I'm blunt and honest. You see what you get. Take that as you will. *shrugs* And it did, trust me. That said I think they resented the fact I heeded the obsid nwn2 devs when it came to moderation style/approach much more then the bioware folks. That prob didn't do me any favors. As I saw it the obsid forums, transplanted, not biowares.

Well, Dave Gaider used to have bad days in the past, but he seems to have mellowed out a bit. I don't think I've essentially any ME dev post on the boards, though. AFAICT The only Bioware staff who regularly post in those forums are Chris Priestly (community manager) and Stanley Woo (QA guy who is either a masochist or whose duties include policing the boards). The dev team only posts in individual trouble shooting threads (audio bugs, pinnacle station x360 compatibility issue etc.) and rarely, if ever contribute in discussion beyond the issue at hand. Generally speaking it's impossible for everybody to come across as a 'nice guy' and manage a forum of any significance. Generally this is avoided by outsourcing forum moderation (like here, or on a certain official band forum I used to admin for) so that the 'idols' can stick to being the nice guys and the 'bastard moderator/oppressor of free speech' hat is given to somebody not directly connected with the company... I'm not exactly 100 % sure why Bio has adopted the format they have. Most of their moderating staff is from the user base, yet Priestly/Woo seem to be the ones who have to do all the 'hard' moderating. As someone who used to be a mod there before I resigned, the people who are mods there are so in name only in effect. As a 'mod' on the bioware boards you can't take a p*ss without going though the powers that be. And in effect asking the collective if its ok to step in. (Unless its a blatant, clear cut policy violation no one can legit question). Its a CYA mentality as a mod as if someone, ANYONE, complains about why you did such or your mod style you got a email from CP or another bioware peep with 20 questions about why and what and making you feel like they don't trust your judgment at all. Why I tossed in the towel. EVERY time I needed to flex my mod muscle and didn't kneel before the bioware gods asking for permission to do so it usually turned into a dramafest behind the scenes. I am in my 30s I don't need to be hand held. End came fro me when CP emailed me about some guy I smacked around for verbally being abusive and of course he whined to bio acting like the victim. That was the final straw for me, I simply told CP in my email reply, 'listen ill make this easy for both of us, effectively immediately I resign from as mod of the nwn2 forums.' In effect they don't want people who take initiative, or use they own judgment. They want sheep who ask for permission to do their job every time they turn around. That wasn't me. *shrugs*

Playing as rome... huge earth map.. started out where modern day spain is. Moved eastward and settled as far as modern borders of russia where I met greeks. started colonizing north africa until I meet the US mid continent. I met scouts from russia, and native americans but not there borders yet. Alexander decided to go to war with me when our borders got close.. that was a mistake send my pikemen and legions to wipe out his forces then took one of his cities and made it a puppet state. Which I think works well and that makes one less city I have to manage. After I took the city I asked for a truce and gold which he gave without any fuss. Since then he has ignored me and let me do what I want. America seems pretty uninterested in me even though our borders in africa are pretty close. And cathrine seems pretty *issy with me even though border wise were not near each other. She starts off nice but then turns on you pretty quickly it seems. None the of the other civs seem to like her either. Finally napolean is here too.. though somewhat close to me seems to respect me due to my military might and does not want to suffer alexanders mis-step on that level. Late middle ages currently, very interesting so far to say the least...

Since nwn2 isn't a bioware game... I know that, genius, but since the NWN2 manual comments on page 10: "The Neverwinter Nights 2 Configuration Utility, nwconfig, runs automatically the first time you play Neverwinter Nights 2. It is also available from the game launcher by clicking on Configure..." Then I was, stupid me, actually looking on the game launcher for Configure, just like the BioWare game launchers. But the manual lied, there is no such option on my game launcher. I thought I'd fill you in since the only reason for your snide post was to unnecessarily ridicule me, and I wished to return the favor. To those who actually tried to help, thanks again! Ridicule you? Hardly. Just point out you keep saying bioware this and bioware that... this isn't a bioware game so prob not in your best interest to keep comparing it to such. *shrugs* Sensitive much?

