RPG Codex Josh Sawyer Q&A
Tale replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"Tank" may not be what he's referring to by "character concepts." He may be thinking about "intelligent fighter" as a character concept. Then you get to distribute your stats, while still making the character feel like he's smart. Though we still have much to learn. -
I've said for a while that I would love to see a game where he was lead designer instead of lead writer.

http://www.gamefront.com/dragon-age-3s-open-world-informed-dialogue-choices-discussed/ Some stuff from PAX Aus. Nothing big. I think the important bit is that they recognize people didn't like the autodialogue of ME3 or DA2's paraphrasing. Also But they always say that and fail. With Gaider going so far as to pretty much reject that idea publicly.

Creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and valuable is created. It lacks the latter. If the design achieves the intent, I'll value it. -

Thanks for the link. I wonder what he means by unconventional. Even this bit doesn't sound too different from some systems I've seen. I appreciate the intent well enough. -
RPG Codex Josh Sawyer Q&A

I agree that is kind of what they seem like at the moment, although we need more information. Months ago I asked Josh whether the game would even have attributes, because it seemed like it would work perfectly fine without them. Stats seem like something you are required to have for the genre, even if you don't need them, at this point. Just because the audience takes it as sacred. Anyway, I can't wait until we find out more. -
That's what I suspect they'll be doing. Though I said it in the other thread, might as well say it here, I still like the idea of different stats doing different things for different people. It just helps distinguish the classes a little more with flavor. I'll just have to sigh whimsically over the fact that I won't get any charisma based casters who channel magic by charming the pants off creation. To be fair, that's not something I really expected anyway. Cipher and Wizard sound like they were always to use the same stat. Though I would have hoped they'd have a different secondary focus.

I'm disappointed, but I'll get over it. I really like stats to mean different things to different characters and classes. Your charismatic Sorcerer, your intelligent Mage. And then 4e gave me a constitution based Warlock! It feeds my imagination and character ideas. Not just because you have your character who also happens to have this stat, but because of the implications of using power through that stat presents. But enough RPGs stick all casters to the same stat that I'm used to it. It probably makes more sense for their setting, with "souls" being the source of power. A constitution caster doesn't make sense when all magic comes from the soul. -
I like concept art for its own sake but I don't get hyped about it. However, I do like the continuing suggestions that the PC will get their own castle or base. That seems like it was one of the first things confirmed. Or maybe it was just so widely suggested I got that impression.

I hear you brother. I wear a crucifix on my necklace just in case I ever encounter a vampire. What if you get turned into a vampire? You have to think these things through.

I'm waiting for Night of the Rabbit to hit special. I see it got cards, so I figure that it has to.

It looks absolutely wonderful.

Kids react to interracial Cheerios commercial controversy

Are Cheerios really heart healthy with the amount of sugar I have to put in them to make them edible? -
I'm mostly going for trading cards right now. I hit Scribblenauts Unlimited until I got all my drops. Then I idled some System Shock 2 and Skyrim. Going to play The Walking Dead DLC today.

There is some that does do stuff for me. Character art in particular, because they actually use that to base the character model on. And concept art for dungeons. But wide vistas like these go largely ignored.
-
I refuse to get excited by concept art. Even going back to Mass Effect 1, it seemed to be less about creating target styles for the level design and more about pure marketing. The city of chains art for DA2 looks phenomenal. And there's nothing remotely like it in the game anywhere.

Racists were upset at it featuring a mixed-race couple. -
My favorite 4X. That's a fact, look it up. Anyone have a spare Football Manager or Chivalry card to trade? I've got doubles of just about everything else. I got a Chivalry I think. Then you should add me. Apparently Bioshock Infinite is another card I can't trade. No duplicates.

Well, I suppose if Jesus (or any other religion icon figure) were to show up again, today, I figure after a while they'd realize they need to try and "relate" to modern times and popular references, and would, likely, get it all wrong on how to go about it, at first. Seriously tho...in today's cynical times, it would be difficult to convince very many. The loaves and fishes thing wouldn't be enough. Burning bushes? Special effects. You'd have to pull the moon out of its orbit with a wave of the hand or something along that scale (while simultaneously having that not cause disaster). Even then, someone is going go think James Cameron was behind it all, somehow. Get some decent scientists to investigate your claims, to witness and try to debunk them. Someone like James Randi. We have plenty of people out there who investigate phenomena directly with experimental methods, not simple theorycraft or re-creation. Don't just do it on video or behind closed doors for an audience that consists of people who think they're reincarnations of martian princesses.

Do cult leaders tend to be sociopaths looking to exploit people or charismatic psychotics? I wonder if there's been many studies on the subject.

I just checked on that because it sounded ridiculous. It seems the women who got 20 years left the house to get the gun, then returned. In which case, I definitely see the argument that it was assault. She could have simply left. The Zimmerman issue here is yes, Zimmerman could have not followed Martin, in fact was instructed not to. But the second Martin attacked Zimmerman, he could not have left. At that one point, there was no real choice.

Tomb Raider and Mars: War Logs, yeeesh. And I grabbed the Hitman bundle because why not. All I'm waiting on now is Metro: Last Light.
