Catholic marchers turn on Glastonbury pagans
TheHarlequin replied to Thorton_AP's topic in Way Off-Topic
The irony is the christian/catholic faith stole so much pagan beliefs to make up their own religion they then criticize a lot of their own roots? Would be funny if it wasn't sad. Christmas (pagan yule/winter solstice holiday), easter (pagan ostra holiday of the spring equinox), all saints day (halloween/samhain pagan festival of the dead/last harvest celebration), burning candles/incense, using salt to 'cleanse' a area (like displayed here), etc. Its irony at its finest. On a side note these holidays were not 'made' until the catholic council of rome ~320 CE decided it was easier to convert the pagans if they made their holidays the pagan ones. Hence xmas and the like have pagan holiday roots. -
Seems your missing my point. Look at it this way the first 50 yrs after the war ppl were more about surviving then doing building maint to those surviving buildings. Granted vegas didnt get hit by nukes. However unless for some reason that will be explained later in the game, the buildings were upkept shortly after the war, but also those with engineering exp were available to do so. And those that did cared enough to. Find food to live or upkeep some towers. And even if you had the skills/knowledge you still need the materials and equipment to preform the proper maint on these buildings plus a work force of skilled labor. My point is by the time the human race was getting back on its feet to actually do anything like this all the buildings would have already crumbled and collapsed due to 50 to 100+ yrs of neglect. Or at the very least be beyond the point of saving. Again if you look at buildings that are neglected for even just a few decades they start to look closer to what we see in FO then what would be really depicted. (great example look at the towns abandoned after the nuke plant disaster in russa. After just a few decades the buildings are about 1/2 way to the fallout look of ruins). I simply don't see any way how buildings like those depicted in DC or the outskirts of vegas (like the factories and farmhouses) could still be standings after 200 yrs of neglect. Its a minor quip in fairness but I like to consider myself a armchair scientist and little rule bending like this does stick out like a sore thumb to me.

Over a century since the war.. nearly 2 now.. the runways would have long ago disintegrated and gone back to a natural state. Technically speaking, thats my biggest issue with FO at this point. So much time has passed since the great war none of these buildings would still be standing that are, even in their mostly crumbling condition. The setting looks more like the war happened 50 or so yrs ago not nearly 200. If you watch 'life after humans' tv show their simulations show after 200+ yrs most all man made things would have crumbled and been returned to a natural state. No still standing capitol building or towers in vegas.

I poked around Novac a bit but didn't bump into him. I however not far away met up with Victoria and that opened up the BoS quests when we came upon her bunker. I love Vic and her attitude.. goes well with my merc for the best offer PC I am RPing. So I got her and ED-E and were all doing quite well together. Not sure what the point of ED-E is.. no dialog and seems just some random voice recordings from time to time. It can't take much a beating but it good at ranged support as Vic and I lead the attacks. My next play im going total out for myself to quire power and wealth. Survival of the fittest kind of mentality. So 'evil' if you will. In that case raiding the BoS bunker seems like a sweet option. As there's a ton of cool equipment there and making it my home base. Either case I still need to find a way to wear power armor. Vic is sporting a suit but I can't currently as I need training...

So far I only found ED-E as a companion. I haven't missed anyone yet I hope? Keep in mind I have not got to vegas yet still mulling around the southern part of the map.

Ok finally bought and started playing the game. Since 2 PC patches have been released figured the big stuff has been fixed by now. Played all day yesterday and yet to experience any CtD or serious quest bugs. Some minor bugs but nothing the make the game unplayable or breaks it. That said I am taking a merc out for revenge path. Don't really care who I work for as long as I get to my killers. Best offer wins my muscle. So far that makes it where the powder gangers hate me, but so far all other 4 factions I've come across either are neutral to me or have a like to me. I am sure it's only a matter of time before I come to a cross roads and that changes however. I just got to the point in the main quest where I found out mr. pin suit is in vegas at the tops casino. But I am exploring the south area first before I make my way to the strip, racking up some xp and lvls. As I have a feeling I will need them. That said am I to assume no bobble heads in NV? Or any large way to up my stats like in FO3?

From bluesnews; A story on MCV with a quote in the headline (which isn't in the article itself) stating "Valve monopoly is killing PC market," reports they understand "that at least two big-name digital retailers are facing financial difficulties as they struggle to compete" with Steam. "I've fought hard for my customer, and never before have I had to give my customers away. Steam is killing the PC market and it is no wonder digital retailers are failing," says the director of a Steam rival. "Steam is locking down the market." In a separate report they also discuss retailer dissatisfaction with Steam's dominance of the marketplace, which insiders tell them amounts to 80% of PC downloadable games. Since this competes with online sales initiatives by retailers, they say at least two major U.K. merchants will demand that publishers remove Steam integration from their games or they will refuse to sell them. With PC game sales at retail stores in steady decline, it seems an odd moment for these stores to flex their atrophying muscle, but they quote the head of sales at a big-name digital service provider saying: "At the moment the big digital distributors need to stock games with Steam. But the power resides with bricks and mortar retailers, they can refuse to stock these titles. Publishers are hesitant, but retail must put pressure on them." --- IMO I do dislike the steam requirement. I dislike myself some games locking themselves into steam and forcing you to register/have a account. A game shouldn't force you to a subscription to a service. And before the harl haters jump on me for every little thing I say I also will preface this comment with I dislike the MS LIVE client requirement in games like GTA 4 (Which they just removed in a recent patch). My dislike isn't for steam specifically, but any service requirement to play a game. Should it be a option to link the game with my stream or other service account? Sure. But forced to make said account? No.

Still waiting for the big PC patch so I can buy/play this... hurry up obs!

