Playing a good bit of Rome Total War. Probably should try the realism modification though, my legionaries are like Space Marines in some fights. Still conquering the Mediterranean with the Scipii was good fun. Squalor sure sucks though.

It'd be nice to have no feedback for attacking targets aside from reactions or them falling over dead. Then again maybe there is, and I'm out of the loop

That's why you have CAP. I find having fighters patrolling outside usually helps deal with most raids, well unless it's really, really huge, with your AA. Ah I miss the "everything shoots at everything" in TA. You'd see a Hawk zip over your base, your missile turrets, artillery, laser cannons all try to track it for a shot.

Plenty of ways to crack the turtles though.
