so charge is totally useless now?
Verde replied to Archaven's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Can you face pull full mobs? No. Send your fighter for maximum engagement. Can you move around with facepulling? No. The stun/interrupt is icing the cake. Stop complaining the minute an OP skill gets reasonably nerfed.

Verde replied to Archaven's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)It's a fighter's most reliable way of getting in the muck quick. It's def not useless.

Family feud gone bad... (possible spoilers)
Imho it's one of the most infruriating quests in the game. Starts out good but usually devolves into chaos.

what's the best outcome for 'The Storms of Poko Kohara' quest?
So the Valians are prob the most immoral faction because atleast the pirates are up front about being pirates. You are essentially a greedy evil being if you support the VTC >

Let's call a Spade a Spade, the dialogue in this game is not good...
So went back to Port Maje and everyone reacted nicely to me returning. Loved it! That's the warm fuzzy feeling I hope for when progress is made

How Long Between Patches?
Verde replied to Gary1986's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)They need to allow us to customize Grimoires and reduce the penalty for Wizard subclasses. And prob buff some Cipher spells.

Ciphers are very underwhelming
I feel like Cipher is better as a multi unless you go Ascendent. Even so, Ascendent multis well.

Story and Gameplay Segregation - Or, Can You Be a Tough Guy With Low Resolve?
Verde replied to Cyrus_Blackfeather's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)If POE1 was a 10 on the Resolve-conversation-check scale, then POE2 is a 4. There are a FEW dialogue options where Resolve really helps, but not nearly as many as POE1. Secondly, I'm finding my 8 Resolve PC is getting hit a ton more than my 20 Resolve PC. So in that case, I can't see a tank with low Resolve, but that's only my experience.

Most "Badass" Race, Ability, Passive/Active Skill, Item, Animations.
I have to say the Monk has the best animations. The sidekick Monk/Brawler girl you get from Deadlight is awesome haha.
- No point in making builds right now when consumables are more op than the whole build itself

For those who've beat it, what are your thoughts?
When you know a decent order for quests the game is outstanding. Exploring too much can mess with the intersection of quests and resolutions.

You're right. It's the continuity not the quality of the writing.

Are the Companions Really THAT Bland?
Verde replied to Cyrus_Blackfeather's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)Shallow with the inability to call them on their bs.

Killing Concelhaut first completely broke the quest for me. The journal entry said meet Alk in his study, but he was in his basement staring at his pool like an idiot, with no dialogue. I couldn't even select the pool. So I slaughtered his weak butt and got some decent goodies haha.

I totally get this could be my expectations or lack of patience, or maybe I missed some things. But otherwise I see this items pop up consistently and it's frustrating because it is an enjoyable and ultimate very playable game.

I hate to say this because I appreciate all the effort put into full VA, and all the different variables, but it doesn't seem like Obsidian played through the game. This is why: 1. Quest resolutions / decisions - really obvious dialogue choices are not present or require a weird work around. In many situations you can go into length about a subject and then get the introductory dialogue, which is required to complete a quest. 2. Who are THESE PEOPLE?! Omg if I have to look up another person I haven't met but I'm referencing in dialogue, I'm going to lose it. So I don't know Alkemyr but I can talk to Concelhaut about him. I don't know the former chief of the Tikawana tribe, but I can go into detail about him with various people. 3. Why can't I tell key people things? It seems that doing quests in a different order than intended really screws with them. Uziako for example you can learn quite a bit about in varying paths but doesn't seem like you can bring it up with key people. 4. Sure, everything at face value - so you can't challenge Eder or Xoti or Palli or really anyone much on their beliefs. Same with the Gods. Sure a few dialogue options here and there, but for a game with focus on Gods and religion it sure sidesteps most of these question. Palli - your precious company is a bunch of soul-sucking slave traders, but oh well. So anyway needed to vent after returning for a second playthrough. Maybe you feel different but it's been nagging at me.

Well I'm finding quests even more frustrating. Just did Storms of Poko Kohara and at no point could I tell the chief that the priestess killed the Valians. Um ok. Then I have Beza pages but can't show the Director or Governer. I know it's hard to code different variables but this stuff seems pretty obvious.

I just looted equipment worth 60000 gold from an unlocked crate immediately after Port Maje
Well, you are Level 7 with Beraths Blessing if you start with Level 4, after the starting island and with the easy access stealth boots from fort deadlight, it's possible. Not seeing the problem if you know how to exploit the game. Not like he just happened upon it.

You had 10 Stealth right after the prologue?

Cipher/rogue multiclass and blunderbuss (hand mortar), how does it work?
I'm a big advocate for the vanilla Rogue. Sure Streetfighter has some perks but it's gimmicky. And you're going to crushed while Flanked if you're not a multi. Assassin isn't my style but admittedly it's a well done subclass. Trickster, not seeing the benefit unless you multi but a Rogue is all about DPS imho so reducing Sneak Attack damage is a big no no. Plus his spells use Guile so it's like, are you an Illusionist or Rogue?

Hopefully POE3 will do a better job of side quest/main story pacing and integration
Yeah great ideas!

Hopefully POE3 will do a better job of side quest/main story pacing and integration
Oh yeah some of the quest triggers are just unbelievable, lazy, or bugged. Immersion killing is when you stumble upon a quest by accident but the dialogue choices make it seem like you know all key parties.

Hopefully POE3 will do a better job of side quest/main story pacing and integration
Great discussion everyone thanks. Wasnt sure how the OP would be received. After playing W3 and thinking about POE2 vs say POE1 and BG, I think the main issues are urgency and "tollgates". Like we said before, having to gather/research, etc while there is a plausible reason why you dont need to chase after the main quest at breakneck speed can do wonders. And then once it picks up, to tie in more of the sidequests (BG2 crushed it here). POE2 unfortunately had an opportunity to push the RPG genre forward but instead regressed in the main story by following the open world trend.
