As spider said, branding all EA **** with bioware name is good idea, because Bio is still very strong brand and to be honest, name Bio Austin brings less bad will that would bring EA Austin amongst gamers. So this is just logical... If they sold 2mil + of each game it is Income of 120mil for a single game... ME2, ME3, DAO, DA2 and SWTOR = 600 mil income, but you have to add costs for development, distribution, server maintenance, and not all of these 2mil copies were sold at 60 bucks... and of course the bonuses for all the high management members... Soooo in the end I really can not see more than 200 mils back in pure profit and I am highly optimistic with this wild guess (and I tried to account all the DLCs and projects 10bucks ripoff to add to this number)... In 5 years... So they will be ****ing happy if they get even with the buyout in less than another 10 maybe 15 years... If this is not a prime example of terrible investment by a publicly traded company, which is trying to maximize short-term profits, I do not know what else is... Edit: And if the development cost of SWTOR was really 150mil+ as rumours say, then the number made in 5 years would me more allong the line of 100millions... How the hell it is still possible that CEO did not step down yet...

Anyway, they were bought in October 2007, as we have soon October 2012, so presumably they 5-years contract surely expired...

Yeah yeah, business in EA as usual, if you can not beat it, buy it and destroy it... I am sad that once so awesome developer got consumed again (I got every single game from Bio before the merger, after if I stopped buying their games), but they had a lot of bad examples in before, so serves them right... But what do they care, it is easy to brew beer with their millions, to bad their employees are not so fortunate... Next please...

This is exactly how I wanted to say it, but no need to repeat, when just the quote is enough... Like in our world, lot of bad things happen, but you almost never see them, you just hear or read about it, be it from rumors, TV or newspaper. Let the player imagination do some work! But do not forget to show us some happiness as well, drama and tragedy is much more deeper, after you allow us to enjoy some happy moments and then hit us hard with some trauma... This is one video I agree most about how happiness and sadness should be presented in any game, and how they should not be... http://www.escapistm...ough-The-Laughs

An interesting way how to use P2P as your promotion and not whine about it. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/09/how-one-game-developer-is-making-the-pirate-bay-work-for-him/

So after reading Update #3 and the emphasis on the different type of sub-races, ethnics and nationalities, I would like to ask what would you think about this option at character creation? Would the added cost to the development be beneficial to the final product, or it is not worth the additional resources?

Random effect items are nice to have, the reloading cannot be prevented, people who wants max benefit will just reload for 5 hours just to get something mega-awesome... Every gamer would play out his game as he would like, lot of without even thinking about reloading after bad effect from the item. My sister for example liked to play BG2 with WIld Mage, the random effects added fun to her gameplay...

This is silly
Mamoulian War replied to gongal's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No kitties and ponies. Here is where all your arguments have became invalid... Proper RPG must have kitties included, or it fails miserably... That and tea-pots of course... -

Back to topic: This is one of many reasons, why DRM does not work and punish only people which are willing to pay for the game and support developers and industry...
-
Off topic: They announced it as a spiritual successor to IE games, not ToEE... So RTwP is the only logical conclusion. Trying to find any other reason behind it, is just a plain conspiracy.

I'm glad you mentioned that, because DRM was a term that didn't exist back when we got our games on CD or floppy disk, but copy protection have existed even since the floppy days. So I'm curious as to what people meant by DRM, is it the online DRM, or does it include traditional copy protection. IMO, its not reasonable to expect Obsidian to forfeit all copy protection. Otherwise I will bet you there will be people who buy the game and share the installer with their friends and divide the cost. Some people are that cheap. Obsidian do have the right to protect their work at least with CD keys or something. It doesn't have to be online DRM, but at least to deter people from easily sharing the game. For me DRM is the stuff which steals away your rights to use your original game without middle-man (aka limited activations, one time online activation). I never had a problems with disc checks and CD keys. You can install uninstall how many times you like it. I have stored all my games on a single place, for me it is the question of 30 seconds to grab even 15 years old game, install it and play the game right away. With the online activation even if I grab the disc, there is lot of possibilities, that you will not be able to play the game right away. As a working person I have limited free time to play my games, and the last thing I want to do, is to wait when someone on the customer support kindly decides to pick up my phone after using up my install and allowing me to play that damn thing... Anything which requires contact with third person party after install is a no go for me. I never purchased anything which required any form of third party autenthification, not on PC not on PS3 not on my Android phone, and I will continue with this, because there are so many quality games released every year, especially now with the indie and kickstarter boom, you can freely skip any game and still have tons on fun.

My preferences are RPGs, but from time to time, I will give a chance to a different kind of game. So anything you think is good is welcomed by me

Anyway, I am little bit late to the circus, not pledged for any game yet... So please let me know what Kickstarter games are worth to follow the development and buy right after release? Thank you.
