  1. You're not supposed to run right into a wasp's nest. They don't seem to have much DT, so you can machine gun them pretty easily so long as you don't draw too many at once. Helps to give your companion a machine gun also.
  2. Obsidian's art direction is quite good because everything looks like what it's supposed to be, as opposed to Bioware for example, where everything looks like either a parking garage or a shopping mall, even when it's supposed to be the cradle of a mysterious and ancient alien civilization.
  3. No, there were a lot fewer posts, and a lot more regulars. Last time I was there I hardly recognized anybody, and threads move at the speed of light, as Morgoth said.
  4. Sigh, Bioware forums were a nice place before Mass Effect came out. Even then DAO forums were OK until they moved to the social disease.
  5. Meh, Boone and the dog killed the Legendary Cazadore before I had the chance to fire a shot.
  6. http://www.lrb.co.uk/v33/n03/peter-pomerantsev/diary I found this interesting. Also explains US foreign policy:
  7. Finished Enslaved, great game, weirdly the ending shared some elements with New Vegas.
  8. Actually it was linked in the last article MC linked to.
  9. Bloody hell, can RPGs stop moving towards "every battle is a new world" design? This isn't just DA2 obviously, but imagine rebuffing everyone every time in the DAO Deep Roads. Buffs could be included in your tactics before, so if that's still the case, not a big deal.
  10. But they're just continuing in the same style, I don't think it's much improved or anything.
  11. Kreia, HK-47. TBH, I can't find an example of bad writing. Shouldn't the credit for HK-47 be given to Bio, Obs is just continuing the same shtick? Kreia was indeed a stand out character in K2, but the only one on par with characters in K1, plus she's a crazy old bitch with an incomprehensible philosophy and constant whining, how anyone can believe the PC wouldn't strangle her in the first 10 minutes is beyond me. Gromnir is right, Visas was the worst, by far.
  12. Speaking of Joe Kennedy: http://www.historynet.com/the-kennedy-curs...ne+Publisher%29
  13. What would be an example of great writing in K2?
  14. Well, since we're bankrupt, may be he can teach us how to scam our creditors.
  15. OK, he's finally stepped down. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110211/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_egypt
  16. The Woman in Black. Creeped the hell out of me, I wouldn't watch it again.
  17. I have Silent Hunter 4, I tried the campaign but it was boring (probably my fault, not the game's), the individual missions seem quite exciting though, I only did one so far but quite enjoyed it.
  18. I'm not ignoring failings, I don't see the failings. Star Forge being a space toaster isn't a problem, it wasn't supposed to be a sentient evil being. Really I don't see anything silly about it, in a modern war destroying the enemy's means of production is a priority. In ME the entire premise of Reapers unable to get back home like ET was ridiculous from the start. That's not a minor plot hole Oblarg, that's the foundation of the plot.
  19. I'm not talking about whether it's a cliche or not. Also I edited the post you quoted to answer your previous post.
  20. So? ME is an infinitely inferior attempt to copy KOTOR in a lot of ways, that doesn't speak well for ME. I'm not talking about flaura and fauna, I'm talking about the society of each planet and their distinguishing characteristics, that was the interesting part. As far as star forge being stupid, that's a matter of opinion, I was quite interested in finding out what that thing was. It was certainly a lot less stupid than a giant evil space toaster. It worked pretty well according to the game, but their system was completely idiotic. Considering how hard it was to defeat just one Reaper, all they had to do was come in and blast away all the navies and then do whatever they wanted. Also, how come the Protheans that survived on the Citadel didn't leave some kind of pictogram to warn everyone else? Don't even get me started on Saren. There are literally dozens of obvious plot holes in that game.
  21. Well, they did publish the full cable, so unless they faked it, it's pretty good evidence. I don't know if the Wikileaks site has put up that particular cable yet. It does occur to me that this may not be that big of a deal. If all US provides is a unique identifier for each missile, that wouldn't enable the Russians to track it or anything like that. US does have to account for all the missiles it sells to allies, else limiting their numbers wouldn't be very meaningful.
  22. okie dokie... but am recalling that you liked kotor, no? a hero and his companions must band together and overcome obstacles small and large as they fights to save the village/nation/world/galaxy/universe from the predations o' an Evil force. gots different window dressing, but basic scenario o' me and kotor is very similar. in fact, the greatest strength o' the kotor story is that it is unapologetic 'bout the manner in which it parallels the major plot points o' the original star wars trilogy... another save-the-galaxy-from-evil story. Just because two plots can be reduced to the same summary, doesn't mean they're equivalent. The KOTOR plot was serviceable, you had an immensly powerful evil dictator modeled on real-life evil dictators who our plucky crew of heroic misfits had to take down. The real genius of KOTOR was what they did with that plot premise and with Star Wars universe. They created a mysterious goal to work towards (the Star Forge) and with that as motivation sent you to various planets to solve the problems there. The difference from ME is that each planet was unique, had its own character, and had a problem directly related to its character and theme. Which answers your other question of how to explore lore through gameplay without resorting to heavy exposition. They were a bunch of bumbling fools to start with, Simon bar Sinister could come up with a better plot to take over the galaxy than them.
  23. The plot is unsalvageable because it was crap to start with.
  24. Successfully? You mean like bankrupting them twice? Though apparently he did do a bang up job with the NY ice skating rink. May be he should run for mayor of New York first, can't be any worse than Blumberg.
  25. Apparently Mubarak is resigning tonight, and the army is taking over.
