What you did today
Walsie what actually happened to your back? Was it an accident? My understanding is that it was an elaborate practical joke involving a dozen chinamen, a zeppelin and a french prostitute gone terribly wrong.

I believe old Volourn here is a classic example of the "Feeling" type of the Myers-Briggs Thinking/Feeling divide.

I watched the Saints game knowing who won, but still almost had a couple of heart attacks. Still, 'hawks next week. Groan.

It's funny, around here you are more likely to have insurance that covers you legal fees than dental. I've never had it, even when I had one of the top benefit packages at the old place.

Best Police in the World
For reference, the European Convention on Human Rights (iirc, didn't check, could be a domestic rule) says that the police can't lie or mislead you in an investigation. Considering the amount of extremely fit women in the police force and the circles we move in, I often do :D

On the other hand, being a dentist is one of the most disgusting jobs I can imagine with that level of education. (Also, materials don't come cheaply.) I advise anyone who thinks that to try their hand in a couple of criminal and child custody cases and the coming back here to tell me that.* *I'm not advising practicing without a license

I've always felt that dentists get off too lightly when it comes to the whole "blaming professions for money grubbing". Seriously, I've studied longer than most dentists and I make nor charge nowehere near what they do.

Obsidian's (rumoured) next kickstarter, what would you want to see?
Probably one of the reasons they went with the voiced protagonist - kind of hard to exhort the friendly armies, when you're mute and just stare awkwardly in cutscenes.

Gore-tex, good chaps. Even Englishmen can wear it, now that Barbour does some of their coats in it. I hear he tried to knock out the guy who was right behind him. Too soon? Too EARLY?

I actually tried to watch 'skins - Giants... it was terribad, and Cousins looked like the fourth round pick he is. Pity, I've been really rooting for the guy for some reason.

D&D settings and versions
I've been going over my collection during the holidays and had a funny realization... Different official d&d worlds seem match particularly well to certain iterations of the game. I mean, that's probably to be expected, but I sort of surprised myself by how automatic those opinions were. For me: Dragonlance: 3.5e D&D The prestige class system works exceptionally well for some of the core organizations of Krynn. The gaming material was also top notch, with Hickman and Weis back in the saddle, supported by the brilliant Cam Banks. Forgotten Realms: 2e AD&D This is more instinctive. Probably just a case of the novels becoming more and more the tail that wags the dog towards the end of their system and WotC's increasingly ill-advised attempts to change the world in fundamental ways... Seemingly just for the hell of it. Planescape: wish I had alternatives here... I really dug it. Probably the way the planes were handled in 2e AD&D impacts my FR take as well. Any ideas on the subject?

I think I've only had pheasant once. And it was a rather large bird that technically.. had it's neck broken by the car in front of us right before we picked it up.... The joys of the New Forest.. ; Although plucking the pheasant was not a pleasant plucking. Have a pluckety pluck pluck Christmas!

The general firearms thread!
I call BS on that one, I spend hours on shooting ranges each week and all the rifles that are fired there all sound alike. They all go BOOOM and thats it, no matter what cartridge is used. The only distinctive difference in muzzle report in long guns is between a shotgun and a rifle, the shotgun makes a sharper, higher sound. While the usual rifle goes ''BOOOM'', the shotgun makes a short ''POW''! Thats probably because much faster powder is used in a shotgun, pistol powder and flakes while the rifle cartridge is filled with slow burning stick and ball powder.I've shot rifles and shotguns without ear protection and I can tell them apart. While the muzzle report of a rifle is manageable a shotgun is outright painful and makes my ears ring for an hour. And about Americans using the weapons of fallen enemies, I've heard many reports of soldiers in A-Stan using captured AK's and Dragunovs. Mercenaries also prefer to use the AK and the FN-FAL over the AR.It's full auto that gives assault rifles a more characteristic sound.
