  1. That's right, the US was founded on the principle of opposition to all forms of fascism, before fascism was even defined. Edit: James Madison He just destroys all utopias right there.
  2. I really don't think the US would have. The whole not negotiating with terrorists thing is taken pretty seriously by the US government. Not that I think it is always the best policy, but in this case it would have been appropriate. LOL. You gave the Russians all of our nuclear weapons ORBATs to boost your start treaty. You gave safe haven to IRA terrorists for years, stood by whilst a section of your community funded and armed them, then your judiciary put obstacles in the way of their extradition when they sought sanctuary there. Puh-leez. That's a mighty high horse you got yourself there. You may have a point there. Do you have evidence of the US government sheltering the IRA though? Also, the judiciary is independent, so again, is there evidence of political influence?
  3. Obsidian already got paid for making NV regardless of how well the game does. Then depending on performance, they'd get some kind of bonus share of the profits as well. It's usually much less than the publisher's share, but then the publisher took all the financial risk.
  4. If he considers it important enough to cause a crisis, I'd say yes. Why would he expect the indictments if there's nothing to it, and why is he taking the tribunal so seriously? But I suppose technically you're right, we'll have to wait for actual indictments to be certain. As far as Harriri withdrawing his accusations against Syria, it's not clear that he wasn't under duress. Edit: If the UN report said that Syria was involved, that's a lot more credible than Harriri denying it, for one thing where's his evidence that Syria wasn't involved? He was forced into alliance with Syria because of Hezbollah, so that had to be a condition of their alliance, plus he's betting that so long as the tribunal is operating, the facts will eventually have to come out. Edit2: Syria is far from being off the hook as you portray: http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Middle-East...rst-indictments
  5. If that's the primary purpose of the game, it's a pretty sorry game to start with, and making it even more puerile doesn't help.
  6. From the ESRB description it's only suggested by the scene, nothing is actually depicted.
  7. NV made the 2010 top ten sales list for the 360 in the US: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/32873/E...er_Platform.php The best news though is that it curb stomped ME2. Edit: Unfortunately there are no actual numbers, that would be interesting.
  8. I have to say that game is starting to sound really good.
  9. You guys realize that Google can translate any web page, don't you?

  12. I understand the situation pretty well, for an outsider. Hezbollah does not have all the guns. Everyone has guns, from the itty bitties on up. They may not still have formalised militia but they certainly can reconstitute them quick and they'll get their stored hardware and the central military's hardware (which H will get none of as they have their stand alone militia) if anything kicks off. Everyone knows it and that is largely why things don't restart. Also, Jumblatt was one of the more strongly pro-Syrian leaders in the Civil War. A year or so ago 'everyone' "knew" Syria killed Hariri. And Lebanon is deeply, deeply hostile to Israel. They may not be willing to fight a war they know they'll lose (border clashes on the other hand- and with that nice pro western government in place) but it doesn't come from Hezbollah alone, it comes from a history of extremely unpleasant Israeli actions that have systematically managed to ... annoy just about every group in a staggeringly complex ethno-religious mix. Even their erstwhile allies on the loony maronite fringe hate them for betraying the SLA. Almost all your facts are either misstated or distorted. To give just one example, Nasrallah himself said he expects members of Hezbollah to be indicted by the UN tribunal, which is why he engineered the fall of Harriri's government for refusing to denounce the tribunal. So unless you agree that the tribunal is a US/Zionist conspiracy as he claims, you can't deny that Hezbollah was involved.
  13. You do "turn pages" on a Kindle, it tries to emulate a book as much as possible.
  14. I thought it was OK for a change of pace, and the stuff after it got better. I especially liked the Flood vs Covenant vs MC stuff.

  16. Yes, they are going to change the art assets and also make it higher res obviously. It's perfectly reasonable because it looks terrible compared to modern games, and visual appeal is important for a shooter. Definitely seems worthwhile to me since I'd still rather play that game than any of the sequels, although the last two were also pretty good.
  17. Hezbollah didn't take over Lebanon, its ethno-religious based constitution (which enshrines over representatioon of Christians and under representation of both major Muslim sects) makes it impossible for them to do so short of military coup which would restart the civil war. They simply got enough people to agree with them- primarily, iirc, General Aoun's Christians- to get 'their' US educated, Sunni, candidate into the Prime Ministership exactly (well, 'exactly') as would happen in any other democracy. Israel would be right to 'worry' about Lebanon getting AT missiles anyway, and not just because of Hezbollah destroying tanks live on TV in 2006. If there's one thing nearly everyone in Lebanon can agree on, from their former buddies in the Phalange to itty bitty players like the Druze and Alawites it's that no-one likes Israel. You totally misunderstand the situation. Hezbollah gets to say who's appointed prime minister, because they have all the guns. Aoun has been their and Syria's ally for a long time. It was actually the bitty Druze players who swung the parliament to Hezbollah because their leader, Jumblatt, doesn't want a bullet in his head. Jumblatt used to be very anti-Syrian, but people in that part of the world tend to be very sensitive to which way the wind is blowing. Their popular prime minister, Harriri, got assassinated by Hezbollah just like in any other democracy. It's because Hezbollah wants to disrupt the UN investigation of his assassination that they made his son's government fall. Also Lebanon isn't as hostile to Israel as you portray. That's all driven by Hezbollah, a creature of Iran, Lebanon wouldn't dream of fighting Israel if it wasn't for them.
  18. @Calax That's the worst you can do? You didn't even understand the article. All he's saying is that Israel is concerned about the sale. Quite justifiably too, since Hezbollah just took over Lebanon. No where is there indication of any anti-Muslim feeling on his part, which I thought is what you were trying to prove.
  19. Halo 1 being remade for November. Great news, I love that game.
  20. He's not attacking Islam or anything related to Islam, he's attacking people who happen to be Muslims, not because they're Muslims, but because of what they say and do. Since his specialization is Jihadist terrorists, it would be kind of hard to ignore anyone who happens to be a Muslim. Edit: Give me a specific quote that you find objectionable.
  21. No, I just won't accept any views of somebody who is pointedly anti-islam. None of the people I mentioned are anti-Islam so far as I know. They're all anti fundamentalist islamists, with good reason. Of course to a leftist there's no distinction, so forget it.
  22. You don't have to trust him, translate the Arabic using Google translate (it does handle it) and see for youself, if you find it was wrong we can discuss that. I could cite other terrorism experts, like Stephen Emerson and Andrew C McCarthy, but of course you won't accept the views of anyone who's not on the left, so we're at an impasse there. Edit: Just watched your so-called expert, he claims MB reformed itself in the 60's, when in fact they assassinated Sadat in 1981 and Zawahiri didn't break with them until much later.
  23. So you're such an expert that you know that those connections aren't there? If you don't trust his translation, run it through Google translate, I assume it can handle Arabic. As far as not checking him out, I'm familiar with his work, I know he doesn't have the credibility of having been on the Colbert report, but we'll just have to live with that.
  24. So because he's Israeli, his view is skewed? May be it's your view that's skewed. In any case, unless you're disputing that he posted a factual document, you have no argument. Edit: I don't see the reference to Rubin on the page you linked. Lots of good info about Egypt on that site btw.
  25. Do you expect me to link to an Iranian government website exposing Islamism? And I'm not aware of that site being Israeli, but if you researched it, may be so. Anyway, he gives the text in Arabic and an English translation, so keep your ad hominem arguments to yourself.