You fail reading comprehension so I'll repeat... I said impulse lets your back up/install your games off line and thats the service I use. However civ5 REQUIRES you to install and use steam. Never said I use the service for anything else. Which I don't. Does not keep me from pointing out the flaw I see in it however. Speaking of reading comprehension, maybe you should read the requirements a little more thoroughly before you buy games. Perhaps you need a class on remedial reading as well... When did I say 'OMFG I got home and i need to install steam?!?!?' I was well aware of steam requirement... however does not mean I have to be happy about it.

Now your just talking apples and oranges.. Did I sayI want to retain the games for 20 yrs? However newish games that are 12 months or less old that are still viable is what I am referring too...

If I was a betting man I'd say the investors of lehman brothers, enron (and the rest) said the same thing 24hrs before they went belly up to...

Imagine if Steam had done this. The world would have ended. HAHA Actually this is a valid concern of mine... if Value or Stardock pulls a DNF and ends up in chapter 8 (lets just say for the sake of the discussion it happens, not debating the odds of such) what happens to those of us that have bought games on the service? With impulse at least I can archive the installed games and reinstall them locally as long as I got a copy of impulse still to manage such. Steam from my understanding if the service goes down the games stop working... While I bought many games via impulse and I had to install steam for civ5 (don't get me started on that) I am very apprehensive of this model. As you have a vest interest in the company staying afloat. If it does not you just lost all those games you bought. Valve already have a system in place, should this happen with Steam. Which is...? Not very informative nor reassuring... THe CEO released a statement about it awhile ago. Something to the extent of "in case of catastrophe, Steam has a number of back up plans to make the games available." So even more vague, ambiguous non-verifiable comments are supposed to make me feel better? Wow.. you are not hard to reassure! I OTOH require something of substance.. like facts and details.

Well no. I agree the unlimited extreme is just as unrealistic as 1 per tile. I would liked to see a middle ground. 3 per tile limit I think would have been fine. Still give large scale battle feel but not the unlimited units issues. The unlimited unit issues is moot in civ5 from what I understand anyways, hex limit or not.. as your units are limited by the number of natural resources you have if I recall the dev diary correctly. So pumping out unlimited units couldn't happen anyways.

Same way real armies have it, several units in formation with firepower that jumps over the frontliners. The problem with that concept is each hex is, roughly, a few hundred square miles. Granted its been awhile since I was in the military but I am pretty sure I could fit a few divisions, comfortably, in that sized area. Look at WW2 and the European theater for example and how many divisions and brigades were in a very small area. If there were micro maps and each hex a few square miles then I can swallow this. But looking and the size of the hex in relation to the world map size I can't don't follow that logic nor find it very realistic. If stacking an infinite amount of units in the space and the rest of old Civ's combat mechanics is more realistic for you, then that's fine. All I care is that it's more fun, which it is. So you don't care about realism.. fair enough. Certainly entitled to that opinion. It simply urks me they are trying to emulate large scale battles using small scale tactics on the map.

Interesting. So was Bloodlines part of their lineup?
-
Who hasn't heard of DNF at this point? Exactly.
-
Never heard of them... what did they do?
-
Well he did do Rainbow Six Vegas. Too early, and too thin to say that about DX3, yet. Exactly. Its a non-in game trailer... its entire purpose is to generate buzz. Which its doing looking at this thread if you liked it or not your discussing it. So as far as they are concerned mission accomplished.

Just fraking awesome...

well 32bit cant see more then 3.5gigs of memory. So yea.. kinda needed on that level. Considering 4gig chips are cheap and most modern systems that's standard. And you cant even buy 32 only bit CPUs anymore for the most part... haven't been able for years now. I seems to me your apprehension to it clearly is lack of knowledge on the topic.

You do realize x64 isn't a fad but necessary right? And the cost of x32 and x64 win7 is the same... So I fail to make sense of either of your arguments.
-
As was already said that's not true... it was hinted at, fairly strongly toward the end, in the first game and outright said in the second. ? The Vaults in the first two games were social experiments, not military experiments. In fact, the military experiments were conducted in a totally separate location, the Mariposa base. Apples and oranges. The military can't conduct social experiments? Since when? You are comparing a TYPE of experiment and the conductor of said experiment. One is not exclusive of the other.

x32 or x64? How hard was it to get it running? The KOTOR II forum below is like a years-long problem fest so I assumed the original KOTOR would be even more of a pain to get up and running. I don't understand why people still use x32 ver of win7. Time to move into 2010
