  1. Except actually Doppelschwart was just using the Email example as a direct comparison to the letter writing idea, and saying 'hey if it worked OK in this context when we called it an Email, maybe it wouldn't be all that terrible in a fantasy context if we called it a letter', and I'm sure you knew that, so why not address the actual point, hmmmm?
  2. Yeah Elerond summarized it nicely, by the way Elerond you know a lot about polygamy..how many wives do you actually have ? Why do you presume that they are (only) wives? I researched subject little bit when helped with equal marriage civil bill campaign in here Finland, because allowance of polygamy marriage is thing that always rises on surface when one speaks about allowance of same-sex marriage, so I though it's probably better know at least little bit about subject. What is the specific opposition to polygamy? Is it because it would be a massive nuisance sorting out what rights who has in relation to who else?
  3. Interesting, actually didn't know there'd be distinct laws for polygynous and polyandrous relationships, but that probably should've been obvious if I'd thought about it. Thanks Elerond, I feel enlightened!
  4. Oh, I missed the overturning bit because I was too lazy (and pressed for time, but mostly the lazy thing) to read all 8 pages of this thread. Well, the bill's gone, cool, good chat. How about consensual polygamy, what's the legal status of that one, while we're here? EDIT: While, not which. That wouldn't even make sense. Gosh, Chairchucker, get your head in the game.
  5. To be clear, is it illegal to be sexually intimate with someone of the same sex, or does the law actually stretch to merely being attracted to someone of the same sex, as well? Because if the latter, how the hell do you police that?
  6. In which RPG? Any in particular, or you've liked all the romances you've seen in every RPG you've played?
  7. Big Head Mode rules, gonna use it every time, would pick it over romance options. Well, thanks for reading, it's been swell.
  8. You're within driving distance of Scotland. Go there, it's awesome.
  9. Maybe his PC's broken. Maybe his internet. Maybe he got a new puppy and that's taken all his attention. I hear puppies can be time sinks.
  10. Maybe he's gone on vacation.
  11. I'd be OK with it to be honest, but whatevs.
  12. Do we have an idea of what size the download for the beta will be?
  13. Well, there's 36 pages I'm so not reading, here's my 100% True and Correct Opinion on the matter: I don't mind if romances exist I guess except I kind of don't like that every time I've seen them they're basically nothing but a dialogue based minigame (pick the 'nice' options and then 'yes' at the important point) with sex as the endgame. That's not a relationship, that's a one night stand. The one romance I have liked was, funnily enough given this forum's weird obsession with hating everything about Bioware and their fanbase, in Mass Effect 3. Although it didn't involve Shepard, so maybe that's why I thought it worked. Having a bunch of preset potentially romantic things for my own character to say didn't really grab me, but watching a romance blossom between Ta'Li and Garrus was cool and cute and fun. So basically, I'm generally opposed to romances for the PC on the basis of 'they're not very good and they take resources away from things that potentially could be good', but I'm in favour of being a wingman for one of my bros.
  14. Question re: game data. Will there be overlap between the data of the beta and the data of the full thing? More specifically, will we be able to download an 'update' that upgrades the beta to the full thing once that's out, or will we have to basically delete the beta completely and download the whole game separately? I only ask because my internet has a laughably small cap.
  15. Oh! Yes! I actually had Bear in the Big Blue House as my avatar at one point! I think my reasoning behind choosing him was something along the lines of 'he looks fun and funny'.
  16. Yeah I don't actually remember. Sooooo long ago!
  17. Hey you! Another response it due now. OK well. First of all. *is due. GOSH. Second of all, how do we kill off these quote pyramids again? Third of all I'm out of things I can think of to talk about. How about that soccer that's happening, eh? I'm actually boycotting it on account of FIFA being grotesque comic book villains, but apparently there are some exciting games happening.
  18. I will write a response to this thread here it is here's the response OK carry on about your business.
  19. Given that RTwP is often the thing that is presented as the direct alternative to turn based, (see: the current discussion at the Torment: Tides of Numenera site) I'd say it's not actually similar enough.
  20. Monopoly is terrible and you're terrible for presenting it as an example of a good game. ...also did you just present the Infinity Engine games as examples of turn based games?
  21. Well, different people like different games I guess. Wasteland is pretty new, and there are people who think that was very good.
  22. One of the DnD books had a spiel from Elminster about why he didn't try to overthrow evil. It was not very convincing. It was something along the lines of "Yes maybe I could try to defeat the evil masters of evil, but what if I was unsuccessful, had you thought of that?" Good point beardy, better keep throwing low level heroes at them instead.
  23. Because they're not? Why any other Sunday players (footbal, basketball, tennis) will have no problem in admitting that they are not as good as people who play regularly, but computer games players flip out when you state the obvious. Why?! Why is it always "I have a job, wife, lover, dog, and not so much time for games so make it easier and shorter and dumbed down". Why should we care if you don't have enough time? That's your problem. Did you hear about amateurs leagues in any activity to propose to simplifying the rules and make it easier to play their sport of choosing for everyone because THEY don't have enough time to be good? No! So why should game industry be any different?! Why people who have time and want good games with challenges be not allowed to have them because some Joe Average have a kid? Play on Easy and be grateful that there is an Easy difficulty. What? You feel insulted because the game is to hard and you cannot play on Normal difficulty? Tough luck, you really care about this. You have lowest quality wife, lowest quality job, lowest quality life then why can't you set for the lowest difficulty in game? Hmmm, personal attacks aside which are pretty inappropriate and make you look pretty bad, you've totally missed the point in that Mor does not appear to be advocating removing the options for extra challenge. Hence the sentence 'As long as we have choice it is all good.' He just seems to be saying that people who act all elitist about how they're doing Ironman and anyone who isn't doing that and graphing their own maps and turning all the ease of use interface options off are low born scum - well those people are foppish and smell of rotting fish. I may have paraphrased slightly.
  24. The games starring that chap in my avatar there, Twinsen's Adventure and Twinsen's Odyssey, are on special and I would classify those games as 'dope' and encourage people who like actiony adventurey explorey type games to get them both now.
  25. A lot of people have said they don't want the 'big bad' to be cliched, and while I can understand that, many cliches exist for very good reasons. A lot of 'big bads' have very simple motivations; they want money and power etc, and are totally OK with crushing people underfoot to get these things. The reason this kind of motivation exists for villains in many forms of media, including games, is that this kind of motivation exists for humans in real life.
