  1. NEWSFLASH: There will always be people who feel they are entitled to anything... It is in human nature, which you can not suppress by force, that's why muppets like Robin Hood are considered heroes among people... So try to offer them something more convenient... If half the money which RIAA, MPAA and ESA spent for lobbying in US congress to promote bull**** like SOPA, ACTA, PROTECTIP, DMCA was spent on developing new business models, which would be more convenient for people in the "West", we would have much lower rate of piracy now...
  2. Lot of you maybe already seen this... not much about PS4, more like about games we should see next generation... http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/6905-New-Generation-Old-Bullsh-t
  3. LOL http://theoatmeal.com/comics/game_of_thrones
  4. We're not talking about a sketchy .exe from a torrent site here; this is the flagship program of a multi-billion dollar corporation. I'm going to guess they're doing their best to make sure Steam is safe. Are they perfect? No, but as Ocelot said they're not exactly alone in that regard. Because there is no way, that a multi-billion dollar corporation would ever think about putting malicious code into their programs intentionally, not in billion years... Right... Ever heard of Sony Root-kit debacle? Edit: And the best interest of these companies is to make as much money as possible, and high security = high costs... Therefore we see all the time news about companies hacked and personal information stolen from their servers... Heck even Blizzard, which is the second name to money printing machine, has been compromised this way few times, because of inadequate security... And do I need to remind you about the Sony PSN outage last year? They made their best as well, right? And being not alone is not an excuse... Being not alone means, that there are many very bad companies, which do not care about exploits in their products...
  5. You are of course right, but as you said, the bigger the install base, the bigger the threat. I use mainly Linux at home and in the company where I am working, I use Windows computer with extremely strict rules in the proxy, firewalls and update mechanism. I can say easily, that my current expose to external threats are as minimized as possible and due to the nature of my job, I have to maintain it this way... I use at home Windows only for gaming, nothing else, and all of the games, except LoL, have denied communication with internet in my firewall setting, a thing, which I am unable to do with Steam client...
  6. Oh noes, and I was already on search of my RAPORT BATTN, you spoiled all of my funz :/ No worries, I can read between lines sometimes He said his cd-key got stolen and registered by someone else.Back in the day even EA would issue a new one with proof of purchase. You sir, are correct. At that time no one was caring about people in 3rd world countries like Slovakia... Now, when we are in EU, we have better possibilities how to defend our customer rights from foreign corporations. But you know the saying... Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me...
  7. Errr, the first link requires the user to actively choose to open a link that has the Steam URL (that then does something nefarious. This is akin to someone foolishly clicking on a link in an email. If you use a capable browser and don't autoload external links just by clicking on them, you sidestep the issue completely. Unfortunately the details for how the second one can be exploited are a bit light. As for "I had one game stolen from me already." Well, maybe that just "says a lot about your personality." You were stupid and got taken advantage of because you didn't know any better. People can be just as stupid and let their houses get caught on fire or their doors wide open for people to come walking in and take their stuff. The funny thing is, in that other thread it was someone else's problem, and their own damn fault that stuff fell into disrepair. However, here, instead of going "whoops, I was stupid... but it was my fault" (you don't seem to be to willing to allow other people to make mistakes in their life because they are "young and stupid."), it's big bad Steam's. No responsibility for making sure you don't do stupid things. It's Steam's fault that you were stupid. The point of the post was about unhelpful customer support. I have stated in my post that it was only my fault, that I got lost the CD-Key because of keylogger, not Steams... Skewing around the meaning of the sentence says a lot about your personality. If customer support of Valve is not willing to help you out with your issue, it is their fault, not yours. Being dependent on someone else good will, to be able to play your favourite game is stupid idea...
  8. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX comming to Europe! http://eu.square-enix.com/en/blog/kingdom-hearts-15-hd-remix-coming-europe
  9. I know it is not forced, therefore I avoid it, and everybody knows Steam is very popular in the World, but the thing is, if they are having this trivial exploit in their product, and do not care about about addressing it, why should I believe, that such software developer have no other undiscovered flaws, maybe even bigger, within their system?
  10. And every time you leave the house you can get hit by a car; **** happens. But if you're that paranoid then I guess just don't use Steam, or any program for that matter. Or computers in general. How is it Valve's fault that devs are too lazy to make alternate versions? That's like saying it's Microsoft's fault when a game only gets released on Xbox. You might get hit by a car when you walk around, but I do you willingly go and run across the road when there is fast car approaching to your position? This is the same situation as willingly allowing a software to compromise your security... Because last time I heard, PC was rumored to be an "open" platform... And yes, Microsoft is at fault for releasing few games as Xbox only...
  11. So what you're saying you don't care about a lack of choice as long as the option you're happy with exists. Sounds familiar. Yea dude, Valve is totally going to steal all your financial information. I can see how that's a valid concern; there are probably thousands of hackers in China waiting with bated breath to get their hands on your video games. Additionally (to everyone who's hating on Steam), Steam is optional; no one is forcing you to use it. Just buy non-Steam copies of games. Every program running in the background is a potentional risk to the safety of your PC. Here are some examples of Steam exploits which can lead to hijacking your PC... http://arstechnica.com/security/2012/10/steam-vulnerability-can-lead-to-remote-insertion-of-malicious-code/ http://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/17459/ And as I said, I got already one game stolen from me... Ok show me then, non-Steam version of New Vegas so I can finally play it on my PC...
