In the World of Risen forums, someone made a list of info from a Norwegian preview. No levelscaling, slow gun usage, very similiar combat system to the first game (with added "dirty tricks"), 40-60 hours of gameplay... To what level this will be the case remains to be seen, but so far so good.

I know, though the phrase "reconsidered completely" (or rethought, redesigned, etc) never sounds good to me when talking about something which I already liked. Since the guns appear to be muskets and the sort, I'd expect them to be decently effective even at their lowest, but very, very slow to reload - and possibly somewhat inaccurate. Dunno, though.

Good info. Thanks for posting. The selected quote worries me just a bit because I really liked the melee combat in Risen (challenging and not a mere buttonsmashing festival).

Which mod(s) are you using in those pics?

Off-topic: Obsidian's "Jobs" page updated Sounds like something they'd do with The Wheel of Time, if my memory serves me and there actually was something "fishy" about Obsidians involvement in it. -
For some reason I got really annoyed at how long it took for the main title to appear. Dunno why. ... So uh... this uses idTech5, right? They scraped Gamebryo? ... please? Same. Also, the narrators voice and what appeared as a hint of overacting while underacting (can't describe it better) along with the generic epicness of the music somehow made me sigh. From here: So I think it's a safe to bet for Gamebryo, again.

Was anyone else bored half way through the teaser? Don't want to sound like a ****, but that was possibly the most uninspired teaser I've ever seen. I am interested in seeing how Beth will improve from Oblivion and Fallout 3 (if at all), though.

Neither do I. They're more scary than sexy. @EDIT: Oh, ok. I'll keep that in mind.

You're wrong. That was already up yesterday! Jesus Watermelonswollen Platypus Christ! And here I thought... nevermind that, I'll just stop thinking when it comes to these things. NSFW?

1. That's good news. 2. Wouldn't know if that's good or bad. I kinda hoped it wouldn't stack up, but I haven't experienced the game yet, so... Looks like Obs. has tried to take into account even the oddest sexual appeals. Speaking of which, a day from release and the first "appetite mod" has emerged. Call me old fashioned, but that being the first thing I stumbled upon when I first entered F:NV Nexus gave me the creeps and not too flattering thoughts about where peoples priorities lay.

A couple of inquiries: 1. Does the difficultysetting still affect the XP one gets in the odd Fallout 3 way? 2. Do the Stimpak effects stackup in HC-mode, or can one only take one at the time and wait until the healing is done until one can take the second?

That's nice to hear. I hope there's more of that sort of natural ambience in the game, and more "natural" behavior of the wildlife. One could, of course, think that bugs that old should be seen to by now, but you're right, it's not overly fair. And I'm not a tech person so I'll just point my finger at Gamebryo.

Pretty sure that won't be possible. Thanks.

A question: A friend of mine has this game ordered for the Xbox and he doesn't plan on opening an internet account just because of this, so the question goes: Is it possible to download the Xbox patches and burn them to a DVD via a PC and then manually install them from the said DVD? Answers very much appreciated (as I don't have a faintest clue how things on the box work). The IGN UK review sounds really promising.

Bethblog covers some info on the official gameguide. Bits on survival and crafting - and two new screens.

Same here. I liked the Stalker inventory, easy to use and requiring some management at the same time. Anyways, it's good to hear the hunger system is handled in similiar manner.
-
Damn. That's a pity.

But why would you risk it if guaranteed success (minigame) is just beside you? I always felt it kinda odd that the minigame was so easy on every level and yet there was a "force" option with percentual chance. Who would use it, but ones that already want to gimp themselves? It felt like knowingly evading success. Imo.

Awesome/interesting games no one has heard of

Areena 5: A simple and hooking fantasy gladiatormanager RPG. Just a shame it's not been translated to english (or at least I can't find a version that was). -
The logical alternative to what you're suggesting is that you shoot enemies and nothing happens while enemies shoot you and nothing happens. True. There could be some mean control (supply and ammo scarcity for example) to prevent the stand-shoot-stim-repeat situation, if there isn't already, though. I mean, if the combat works how it is explained, there's a world between HC and casual, and I don't know how it feels, even with all the improvements you've done, if the general feel of the casual combat is still the same (with the aforementioned situation in mind). That said, though, I need to experience it before judging. Just giving my impression of the info we've been given so far.

doublepost...

Agreed. I'm not opposed to some damage going through against the player (even the 0,2 can turn the tide in certain situations), but this gives an idea that if I choose not to use HC mode (if I decide I'm not into dehydration and stuff this time around), the combat turns back into me standing put holding the trigger down and spamming stims as damage starts to accumulate even when fighting against foes with heaviest of heavy armor. Anyways, I'll see how it goes in two months.

I'm honestly not sure what is the design reason for this. Then again, it's easily fixable in the GECK. Me neither. I've tried to think that it's for a certain group of gamers who just don't understad the system and get angry if they shoot and shoot and nothing happens, but that sounds kinda cheap solution.

DT for dummies, from Bethboard: That 20% of damage will always go through, was news to me.

Would a "Fistress" go with female, then? About the podcast... I don't know why, but every time I hear Todd talk about RPGs I get immensely depressed. DLC confirmation doesn't move me, got to be one helluva DLC for me to get it (still crossing my fingers for an expansion). The new F:NV music sounds pretty good though.
