  1. They lack the whole hyena-ish-ness that gnolls have to have. Generally they're large hulking brutes with the same kind of sloping round forehead that we usually associate with orcs.
  2. DG said he has worked on it for half his career now so I'm pretty excited about the world. Even more because they're doing nice thouches like books to read in game.
  3. Are there any british people at all that are known in China? And who is also someone that you would put in front of them. Seems like they're a bit sore from something, I wonder if it was the China criticism during their olympics or if they're just annoying super nationalists. Or both.
  4. I'm totally aware that this forum consists mainly of jaded soulless husks that only slightly resemble human beings. What I'm attempting is to get people to discuss the rather interesting stuff like Bio using some interesting christian ideas to create a world that I'm personally pretty optimistic about. Or any of the other stuff that Bioware didn't give us in ME, like anything resembling something interesting. You know, instead of just whining down the boulevard of frozen hearts.
  5. I felt through the entirety of Braid that it isn't very forgiving in its puzzles, sorta like some old Adventure games. The mechanics are beyond awesome though.
  6. I'm assuming that you're not judging the DA combat since we know very little of how it actually feels and even works. And I'll ask when there have been challenging combat since Troika? Edit: Wait... you agree that Volo is reasonable in this thread? Edit2: That's challengin and interesting combat, for the record.
  7. Is it closer to Fallout or JRPGs? From what I remember of JRPGs they're quite different from the way WRPGs tend to create random encounters.
  8. Why is Volourn among the few reasonable people in this thread? Is this a sign of the end-times? There is nothing wrong with the whole DA art-direction or writing direction unless you have a general issue with general dark fantasy in which case I suggest you stop responding in this thread as incessant whining about Bioware being Bioware is pretty darn tiring, and we all know that Bioware is genreic. The interesting things about DA is that David Gaider, as far as I'm aware, hasn't been the Lead anything on anything since ever. I believe he was senior designer, whatever that means, on TOB and he did some design on KOTOR (Korriban I think but don't quote me). Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Beyond this Bioware seems to be trying to give us relatively demanding and relatively interesting combat which is something that RPGs has lacked since the death of Troika. Even further they're talking of a toolset that will be able to do stuff, we don't know specifics, but I don't think it would be too much to expect that interesting combat and possibly interesting quests, within DA, could be created by skilled users. Now I obviously agree, since I'm writing on this board and not the Bioware one, that the Blight is ever so slightly generic and it would be nice if Bio broke the mold somewhat more, but that isn't in anyway something to expect and it would be like expecting Blizzard or Valve to keep on Schedule. It doesn't happen. On the other hand I do believe that there is room for optimism that this will be both Bioware at their best (again this isn't what we want but it'll be much closer) and that they might even break the mold a bit. The entire internet (the part that matters anyway) has already decried the LOTR-ripoff trailer and the generic looking blight. Some of us though aren't yet jaded and hollow and we would like to move on and admire that Bioware is actually doing something interesting for once. Again, no real reason for praise yet but complaining is way premature. tl;dr Start chilling and be happy for once. Also, seriously, that gamers with jobs interview with DG is awesome and people who don't listen to it/reads it are inhuman.
  9. I'm pretty sure you'll see a Bioware twistTM before the end. I highly doubt that the blight will remain completely the main bad guy, they're more of a way of introducing the game that will follow you through it. Also which part of the "big picture" concerns you?
  10. DAcentral has an interesting collection of screenshots on this page (and the next couple of pages) as well as a very interesting and long interview with DGaider from gamers with jobs. Edit: For all the people who might think the blight is generic: I sure hope that I'tll be long.
  11. I reinstalled Morrowind yesterday and I'm surprised that it still draw me in the 5th or 6th playthrough. I'm currently trying an unconventional route to Balmora taking me through Hla Oad.
  12. If you believe people are presenting bad arguments that are in need of critical thinking wouldn't it be more effective to point said arguments out? Critical thinking is fine as a general rule but arguments seem correct to the arguer until someone points out why it isn't correct this someone could be themselves but is usually someone else.
