i dont remember them in fallout 1 and 2... what were they?
-
i thought those vault experiment things were an eastcoast only phenomenon?
-
resident evil games were imo an entirely new genre. neither action nor adventure but sharing a few qualities of each. but i did not know that the sam and max games had fighting in them
-
i think id rather get sins of a solar empire plus that star wars total conversion mod thing over Empire at War.
-
are there any adventure games with weapons? i thought adventure games were like Myst, monkey island, Longest Journey, grim fandango etc etc?
-
That's pretty much Amnesia: The Dark Descent minus the dialogue part. i thought amnesia was an adventure game? either way i've been hearing mostly good things about it and will pick it up this xmas when it inevitably goes on steam super sale

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!, just a dumping ground
entrerix replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
im intrigued by almost all those announced titles, but will remain fairly skeptical until release. I like the font used in that shadows of the damned trailer though. -
im pretty excited about those npcs. I would not have been that interested in raul except I'm stoked about the VA for him. Does anyone know if the other NPC's have unique voice actors? i'm also really glad they included a robo-dog. it would be cool if in Wild Wasteland you could find another cafe of broken dreams and get dogmeat in it though, just for old times sake.

i played through kotor 2 about a year ago and thought it held up pretty well. I havent played kotor 1 since release so i dont know about that one

ok fine I'll play: 1. I want a sci-fi rpg thats more blade runner meets Flashback and less Star Wars rehash. 2. I want a contemporary horror rpg. combat would be rare but important, (ie no regular enemies, only 5-8 "boss fights"), and you character is not a fighter so the combats are actually tense and scary, needing to use information you've learned or your surroundings to get an edge over whatever scary thing/person is trying to kill you. Most of the game would be C&C dialog and exploration, but not in an adventure game way, something more akin to planescape torment without the "dungeons". I also think for this idea to work the game would probably be fairly short, but have myriad pathways through it. To be scary I would not suggest a top down view for this one, a third person rpg would probably be best? 3. a 1920's call of cthulhu rpg. Just adapt one of the cooler P&P modules, like mask of nyarlathotep or shadows of yog-sothoth or something. there is actually some combat in those modules too so there would even be a small handful of "dungeons" in them. 4. a remake of earthbound without the endless dungeon crawling and instead chock full of heartwarming humor. This game should be written by brad bird or some other pixar genius. Also: I know that this may already be on its way in the form of Tim Schafers next game, my fingers are crossed really hard.

it would have to be written incredibly well to hold interest. I could see something like that working eventually, but not yet. I'm sure a lot of people would have fun playing The Office: RPG where you try to reign in michael scott and help the company succeed, but it would only work if the game was actually as entertaining as watching the show. (i dont care if you dont like the office, this is simply an example)

minigames usually just mean that I have to not only reload my last save, but now when I do i also have to replay the minigame. a quick and flat yes or no would be better. or maybe provide a small bonus for completing the minigame but not enough to make it particularly important. a yes or no is best though so i know that i need to improve my skills and then return later to open said door/chest whatever

trust me, its not very exciting in real life. unless you mean you are a lawyer who must do non-lawyerly things, but if you're talking waking up and going to work and drafting legal documents and handling phone calls from cranky clients and opposing counsel who are acting like jerks then forget it, I get enough of that already. I could see a game like heavy rain working though, basically if Michael Clayton was an adventure game or something.

predator rpg? I seriously think my brain just popped. you just named some movies you liked and asked for them in rpg form. thats not new, nor is it a good idea. why not let developers make games from the heart instead of movie licenses? remember fallout? remember how cool and original it felt? Planescape: Torment? settings i'd like to see: any setting done with consistency, style, and care.

its funny, i actually prefer a "you need 10 levels of lockpick to open this lock" than I do random rolls for skill checks. I like even better the idea that a person with high agility can buy levels of lockpick more cheaply than a person with bad agility. its not a perfect system, but i like it and it makes sense to me

stealth WAS broken in F3, at least so far as being unable to kill someone quietly without having the whole town erupt on you anyway

I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favourite thread on Obsidian

it would add a bullet point on the back of the box -

the unskippable beginning of ME2 is absolutely infuriating to me. that said, to make it more action-feely they could add iron sights to all weapons -
that new armor picture made me laugh out loud. that helmet is priceless.

Nehrim: An Oblivion total conversion mod
entrerix replied to Meshugger's topic in Computer and Console
im intrigued, someone play this and then talk about whether its fun or not -
im gonna get awakening eventually, but probably not until i can get it for $15 or so since i've heard mixed things primarily.

advice taken, purchase aborted! cant wait for F:NV and Civ 5!
-
there were a few fun fights to be sure, but sooooo many boring slogfests also which just wreck the pacing of the game for me.
-
i'm just so glad to hear about all that quest content in the game. wandering the wasteland is fun, but wandering the wasteland and completing quests is much much better.

if lair is really that good then maybe instead of a big expansion they will just make 3 expansions like it and then package them together as an "expansion" for those people who dont do dlc? that said, i'd love a bigger expansion for ME2. also: i tried replaying dragon age recently and stopped once i got past lothering because i remembered all the fighting in tunnels i was going to have to suffer through in order to finish the game... has anyone else had this experience? Planescape Torment had bad combat too, but they didnt put nearly as many long dungeon crawls in the game to rub it in.
