Thats what happens with you have dozens of writers spanning centuries writing the old and new testament. In the old god was a brutal, unforgiving, unloving my way or the highway tyrant. In the new test he apparently gone to rehab, kicked his habit and mellowed up a great deal. In other words different writers, different era trying to get a very different message across. Hence the vastly different attitude. Same as if you took a fictional writer from today had him write a book with some characters then 400 yrs later have another writer use those same characters. Very possible you are going to have some a different personality and outlook in the end that may not reconcile with the first very well. Same issue here.

Better RPing then the BG series? Excuse me while I pee myself laughing so hard... I don't consider the tool of EA a 'threat' at all, there is plenty of room in the CRPG field for both to do well. You simply can't handle the fact the OC sucked arse. You do realize you are the only defender of it? Doesn't that well you something... obvious? Oh that's right WE are all biased and you are the only one who is not... *chuckle*

Clearly some "supporters of Jesus" are not truly supporting Jesus. I call those people delusional. Forgiveness was the message of Christ. Jesus ate and drank with sinners and tax collectors, trying to communicate the truth to them through love. If a nation does not want to follow what scripture says about homosexuality, I say that a true Christian continues to eat and drink with those "sinners", trying to show them the truth through love, not through murder and terrorism. How blind some people are about such a "popular" religion! Christ rebuked those who claimed to be followers but did not actually follow. I would likewise rebuke these so-called "Christians" if I could. If someone sins, it is not my place to punish and judge them. That is God's place. If a nation decides to support what scripture says is sinful, I will try to love that nation even more, not harm it further. The apostle Paul shares about who Christians are in charge of to judge in 1 Corinthians 5:12-13, "What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. 'Expel the wicked man from among you.'" If I am going to rebuke, it will be my fellow Christians, who are subscribing to God's commands, and I will not rebuke people who do not subscribe to God's commands or even believe in Him. Some "Christians" just use Christianity as an excuse to force their will upon others. That is not God's will, however, as His will is love and redemption, patience and joy beyond circumstances in Christ. Wow a Christian who actually understands the bible (for the most part)... I thought all you guys were a myth.. a urban legend.. Sadly not enough 'Christians' like you around...

Eh, Christianity suffers from the same syndrome as all the rest, "my way or the highway". Sites like that amaze me. I cant even understand where they get that much energy to hate something that doesnt even effect you. Actually us pagans don't proselytize nor as a whole think our way is 'right', for the record. Prob why our numbers increase massively every year. Please don't dump us in with the bible thumpers. None the less as for the site is sad and disgusting. But thats the great thing about karma...

Last year was a tough time for Electronic Arts, punctuated by a very disappointing holiday quarter in which the company lost $641 million. EA at the time announced an expansion of its staff reduction plan to 11 percent of its workforce and said it would close 12 facilities. While EA boss John Riccitiello commented earlier this month that, "We delivered on game quality and innovation in calendar 2008," COO John Pleasants has acknowledged that the publisher simply just didn't have the big hits it needed to support its business, according to paidContent.org. Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet conference, Pleasants stated, "The biggest thing was that we didn't make hits [in 2008]." New properties like Mirror's Edge and Dead Space were assumed to be profitable, but in the end sales just weren't high enough. Clearly, EA is rethinking its strategy. Part of that includes a focus on fewer titles

Even NWN. It was definitely the worst of their games, but I enjoyed it. Storywise yes.. in fact by all measure the story was poor. If it wasn't a after thought it certainly wasn't far from such. However, when it came to the toolset and MP functions it broke ground (wasn't the first but certainly the best attempt up to that point). And thats is what saved NWN1 arse. If it was released as a stand alone SP game none of us would be talking about it right now.. except mockingly making jokes at its expense.

Benchmarking Ubuntu vs. Vista vs. Windows 7

Last time I installed linux unless I did a custom install it installed a TON of apps by default. That vs manually added apps its apples and oranges. Again trying to shift the topic on something unrelated. -
NWN2 originally developed by Liquid Ent.?

huh interesting... thanks for the info JAB. In the end you guys ended up using little of aurora anyways as well. I actually never heard of Liquid until this thread... :/ The majority of NWN2 still runs on Aurora. Electron replaced many of the client side systems including the renderer, animation, user interface, terrian/tiles and effects. Did you guys gut the pathfinding and AI too? Been a while since we had these convos so I may be wrong on this. I was under the impression pretty much only the game mechanics were more or less left from the original code by the time you guys finished gutting and modifying. -

That's why in a default install it comes with 5 browsers, 3 office like suits, 952 text editors, 10 media players, 4 email clients, 3 IM clients, dozen game applets and we have not even gotten to the server tools yet? If MS did that we'd never hear the end of it... And yet fits on a single 700MB CD-ROM? I love it when you confront the linux folks with hypocrisy they try to change the discussion rather then say 'yup... our bad'. BTW 'bloat' in this context is not defined by the size of the application but by the sheer number of unneeded applications. -

Clearly you fail at reading comprehension. If you re-read my post you will see I said, and CAP the key point, "With that said I DO NOT think the art direction is bad for da I simply think it uninspired and gave me a feeling of been-there-seen-that."

Obsidian Future Game Rumors on the net
TheHarlequin replied to One_Hot_Chick's topic in Obsidian General
Arcanum II anyone? Well hey would ya look at that? The Arcanum IP is just sitting there being useless, when it could be printing money. Don't you think if Arcanum sold decent numbers there would have been a squeal already or at the very least a producer buy the franchise? From what I recall it did not sell all that well and in fact lost the publisher money. This was troika's issue from the start higher goals and quality product promises to publishers then they could deliver. In the end its what killed them. -
Yes. That identity was not necessarily unique, but it was a strong visual identity which rendered the Forgotten Realms in a very specific way (this was helped by the engine). When I am saying DA looks LOTRish I'm not actually comparing the scales on the orcs' shoulderpads or anything. Hell, LOTR had a strong visual identity. You could say it was generic but places like Minas Tirith, Hobbiton and the Dark Tower had a strong imprint. From what we've seen so far (and yeah, it might seem different when playing full ver), DA is a muddle. On a related note, you must be pretty excited production of the Hobbit is going to start in NZ within a year. Is there any pre-production work going on right now? I read they are going to rebuild the shire for the movie. I wonder if they are going to rebuild it fully or just the area around bilbo's house (dont recall from the book any need to do the full shire like in lotr but I could be wrong, been awhile since I read the book).

I personally do not care much for eve myself. Though I applaude all their efforts and skill at making a niche MMO very successful... however after the xp is released WoDO goes into full production.. hence the point
