  1. I believe in restricting the access to nuclear weaponry, but I also believe in that there is no reason to restrict access to nuclear energy, as long as it is internationally supervised and kept to safe standards.
  2. Russia about to supply Iran with modern AA This further underlines Obama's effort to normalize relations with Iran must succeed, as the situation is turning from isolating Iran into a tug-of-war for Iran, which is the region's third largest country, economically speaking (after Turkey and Saudi Arabia). When you think about how easily North Korea and Pakistan (if you take their humble means into consideration) obtained nuclear weapons you realize how counterproductive the US strategy of isolation is at this point. Iran is already operating one light water nuclear power plant commercially, with one more under construction. They have one heavy water reactor possibly in operation which can produce enough weapons-grade plutonium for 1-2 nukes per year (although this would require facilities for separating plutonium from the spent fuel, which does not exist to our knowledge), with 3 more under construction. Under a deal, you could have the heavy water reactors and enrichment facilities under surveillance so that you would know if/when Iran is making plutonium for nukes, or obtaining HEU in the case of the enrichment facilities. Some US politicians have insisted that Iran abandons the nuclear programme entirely, which at this point is frankly bizarre - even more than before, that is. The US has failed to secure a deal before Iran actually can produce what they need for a nuclear bomb, and so now we're in a limbo where we don't know anything about what is going on. Pretty much any deal is better than this. Considering that it's not within the realm of the possible that Iran attacks the US militarily, it's very odd that the US pushes Iran right into the arms of the Russians, who are desperate for friends/customers at this point. It seems there is nothing to win by further sanctions.

  4. Not really, the brain damage is not caused by the you being unconscious part but by blocking blood/oxygen. I think what you meant to say was that you get brain damage if blood/oxygen is blocked more than 10 seconds.
  5. Actually, you can cause unconsciousness by blocking the blood flow for only a few seconds. Although the person in question might remain unconscious only for a minute.
  6. Yeah, Swedish mentality of transparency and accountability, and all that... Seriously, if there's one thing you can say about Paradox it's that they pathologically release buggy games, which they continue to release patches to after a really long time. In the interview he give the example of EU2, which was still patched after 7 years.
  7. I actually like the color composition of the box art. But considering all the IE games except Torment had "skeuomorphic" box art, the Codex Infiniticus is pretty clear on what type of box art P:E should have, like the CE.
  8. But it's not like it's ever been any different. It's you who has grown up and become wiser and more critical - if you believe it used to be different it's probably because you remember accepting things without a thought as a youngster.
  9. So explicit sex. Okay. "Witcher level adult", as in "teenage boy wanking to video game characters".
  10. A few corrections: No sanctions were imposed upon Germany. Actually the Soviet Union suggested this, but no other country was interested. Japan did declare war after sanctions, but there is a discussion to be had about cause, effect and intent here. The Americans sanctioned Japan because they thought Japan's actions in Asia were unacceptable. Japan's imperial ventures were very reliant on the trade in steel from the US however, so since the Japanese refused to change their course, war with the US became the only other option. This is a war the Japanese were doomed to lose from the very start. Of course the US knew both that Japan would either cease their expansion in Asia or declare war, and that the Japanese would lose if they chose war. So if Japan's current behavior was unacceptable, sanctions would at least give Japan an excuse to retreat before a war, which would be inevitable if the US did not choose sanctions. The only other US option would be to attack Japan first, which they probably could not do because of US public opinion. Uh, do you mean the Ukrainians? 2 years ago, they were considered "the same people as us" by Russians. Now they have all apparently turned into super-evil genocidal Nazis. Putin has lost the only other important country which might join the Eurasian Union. This for a few scraps of land he's now paying to support. It's short-sighted, dumb and predictable imperialism at it's worst. Putin's strategy of destabilizing Ukraine indefinitely in the East is going to bite him in the ass when he alienates the Ukrainians further. You could try to make the point that this schism between Russia and Ukraine was inevitable due to backlash from Soviet imperialism, but I think not.
  11. Really, people need to be qualified to give a first impression? Obviously. It's like if you would write a car review, saying that "it's big and red, I like the round rubber thingies at the bottom, but it doesn't appear to do much. It was only after several hours that I discovered by chance that you can insert the key by the side of the steering wheel, whereupon the car makes a humming noise. 2/10".
  12. I would be very interested in discussing this, but to be honest, the debate has become completely idiotic lately. Lots of quoting a few "feminists", lots of male entitlement and confirmation bias. I don't care what you call feminism (if you want to call it "egalitarianism" or something) - frankly both sides should give each other the benefit of doubt there. English people typically say "decade" and not "decennium", but I'm not about to start a war over that. Likewise, you should allow people to call themselves "feminists", "egalitarianists", or whatever. It doesn't matter, it's just semantics. There are a lot of people who get very angry over the quips of some deranged self-professed feminists. Maybe you should ask yourselves why you care so much. There are a lot of people saying questionable stuff which frankly matters a lot more, but inexplicably a "feminist" can make a blog post about "all heterosexual intercourse is rape" and then half the world's entitled males start hacking away threats on their little keyboards (further proving the need for feminism...). This entire question of "crazy feminists" has been hugely overblown. Just ignore them and save yourselves time and the risk of making yourself look stupid. The feminism debate is one of the few things which really makes me lose faith in humanity. When the world is on the brink of ruin, people will not be discussing the global economy, climate change or international relations. People will be discussing what some feminist blogger said, Phil Fish quitting the game industry for the nth time, and Kim Kardashian's personal life. Radical feminism is one of those non-questions which yet manages to generate huge amounts of interest.
