  1. Did it suddenly start leaking 4chan in here? The "PSP has no games" schtick died a year ago. Give it a rest. Whether we're talking installments of major franchises like Silent Hill, Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid, the upcoming God of War, the numerous RPGs that outnumber the offerings of the PS3 and 360 combined, or even fighters such as Tekken, the claim hasn't held merit for an age. What, not enough FPS and GTA wannabes for your liking?
  2. Started Case 3 of Apollo Justice last night. However, I seem to have a problem with playing my Nintendo DS while laying down. Makes me tired. So I didn't get much playtime.
  3. So, Warlocks are core now? I totally need to become a PnP geek then.
  4. Oh, yeah, totally, only, I was refering to a specific individual who seemed to do exactly what I do. That is to say, i've only pirated games I would never have bought. This isn't subjecture based on other people, it's me. It was projection and when refering to the general populus you're right, both about the issue and the language used to express it. Oh WEeeeeeell then. Wanna make out?
  5. You're ignoring the fact that that is not actually a fact. It is speculation based on benefit of the doubt. Just because someone didn't spend money does not necessarilly mean they wouldn't have spent money for the same end if they had to. I'm not saying that everyone who pirates would have purchased if they didn't pirate, just that claiming it is "fact" that they "probably wouldn't have" is a nearly unsupportable statement. What we can presume is that people who play games have a chance of spending money on games. Now, it is reasonable to assume someone who pirates games may pirate more games than he would have paid for had they not adopted piracy, but it is unreasonable to assume they simply wouldn't have purchased any games at all. The same pressures that encouraged the obtaining of games via piracy still exist even if the individual were to choose to pay for the vidya. This is indeed different from pov of the law. In common law theft requires deprivation of the rightful owner of his or her rights to possess, use, or destroy property. Edit: I previously tried to cite case law, but could not find something I had previously seen.
  6. Regardless of the reason for bad publicity, bad publicity is still bad. If a game doesn't sell, then the developers don't get money. People being douchebags is ancillary. It's not like simply noting that these people are petty and stupid negates the negative impact they had. And it's not like we can do anything to prevent people from being petty and stupid. What can be done in this situation is limit the harm that petty and stupid people can do. Give them less reason to complain and they don't generate as much bad publicity. Certainly not an ideal solution. It's kind of like giving in to criminal demands. You're almost rewarding them for behaving in an unacceptable manner, but at the same time you're doing it to try to prevent additional problems.
  7. Where is my Nintendo DS and PSP options? Both are far superior platforms to any of the ones included in the poll.
  8. Yes, you can pirate Half-Life 2. CD-key protection schemes require a CD-ROM just to play, so what? Unless you actively store the content on a remote server (like with MMOs), we're not going to see a solution remotely near that simple. And if we go that way, we're going to see subscription fees for server maintenence.
  9. The difference between MMOs and online authentication is miles apart. MMOs actually require you to log in and manage the content (notably other players) on their own servers. You can't hack around that. You remove the authentication in an MMO, you no longer get to play on the servers, which means content is no longer given to you. MMOs are an actual service, not just an authentication scheme.
  10. I'm going to have to doubt this claim. NA, the single largest video game market worldwide, still has quite a taboo on modding of systems. It's not as easy for it to be obtained and is thus rarer. Of course, that's primarilly speculation. Just because I don't see lots of it going on doesn't mean it's not.
  11. It's been building up to this for a while. It's like we've hit a breaking point in the PC market where more and more PC developers are getting sick or it as the problems just gets worse. It's hard to find too many PC devs sticking up for PC gaming anymore. Kind of sad. If PC gaming does die (or get so badly injured it needs life support), hopefully that'll cause enough backlash down the line that people will address some of the problems for a potential revival. As fewer games get released, fewer people will buy PCs. Won't even guess how many or few that will be, but that'll start hurting hardware vendors. I know Intel and Microsoft along with a few others claim to want to do something to help, but after Microsoft's attempts at Windows Live, I'm just going to laugh at whatever they claim is an attempt to "help." Piracy will be a harder problem to deal with.
  12. I believe it's the other way around. But don't quote me! That's practically an invitation!
  13. Selling alright is not the same as being able to get funding for your next project. A company like that probably needs a publisher feeding them money to stay aloft until the game gets done. My understanding is that most studios don't self-fund development. I'd be surprised to hear that Obsidian did. Keep in mind I'm basing all of this conjecture off what happened to Ritual Entertainment, the makers of Sin and Sin:Episodes. They were working on something like 2 other projects at the same time as Sin: Episodes and were even self-funding Sin: Episodes. But the other two projects got canned by the publishers. Suddenly they didn't have enough revenue coming in to support the company.
  14. If by "in the middle of" you mean "it's being released in less than a week," yes.
  15. It's the Crimson Black. I only bought a DS when the Brain Age 2 bundle came out, which is when the Crimson & Black premiered.
  16. You can't make this kind of stuff up, folks.
  17. I dunno. My go-to-guy for anime says: And this is my go-to-guy! What's the local opinion on Noein, Last Exile, and HiME? Legend of Galactic Heroes?
  18. Finally? This isn't the first time he's shown a picture of himself. Remember the visit to Valve? He took a picture with Gabe Newell.
  19. Actually, games are going more and more that route. Splinter Cell (try the multiplayer with 2 or 3 if you don't believe me), Doom 3, even Metal Gear Solid 3 had it at one point (and gradually brightened the area to simulate adjusting to the darkness). Those are limited examples, I grant. But "rare enough" isn't so rare that I can't pull examples of popular series off the top of my head.
  20. Two Noir recommendations? I'll check it out.
  21. What are the other three then? Aliens, PG and? Or do you mean the rumored NWN2 expansion? Why can't MCA be the lead on that one? Maybe he is happy because he got to do a campaign that takes place in the planes or something like that? Because the NWN2 expansion isn't using the Unreal engine?
  22. No Metroid Prime 3?
  23. I'm the Project Lead for Georgia!
  24. Already seen that, how about a list of the several favs? And I agree it was awesome. After I watched it I couldn't watch anything for a while. I had to take a nap because living just wasn't awesome enough anymore by comparison. My list is going to be: Record of Lodoss War Code Geass Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Comedies like Haruhi and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei are good too, but never have that lasting appeal that makes me watch them 20 times. Or even Martian Successor Nadesico, which has the appeal for at least 5 viewings! I'd mention Macross Plus, but the blasted thing is too short for my kick.
  25. Hey guys! I'm on a massive anime kick and am in need of something to watch that I've missed over the years. What are the absolute favorite series around here? I'm talking major anime kick. This past week I've watched Code Geass, Claymore, bits of Trigun, bits of Martian Successor Nadesico, and I demand MOOOOORE. I'll probably buy Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid sometime this week.
