  1. guild wars was a lot like diablo 2 with trying to gather skills instead of gathering items. i loved the first game, warrior and necromancer were really really fun to play as for me. i am not that interested in a persistent world, but they say the game will still have lots of instanced areas so im sure I'll love it. plus the makers of the game seriously come across as people who genuinely love what they do and strive to make the game the best it can be. making the sequel soloable is also a huge bonus for people like me who enjoy the diablo-esque parts of it while having little interest in the mmo parts of it.
  2. Fallout new vegas guild wars 2 deus ex 3 borderlands 2 batman arkham asylum 2 Rage Mass Effect 3
  3. i think the screens look pretty awful, and significantly worse than the first game (a first ever for a sequel? worse graphics??) however... i am willing to give them the benefit of doubt and say that perhaps the game looks fantastic in motion, and simply doesnt translate well to screenshots. remember wind waker??? that game had top notch visuals, but only in motion, it looked crap in still shots.
  4. i know I'm late to the party but... the op thought the bioware NWN was an old game? lol
  5. i kinda liked how they would comment on that stuff, though it got annoying after a while, maybe the best answer was just making it happen rarely instead of everytime?
  6. whoa that cover art looks like robert zdar. yikes.
  7. im playing earthbound still, and now im also playing splinter cell conviction since best buy had it on sale over the weekend and i had a gift card. its pretty fun, but the story makes zero sense and the writing is very poor it's more about sneaking around and shooting people than anything else though, but at least they make it pretty fun to do.
  8. yeah, but at least for steam its not a big deal for many users because the only steam games they buy are on those crazy awesome sales where the games cost $5 anyway. if my steam account went bye bye overnight, it would suck, but not as much as me losing 30-100 full price games. i think my whole steam account is probably only worth about $100. and i have a lot of games on it...
  9. i don't really feel like the gameplay is all that dated when I play it, which fps games have moved the genre forward since half life 2? I know cover mechanics came later, but not every game benefits from having them imo, what else?
  10. the driving section in episode 2 of half life 2 is one of my favorite action scenes in any fps ever. my adrenaline was going through the roof during that extended sequence at the end
  11. one of my most anticipated titles is borderlands 2. I have a feeling it's still a very long way off though
  12. are there code sections in the bible?
  13. ok so most likely the preview was wrong and if not I can fix it with the geck. mini-crisis averted
  14. ok so western law is actually not bible based then? its based on mesopotamiam laws?
  15. crap. this is the first piece of news I have read in the year+ i have been following this game that pisses me off. weapons degrade FASTER in hardcore mode? good god why? Weapons degraded WAY too quickly imo in fallout 3, it was ridiculous that you could wander the wastes for days without food or water, but if you used a minigun to kill a super mutant then the gun was half broken by the time the mutant was dead... i really hope that preview was wrong about that info, or that the degradation is completely different in new vegas, because I really didn't care for how quickly it happened before and I was really looking forward to playing hardcore mode. oh well, im sure i can just fix it in the geck so i guess it doesnt matter actually. nm about the sadness i guess... there is still a geck right?
  16. http://www.wsu.edu/~dee/MESO/CODE.HTM this is in the bible? weird... edit: ok i just checked, it looks like this predates the bible... so wouldnt saying that our laws are based on this code mean that our laws are NOT bible based at all?

    Books

when i see plots like this it makes me wonder about the fate of humanity. then again the day of the triffids sounds like an utterly ridiculous premise and yet its actually pretty damn good so what do i know...
  18. so everytime someone says that western law is bible based they are just talking out of their ass? that's kinda what I assumed, but was hoping for that not to be the case because I hear that phrase fairly often.

    Books

ooh a book thread. i never look in the way off topic and here I find a little gem here. though there is a bit too many references to urban fantasy for my liking ah well. I recently finished re-reading call of the wild/white fang, Treasure Island, and a Man Who Was Thursday. all were quite good for very different reasons. My fiance recently asked for a book recommendation, something fun and quick to read but not cheesy... I recommended The Forever War, The Alienist, and Earth Abides... after she turned down Treasure Island and having finished Enders Game somewhat recently. I also thought briefly of recommending Jurassic Park, but I felt that fell too far on the cheesy side of things (after finishing it, she said World War Z was outside the acceptable scale of cheese despite being a lover of zombie films) anyone else have any recommendations for someone like her? (note: her favorite books are, i think, Enders Game, Dune, Neverwhere and Watchmen (the graphic novel) she probably only reads about 2 books a year though, so i have a hard time recommending things to her because I don't really know where to start... I was also thinking maybe a stephen king book, but if you're only reading a few books a year it seems a bit of a waste. I own a lot of stuff, but its all over the map genre wise (though its 99% fiction if you exclude my law library)
  20. used games is a black market now? damn. **** just got real.
  21. bible based law? I hear this get thrown around a lot, I am very familiar with many of the laws of the united states, I am not very familiar with the bible. Can someone explain the similarities between the two? I thought the bible was basically just don't eat pork, dont kill people, dont cheat on your wife, dont worship false idols badaboombadabing. saying that our legal system is based on those ideals is a bit... well... crazy. but like I said, I don't know much about the bible... maybe our US legal system really isn't primarily based around common law.
  22. I majored in sociology. You don't want to know how much money I make now because you would be jealous (maybe not true, I don't know what any of you do for a living, except nepenthe and... was it enoch? someone else was a lawyer too...) Of course, I became a lawyer, not a sociologist. Still, one does not need to major in the hard sciences to become useful to society (cue lawyer joke here...)
  23. or maybe criminal psychology 101? npc 1 has no rake and no money. npc 1 wants to go raking. npc 2 has both. npc 1 kills him, takes the rake and leaves the money. npc 1 now wants to buy beer. npc 3 has money. npc 3 is standing over npc 2's dead body. npc 1 kills npc 3, takes his money, and goes and buys beer. here is your final exam: what the **** is wrong with npc 1? you have 1 hour.
  24. ME does have lots of roleplaying. but that doesnt make it a better game than baldurs gate. if more roleplaying is all it takes to be a better game, then larping is the best "game" every invented...
  25. one of the best little vid bits I've seen from purkake, and I've seen some good ones...