  13. Come on seriously? Just get a dictionary and search for the word and the definition of it. Sorry its not "liking" its "longing or yerning" which is actually alot stronger. Also thanks for the insult. Its kinda interesting, how aggressive, defensive and personal people get here about that topic even if my post were neutral and only talked about the topic in general and its a opinion and you cant force it on everyone. But this has nothing to do with nostalgia. I'm longing for prerendered backgrounds and solid UIs because I like them. I like how they look. The solid UI is a great addition for the visuals, and prerendered backgrounds is a cheap, hardware efficient way of doing great looking enviroments. Unfortunately somewhere around the late 2000s, some people just said that "ok, That's it, gamers don't want these anymore, lets start making expensive 3D enviroments". 3D has its place, almost all genre benefitted from it. You cannot have FPS or racing games without good 3D. But prerendered games should have a place in strategy and roleplaying games. Ugh what is your problem with the word nostalgic?!?!?! Solid UI's is a part of the past. Can we agree on that? I assume yes. It is part of the past. They usually dont make games with such UI's anymore. Like they dont make cars like they did in the 50ties or no one wears a top hat anymore. Its nostalgic. What is everyones problem with that single word. It perfectly defines it. It has nothing to do with why you like it its just says "its from the past and I like it". Gosh seriously I guess the problem here is that some people have a problem with beeing called nostalgic, whatever. Well, in many cases people used it as a negative adjective. Now I know that you used it as a natural, at least that's why you say, but I assume to many people nostalgic reads like "you only like it because it is like in the old games". And all in all, the problem is not with the word nostalgic. It's about dismissin solid UIs, and prerendered backgrounds because of innovation. Don't feed the troll man...
  14. I think this is missing the point. Sanctions (where the banking sanction are pretty much the only interesting ones) is a security mechanism. Some might think of it (including the people behind the sanctions...) as an attempt at regime change, but that is pretty moronic. It was never going to work. Less money in the Russian budget means less money to be spent on weapons, though. The recent high in oil prices has led to hubris in the Russian leadership. We have seen how military brinksmanship can escalate before in Europe, and this is an attempt to de-escalate things with economic measures before things get out of hand. This is just a way for the US/EU to say "look, we disagree with this, and we're actually willing to sacrifice trade to prove it". It's easy to huff and puff and state your disagreement but unless you actually do something which in part hurts yourself, nobody is going to believe you. Compare with Hitler's invasion of Poland - he was actually surprised when the UK declared war on him! Same when the US entered the war in Europe.
  15. Me and my girlfriend are going to do what is pretty much our tradition at Valentine's day. Go to a nice pub (she's a beer nerd), get hammered, and then go strolling around in a household/electrical appliances store and buy random stuff.
  16. You know. The most important thing for me is really the large-size portraits on the right like in IWD, BG and BG2.
  17. Okay. Then we need to mod it in. Or else all of these mockups would have been in vain
  18. Yeah, nothing which better says "HELLO I AM NOT QUALIFIED TO OPEN MY MOUTH ABOUT THIS GAME".
  19. Frankly I feel this has reached the point where the most important objective at the moment is getting someone from OE to look that this seriously or get someone to sign up to mod this ASAP. Call it a luxury problem, but seeing this awesome mock-up UI and then playing with the default "minimalistic" UI is going to bother me slightly.
  20. I thinks that's a pretty bold assessment on an early one minute teaser video... That's one minute teaser video and information on their website. If you can't see that this looks like an awful game then maybe you have bad taste in games? In that case, just go ahead and pre-order it Here's another bold idea: how about you stay out of a thread that is a discussion about a game you obviously already hate? Done and done.

  22. Looks really awful. Seems like they are trying to milk money off people who like RTwP.
  23. Well until July, anyway. 5 months of 'regression', I guess. You wouldn't shut off your modern early warning systems for five months if you seriously thought somebody would attack you, that was my point.
  24. http://uk.businessinsider.com/russia-ballistic-missile-defence-system-tundra-delayed-2015-2?r=US http://www.themoscowtimes.com/business/article/russian-nuclear-missile-detection-capability-limited-by-satellite-launch-delays/515748.html Okay, so as of now Russia does no longer have any satellite early warning system, effectively regressing to a 1960s/1970s level of nuclear preparedness. Might be interesting for anyone who thinks there's a new Cold War going on.
  25. What about delaying everything and giving all people who have bought the game their choice of digital key at release? Sounds good to me. Also: Awesome book excerpts!
