  1. That is indeed the critical issue with horror in games *edit* Horror in general too I suppose, dunno, it's probably a personal thing, some people can repeatedly watch the same horror movie and love it.
  2. I just finished watching Moon, I'm a bit late to the party but it was a good film, I basically sat there and accurately predicted most of the plot, normally this pisses me off but I was just pleasantly satisfied instead.
  3. Nicely put, it's pretty much the scene I was picturing, sound design would be crucial
  4. It'd have to be tension based, maybe it could work if they used the descriptive writing they tried in PS:T along with some godlike audio and lighting skills, audio would probably be the most important. *edit* Is anyone else slowly becoming incapable of reading the suggestions on the blog?
  5. I think Steam having competition would be great, though I do feel ok with Valve leading the charge, imagine a twist in history where EA became the big daddy first, or Microsoft...
  6. I live pretty far from any shops that sell PC games, it's at least an hour's journey if I want a good selection so Steam is actually pretty handy for me, not that I'm totally on board with the concept or the pricing, a lot of the time I can get the boxed game sent via mail order cheaper...where's the damn sense in that? I'd be sad to see boxed games vanish, though now that practically all games come with online security they've screwed us out of a reason for wanting hard copies, we can't even satisfy our primitive hoarding requirements, that box sitting pretty on your shelf is just a placeholder. It does seem that from now on the software pirates and crackers will be the only hope for securing our legally bought products, decent special edition box sets would help ease the pain somewhat, my New Vegas box still feels quite special, regardless of the useless installer disc.
  7. I'm not against horror aspects in an RPG but isometric perspective really doesn't lend itself to terror, also, as much as I enjoyed the Ocean House scene it's no where near as cool the second time through, a bit of a one trick pony, which is kind of the problem with most horror games.
  8. Yeah I'm listening now and just got to that part, made me grin
  9. I just think they tried to come up with Mr Average McCrewcut and unfortunately gave him the voice to go with it
  10. One day I'll give the Mass Effect series an honest go, I enjoyed the first game but got sidelined by Bioshock or Fallout 3 and never finished it, it sounds odd but my biggest problem getting into the game was that the generic Shepherd reminds me of the lead guy from Lost...I know you can redesign the look but that doesn't change the dull acting, I heard he improves in ME2 though. I wish I could get into playing female characters because Jennifer Hale is universally awesome.
  11. Black Ops had a very good ending considering the genre, I feel bit shameful for enjoying that game but it was a decent ride, it depresses me to see it at the top of a BEST EVA! list...
  12. I'm with the guys who say no to more damnable wood elves or green Hobbiton grass but I don't think the setting is a die hard issue, the dividing line for most people seems to be real time vs turn based, I prefer real time but perhaps with the freedom to create a new system there might be a middle ground. Really I just want you guys to do whatever stuff you wanted to do before production costs got in the way, rage against navmeshing vast open worlds and hand placing a thousand empty bottles. The spirit of Double Fine's project is to make a specific type of game that none of today's publishers would fund, I'd love to see Obsidian follow their lead with that, nail your colours to the mast. Oh, full voice acting is most certainly not a requirement
  13. What is in this video? GEMA doesn't allow me to watch it. /Edit: Just watched it with hidemyass.com and stuff look really good. Is that downloadable somewhere? I might actually touch Skyrim again, just to check out this stuff. Not downloadable yet but Bethesda have been pretty responsive to the fans just lately so it's totally possible that they will put out some of it.
  14. I suspect you know a direct PS:T sequel would be the wrong way to go...unless you're feeling personally touched by the hand of the creator at the moment and still have some lightning in a dusty bottle somewhere. The PS universe would be perfect but I'd be happy with something in the same rebellious spirit, some multi-layered philosophical twisting and a load of grim situations to resolve, give me dirt please. Running a few PnP games for inspiration seems to have worked well for you guys in the past, it's maybe something to keep in mind I think Onyx would be the obvious choice for the engine, it's ready to go and would suit an IE style game. Anyway, it's far too late/early and my mind is shutting down, it's been a very cool day. Thanks for listening.
  15. I actually screamed at the screen tonight, AI and pathfinding must burn in hell...still I learnt a few lessons about how the game works, AI is now disabled for most of the time and I've found traps and paralyse spells to be very helpful.
  16. Sad news, I noticed his work in a few of the preview videos, I thought the look of Fallout 3 was brilliant
  17. No racial quests as far as I know, I thought that was a missed opportunity too, at least there's a pretty good amount of flavour dialogue, I played a Dunmer the second time around and there's a noticeable change from a Nord, not massive, just noticeable.
  18. I saw the trailer a few days ago, looks gloriously cheesy.
  19. Some people will have only donated one dollar, it's certainly an ideological investment if not your traditional financial one. *edit* I should add that when it comes to traditional pre orders I've felt royally shafted just lately, $40-50 gone and a six month wait for games that either suck or plain don't work on release day, I'll feel quite at ease having lost $15 if it turns out to be a failed flight of fancy.
  20. Obsidian making a new PST game would be way more tricksy than Double Fine knocking out a generic point and clicker, Tim Schafer could literally throw darts at a drawing board and come up with something workable, PST would be a very delicate project.
  21. I'd suggest someone start up a seperate kickstart for the unofficial bugfix
  22. Avellone, take my money you ****teaser
  23. It feels reasonably tactical to me, I certainly can't just drag click and send the boys in or everyone dies within a minute, potion spamming isn't really possible either thanks to those damn attacks of opportunity. Possibly I'm just not an efficient leveller, I'm a DnD noob really. As soon as I noticed the dialogue skill checks I started putting points into them
  24. The other way the extra money goes to the publishers who are the worst sort of money grabbing, soulless business. I'd rather Double Fine get the cash. Of course, if the game ends up like a budget title considering the cash they have now (after all adventure games are cheap aren't they?) I have my rotten tomatoes ready. Yeah I'll be first in line to gorge on Tim Schafer's quivering corpse if it turns out half arsed, still, I've had disappointments that cost me way more than $15, I just hope they stick to their promise of a "point and click" adventure. Mostly it's just an interesting idea that happens to sit comfortably with how I wish the world could work, screw the middlemen