*shrug* If wanting games that engage me and keep me interested is elitist, then so be it. I'm an ultra uber elitist gamer. Like I said, I accept the way it is, but I find the ongoing developer/publisher denial of "we're not dumbing down, we're streallining" uterlly laughable.. Every time I see it, I think of the scene in Full Metal Jacket where Joker's CO at Stars and Stripes instructing all his reporters to subsitute the phrase "sweep and clear" for "search and destroy". lol. Like that changes anything. You sir are my new personal hero. Well said!

After going back to Civ4 with the 2 XP's I think you are missing out. The more I play civ4 and more I see civ5 short comings and lack of ability to hold my attention for the same lenght of time. I would also suggest you give civ4 a try as well. You will see civ5 simply is dumbed down and lacks the depth and challenge of 4. Yeah I've read that Civ V has been simplified in a few ways. But since I've never played a game like the Civ series before (IIRC); I'll take the simplified version to get a feel for the overall type of game it is. Then I'll switch over to the hardcore

Ah hah, proof it was dumbed down! I was thinking the same thing! LOL

Where did I or anyone else argue in favor of giant stacks of doom? Really makes me wonder if some folks here actually read what they reply to or just make up something up in their head and reply to that.

My issue with OUPT is they want from one extreme to the other. I think a happy middle ground would have been best. Such as no more then 3 units per tile. That would have kept a good balance between tactics, realism and game play mechanics. I agree with religion. Needed to be tweaked but canned totally? Again IMO going from one far end to another while totally missing the middle ground with that mechanic.
-
You can certainly interpret 5 as you wish however IMO the loss of the following is significant enough to justify that claim; - Transports eliminated - Religion eliminated - Cities auto defend - OUPT - Very non-aggressive AI vs civ4 - Trade and related tiles removed - Combat simplified Just those things off the top of my head. To me they removed or scaled back a lot of the complexity, tactics, challenge of civ4.

Then he should have been more clear and not sounded as such. *shrugs* I know... double standard.. he gets a a free pass but lets jump on me because I don't walk on glass. Thankfully I don't give a frogs fat arse about you or anyone here. This is just a online forum. Nothing more or less to debate games with other faceless folks across the world and the like. Don't know any of you thus unlike you have no real illogical attachment. Take that as you will.

The Iraq war was a disgrace, but sometimes we forget just how much
TheHarlequin replied to Humodour's topic in Way Off-Topic
I suppose you forgot the little fact he was mainly a 'bad man' because he was going to blow up the world with all his WMD.. where are they? Thats right we forced the intel to show what we wanted so we could justify a invasion. And who made out like a bandit..? all the big corps who got undisputed fat contracts that just happened to be donors and associates of those in the white house. Please.. there were ZERO altruism to these motivations and the cover of his atrocities was simply smoke and mirrors. If you believe it wasn't you are beyond naive. If powell went to the UN and used the argument 'hes a bad guy thats why we want to invade' he would have been laughed out of the building. We went there for WMD's and thats what the main argument was built on. Him being simply a nasty dictator became the reason after no WMD we verified to exist as they wanted to cover their arse as their main argument turned out to be bunk. Which they seemed to know from the start anyways. -

He just told me no one else was watching their coverage of my holiday one can assume said out of hate or/and ignorance. Yes I will be defensive to such thank you very much.
-
Wow I stand up to a at least someone close minded at worst a bigot and I am the bad guy. Nice. Troll <> someone you disagree with. FYI. In no way was I saying something to cause a flame, I was however standing up to a rude/ignorant comment.

From blues today, seems the MMO has been delayed as they are being vague date wise now; --- One of Ray Muzyka's answers about The Old Republic's due date indicates the game's previously confirmed spring 2011 release window may be in jeopardy, as he now says of the game's release: "We're just saying 2011."

I LOVE this game. Play it all the time. In fact I'd say its much more addictive then the current civ game. I've been meaning to get the second expansion. How is it? Best game of its type. Hands down. Even better them MoO in fact IMO. Get XP2 you wont be disappointed!

Apparently they make online browser games that look a bit like those popular Facebook games like Farmville and Mafia. Seems like he might have a bit of a reason to be biased here. I do see the subscription model changing in the near future, but I think it will always be a part of most AAA MMO's. For example, LotRO still has a very good amount of monthly subscribers, despite implementing a free to play and micro-transaction model. Also means that their opinion has less weight than that of the homeless guy who sits outside the local gamestop. a. Just because he does not make AAA games does not mean his view point is automatically invalid. b. He still works in the industry, more so then you or I. Thus his opinion still carries more weight until either of us do. I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that you knew what I do or don't do for a living. If you make AAA games as a dev then certainly point b. does not apply to you, however point a. still does. *shrugs*

Comment by a user on bluesnews about the quote. Keep in mind he may just be making this up but then again.. -- I was in the beta. Its pretty meh. Its very much like Star Trek online. I will state though that my beta session only lasted 3 days and there were only 2 classes and you could only play to level 10. The best part of the game that is different from any MMO I've played so far is the dialog wheel, so depending on your dialog choices, the quests can change. I'm not sure if that's enough though to set the game apart from the other 100 MMO's out there. Also we haven't seen any of the flying part of the game, but from what I've read, its on rails, so...yeah...whatever... I wonder if I just violated my NDA lol...

The Iraq war was a disgrace, but sometimes we forget just how much
TheHarlequin replied to Humodour's topic in Way Off-Topic
I guess this brings forth the question: do you think that going into Iraq was a mistake? and that our efforts for democracy are wrong? Yes and Yes. Was sadam a bad man? Yes. But wasn't our problem or justification to remove him just on that. He was little real threat. Unless we are going to invade and remove EVERY dictator simply because they are 'bad' people. Then we better get the war machine cranked up because we will have to invade about 50% of Africa never mind asia dictators that also treat there people poorly.
