checked, Everywhere I read it says the "The Following" expansion is bigger than the main game (area-wise) and it's included in the season pass! But it's only $15 if you don't have the pass so it's still a bargain, considering it's adding 10-20 hours of extra playtime. And buggies. Upgradable buggies.
  14. I finally got Dying Light in the Steam sale (plus season pass or whatever it's called because I want the DLC with the cars..). Why didn't anyone tell me how good this game is?! It's like Dead Island squared! Anyhow, I'm getting my butt kicked at night and go on furious revenge rampages during the day. That's about it.
  15. I installed the Hitachi yesterday. I'm surprised by how silent it runs. None of that annoying ratchety sounds the WD has every time it does a seek. Also, a lot more of the disk was dead than I first suspected. When I migrated to the new disk, I had to restart the computer several times during migration because the WD somehow locks up the entire system forever once it runs into a damaged area. I managed to save all my pics and personal items though and only "lost" a few movies and games (Test Drive Unlimited 2 was the game that finally showed me something was wrong when it stopped working).
  16. Difficult to say. First off, I would recommend the Radeon R9 390X if you're thinking about a GTX970 - GTX980. It's slightly more expensive than the GTX970, but significantly faster (and with 8GB GDDR5 I'd say slightly more future proof) at 1080p. Personally I think the price/performance ratio for the GTX980 isn't as good as for the Radeon R9 390X/GTX970. The GTX980Ti is just stupid as is the Fury. The Nano is kind of cool though, except for the price.
  17. Well, now it's my turn. My 2 TB Western Digital gave up last night. According to CrystalDisk, it's been up and running for 19452 hours.. which would be kind of OK if not my old 500 GB Hitatchi was still up and running flawlessly (not in my computer anymore though). This is only the second time an actively used harddrive has given up on me (the first was one of those infamous IBM glass platter ones). Thanks, Western Digital, but I'm going back to Hitachi again (ordered a 4 TB one today). HGST is Hitachi. And I feel so sorry for everyone who bought a Seagate. Ouch.
  18. I'm kind of disappointed that there's nothing horrifying in these new art pieces.
  19. 40 minutes of gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdbhp2vzpIE I actually watched it for 20-30 minutes. It looks pretty good to me.
  20. So.. uh.. I was in the mood for some retro space adventure and remembered that Elite: Dangerous has been out for a while now and surely must have gotten more content by now. I'm not that interested in buying a game piece by piece so I went to their store to see if I could buy the entire game at once. I could.. 175€. That's $200 for you fatties. Yeeaaah.. No.
  21. I recently started on Dragon Age: Inquisition too (it was so cheap, I couldn't resist), and boy was it a mistake to play it directly after The Witcher 3. It's worse in every aspect!! Dragon Age: Inquisition is not a bad game in itself though. It's just.. mediocre. It reminds me of Kingdoms of Amalur. Basically it's like Battlefield's levels (big but not open world) mixed with really ****ty World of Warcraft combat (press 1, wait for cooldowns, press 3, wait for cooldowns and so on) and Kingdoms of Amalur's cartoon graphics. Oh, and it's all "collect 10 of X to win Y" quests. Everywhere. I'm having fun with it, but I can't help to sit and think about what a huge accomplishment The Witcher 3 actually is while playing it.
  22. Not entirely correct. AMD has built their hardware using a brute force method: lots of simpler operations doing fewer things at a time, demanding massive amounts of draw calls. Nvidia has taken a slightly different route: fewer, slightly more complex operations doing more things at a time, demanding fewer (but still lots) of draw calls. Draw calls have always been a weak point in DX11 (and before) and put a lot of strain on the CPU. DX12 is much faster in this regard. We will see if what AwesomeOcelot says is true or not (Star Swarm being AMD optimized and not a good indication). I would say it's a pretty good indication of what will happen in games using lots of draw calls. Naturally this doesn't affect all genres, but I do think AMD has an advantage in this specific area.
  23. Yeah, I'm usually a proponent of open worlds filled with things to do, but CD Project Red really overdid it with the questions marks everywhere. Especially when it's usually just a bunch of chests under the surface of the sea.
  24. I've been playing the odd resurrected version of Outcast, Outcast 1.1. I remember I played it close to when it was released in 1999, but the computer I was playing it on was way too weak for the game to run well, making combat near impossible to enjoy. Well, my computer is strong enough now.. It holds up surprisingly well for a 16 year old game. It has some quirks (you need to activate an object in your inventory to save your game, for example), but mostly it feels surprisingly modern. It also holds up quite well graphically. It uses voxels so it has a very distinct aesthetic, but it's colourful, detailed and at times quite pretty. There are no quest markers, no quest arrows, no name tags on NPC's, only a notebook that keeps track of your quests for you. It's up to you to remember where things are in the world. Quite tricky at times. But I'm enjoying it. The story is well-written and the dialogue is great so I'm actually interested in seeing what happens next. ... Which reminds me, I've also been playing Shadowrun: Dragonfall a little. It's also well-written, but that's about the only good thing I have to say about that game. I don't think I've ever played a more stiff, rigid game in my life. The maps have like three points of interest max (tiny maps too, with no alternate routes), there's nothing interactive anywhere, you never find any equipment (it's being dished out by the developer at set intervals), your dialogue options don't matter 90% of the time, it has the ****tiest turn based combat ever (it's a miss simulator, ie. anything below 96% accuracy and you will always miss one of your two-three shots per round) and it's sooooo sloooooooooooooooow. I honestly have no idea how this game was so well reviewed as it was. Oh, and the setting.. machineguns, magic and dragons? Really?