  12. He always insist on playing Rogue "jack of all trades" with high INT, but his talk is neither himself, neither his character... It is hard to explain, but it sometimes breaks the immersion :/ And we have one funny story with a guy who after got drunk at one session as well. The session after that, he decided to reroll his character Orc Barbarian with WIS, INT and CHA at 5, he can't read and is almost always drunken. He always brings 20 jugs of beer with himself on an adventure :D He just plays him the same way, when he was drunk last time, even if he did not drank last few sessions any alcohol :D Others just have to hold him at short leash, so he does not anger some NPCs and that already made few nice roleplays :D
  13. I know what is cloud gaming... I meant the verification of the originality of your dics directly on your PS4 and then (because there will be no HW backwards compability) then run your game over the network... Yes there will be lag, but still better than not able to play your favourite game at all, if you lack powerful enough PC for emulation or functioning old consoles... Well except for games like Crash Bandicoot, where you would get destroyed with lag...
  14. Thanks Greylord for your recommendations, I still have trouble with some DM stuff, but our group is very witty and they are always surprising me with some kind of crazy ideas, which I have to improvise :D So I think when we are ready and play little bit more modifies PFS scenarios, we will move towards Rise of the Runelords. (Next on my purchase list is Curse of the Crimson Throne and Carrion Crown Adventure Paths, if we will have enough fun with our group) Unfortunately one has big troubles with roleplaying his character, he says stuff which lot of times breaks the immersion of the gameplay and I do not know how to push him in right way :/
  15. Playing Resonance of Fate again, and stumbled against a big ****block. My party is to low level, because of my playstyle, to continue the story, so I have to grind a little bit more now :/ And having fun with League of Legends and PnP Pathfinder game with my friends, we are learning the game mechanics while playing at home modified PF Society scenarios. It is hard, because one person is absolutely unable to get into his characters and his "roleplay" is absolutely terrible :/ All others are pretty decent, but whenever we got into new gameplay mechanics, we just get stuck for half hour, sometimes more, if complicated rules come into play... Our group has never played PnP RPGs before...
  16. What's wrong with Steam as DRM though? This isn't exactly Starforce we're talking about here. That's like saying there's no benefit to programming languages since you can code everything in binary, or no benefit to cars since you can walk everywhere. Steam makes doing things you could do before easier. Also I thought you were all about competition so how is another program doing something a current program already does a bad thing? Why you can not accept that some people are having issues with program running in the background and having all of their games under one account, which can be hacked, and than having troubles with customer support... We do not force you to stop using Steam, if you love it, so stop us forcing to use Steam, if we do not like it... Having more options is good, having only one option, is bad... mkay? I still have not working Counter-Strike (it was retail copy which I purchased before Steam even existed, but with 1.6 they forced us all to go the Steam only route), because somebody stolen my key with keylogger and registered it with their account (I was young and stupid and did not have a clue about viruses and how to defend against them at that time)... And customer support was not willing to help me...
  17. Hell yeah, all of you have to pay for my maximum convenience!!
  18. And copy paste from another thread... Which is cool, I really don't have a problem with people liking steam, my problem is pretty much entirely with steamworks as I have a problem with the unlevel playing field, shift towards lock in and closing of an open platform, all of which are ultimately very large problems. The rest is just frustration at, well, steamtards. The sort of people who celebrate lack of choice because the only choice is one that they like. If I were appointed God For A Day I'd never in a million years do the reverse and wave my hand to make steam disappear yet many steam fans would clearly be happy to force everyone to use steam just because they like it and anyone with other preferences can go asterisk themselves, an attitude that for anything other than steam would be widely deplored. It's unimaginable that you'd get hordes of people advocating only one flavour of ice cream or milkshakes or one make of car or one television provider, yet only one flavour of PC game supplier? OH GOD ITS HEVAN, to quote the great philosopher ~aphatmc. Anyway, bored now, next steam rant in 60 days. What exactly is so bad about Steam though? You can still mod games, still play offline, hell it doesn't even limit people playing the same game on the same account at the same time (as long as one is playing offline). About Steam as a distribution model is nothing wrong, the problem is Steam as DRM, because people who do not like some "features" of Steamworks do not have possibility to play Fallout: New Vegas on PC for example...
  19. And this is the reason, why I do not like Steamworks, why in the hell you have to download 30GB from the internet, when you just bought the disc?
  20. I never had PSX, but I have tons of PSX games, and I like to have possibility to play my stuff on one box, you know, my living room is unfortunatelly not inflatable... Therefore I am playing my PSX and PS2 games mainly on my PC... My old PS2, DS, PSP, Wii, Atari 800XL, PC 386DX40, PC 486DX4-133 are still functioning without flaws...

  22. If you do not care about your old stuff, it is your problem and says a lot about your personality... I have lot of PS1 and PS2 discs which do not have single scratch on them, and I am still playing them on my PC, PS2 and PS3...
  23. In a ideal world, you would put into PS4 your original PS1, PS2 or PS3 game, and it would immediately launch from cloud... I doubt that this will ever happen...
  24. The presentation made me for a first time in a long history to hate square enix... Hashimoto: "there will be new final fantasy title for PS4, but we will announce it at E3, move along..."
  25. At least you are suggesting that they keep picking it back up Hi Melk I like Bioware and despite all this "Bioware Bashing" I guarantee you that almost every person on these forums who claims to dislike Bioware and that there games are sub-par will play Dragon Age 3 when its released. Mark my words Not me My last Bio game was Jade Empire, and I am proud about it And I am also proud that I own every single PC Bio game, expansion pack and DLC up to Jade Empire, all were excellent games, even thought hey were not all my cup of tea... After they sold out to EA, I just found another companies which provides me with high quality products. Thankfully there is enough companies which offer quality gameplay, instead of idea of broadening the audience...