  13. KOTOR2 crashes? I thought the biggest problem was that it wasn't properly finished.
  14. @Volo Are you disagreeing with me or...? My point was that gender is irrelevant as writers get experience from the world around them and that experience is what they know and then they write from what they know. It is true that many writers put parts of themselves into their characters but such part are in my experience in the minority. So what was Sawyer saying with that quote? Edit: Me = bad speller today
  15. Could you expand on this a bit? Which part? The one about prettyness leading to greater socialisation or it making them husks that only slightly resemble a human being? @samm Generalisations are only dangerouss if the person seeking advice doesn't realize that and anybody who is fully capable of critical thinking (age~=>18) will be capable of realising such and those under 18 will make a fool of themselves regardless of what we post here. Also what theslug said about girls practically never approaching guys is much too true and I've always held it as a disgrace to the entire female gender. Females are way thougher than that.
  16. This is what ugly people tell themselves to feel better. In reality, your personality is not decided by your looks. Simplifying a bit? It is true that personality isn't decided by looks, but that wasn't what Tigranes was saying. Tigranes was trying to establish a general rule that the prettyness of the girl correlates with the intelligence (or lack of ) of the girl. This isn't very far fetched if you're willing to accept that life is easier for pretty people and pretty people tend to put an overly large focus on socialising which we all know is a waste since it makes them incredibly uninteresting. I has Ph.D. in grrls! @The cute pie Lesson of your life then is that you should have given a damn about your looks... Or you could be happy that you've spent your time on worthwhile stuff.
  17. Common sense? Call me crazy but I tend to think that women would be better at writing female characters and romance and men would be better at writing men characters, but what do I know I don't read romance novels/stories so take that for what it's worth (nothing) I think I get where you're coming from but that line of thought is flawed since writers don't write characters from their experience of their self but write them from their experience of others and as such their gender is mostly irrelevant when talking quality of or romances characters. At least that is what I've gathered from listening to their blabberings. @RangerSG MarySues are more a sign of bad writers than their gender. It does raise the interesting question of whether we have a lack of quality female writers. But that's not for this thread.
  18. 1) There is no reason to think that female writers are in any way better at writing romances than male writers. 2) Bio has two very visible female writers replying on the Bio forums, Mary Kirby and Sheryl Chee. I seem to remember that there where a third at some point but she seems to have dissapeared.
  19. I didn't get more than a couple minutes into it, but it's a night mission where you get dropped off by the VTOL and are told to meet up with someone nearby. When you do, the new person gives you an order to take out a bunch of AA emplacements that are preventing any air support from coming in. I didn't get much beyond his little speech because combat is really tough when the game is a slideshow. That's a big battle if I remember Crysis correctly. Lots of helicopters, footmen and boats. Also one of the best levels, drop the graphics a notch or two and see if it helps, possibly the best level in the game.
  20. And should that person make an attempt at the first game?
  21. Just in case any of you people are media shut-ins I've found some relatively reputable sites for the news story about the underage athletes: Explains the whole thing and ends on a critical (of China and the IOC) note. [The Telegraph] Britains primary interest in getting He sentenced as a cheater for all you anglo-critical people out there.[The Telegraph] American POV and some stuff on China censoring the internet.[The Times] Some interesting explanations from the hacker that started the whole thing.[The Times] I don't know who is right in this case but it does seem that the IOC should perhaps ask for better proof of an athletes age as too many people are all too willing to cheat in order to win.
  22. That's because you live outside the civilized world. I get expensive games because of taxes and lots of 'em.
  23. DA has had a seemingly long developement time because it was announced early not because Bio is having trouble or anything.
  24. Are you sure about the whole "no time limit" thing? I'm pretty sure that I've had castle sieges last longer than 30 - 40 minutes. I just failed what I think is the last mission in GTA 4
