Please, Obsidz, bug hunt your save game function hard!
I had that wolfwere issue I remember.. I think you have to shut the entire game down and re open it and reload. Pretty annoying, wondered why I kept dying so hard and miserably all the time.

Am I the only one who dislikes portraits (as a concept)?
daven replied to mrmonocle's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)The 3D pictures look terrible in Neverwinter Nights 2. I have to use the portrait mod whenever I play that. On a similar sort of note, I much prefer the 2d Codec pictures in MGS1 compared to the 3d heads in MGS2.

Voice acting in Pillars @
daven replied to Maziga's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Other than Eder, the VO in Pillars is pretty weak. That Orlan in The White March part 2 outside Durgan's Battery.... I had to mute my speakers. I don't mind Durance but i'm pretty sure the same voice actor does nearly every NPC so it kind of detracts from it. Also... I know a lot of people are against this nowadays but I much prefer the good old English accents, American really sounds out of place in fantasy games. I guess i'm just old fashioned.

My big hope for thiis game is that the soundtrack won't...put me to sleep
I was trying to think of some recent high quality soundtracks, probably Persona 5 but like you say it's a Japanese game. The Dragon Age games don't have particularly memorable soundtracks but they serve the game well enough. I suppose Pillars is the same.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLfyRQfHAio&index=3&list=PL1504051B3E0F033C The Iron Flail fort music reminds me of this piece from The Killing Fields. It's probably my favourite piece in the game. Most of the music sounds really depressing, which isn't a bad thing but sometimes more triumphant music could be played, it just feels like you're on a constant downer. There aren't any parts like in BG1 when you're heading to the Iron Throne compound and have the candelkeep music playing in Baldurs Gate motivating you.

Things we like about the classics which we want in Deadfire?
Sort of. I tend to treat journal more like a part of an UI than the world. I want it to be as functional as possible. I don't use journal for immersion, but to remind myself what quest I took and abandoned long time ago, or to refresh a location of a quest I want to do. Ideally journal shouldn't be a part of a quest, and often enough I would complete quests in PoE1 without consulting the journal. I get what you mean but I think having as little UI stuff as possible is a good thing. Or maybe I just like the writing in the little journal entries in BG1/2 because they are kind of amusing and have character, kind of like Morrowind as well. Whereas Pillars is more like Skyrim. Just gives you information about the location of the target or whatever. A least from what I remember!

I will let this thread die after this but... I actually really like that you don't get constant quest updates and sub quests and yadda yadda yadda. I don't thing any game has perfected it yet but I do like the journal of BG2. It can get confusing if you take on too much at once but it feels more... natural? PoE just feels like a checklist.

I don't want to have a go at PoE's soundtrack because it is fine, but that's it... it's just fine. There's the odd piece which is pretty good and memorable but most of it sounds depressing and the battle music is a ripoff of BG2's. BG1 and 2 had fantastic music, also Neverwinter Nights. I think some people might disagree because it's basically the exact same tune just recomposed or whatever but it works really well for me at least. Icewind Dale music fits brilliantly for the style it was going for. Pillars its just OK compared to these, but i guess it's harsh to compare it since they were so good.

Voice acting in Pillars @
daven replied to Maziga's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Yes, sometimes I do end up skipping through some voice acting. but it's good to have the option ya know? Sometimes I just want to get on with it but sometimes i like to sit back and listen to the drama unfold.

Has it been said whether or not there will be any more update videos?
daven replied to Bionick's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Yeah it's kind of odd, you'd think they would be putting information out trying to get people pumped for the game.

daven replied to Maziga's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)YES! I love the little comments people make when you click them. I know most are repeated but it just adds a bit of characters, and it's quite amusing. I'm a fine looking strumpet... aren't I!

Does Obsidian plan to address the underpowering of mage weapons such as Concelhaut's Parasitic Staff, etc?
daven replied to Stardusk78's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)There is a very important reason for this, but I have to go over there now.

I do like the guy in Baldur's Gate who just yaps on. Lord... something. He is really pretentious and just says really long winded stuff about adventuring but doesn't actually say much at all. WHAT IS HIS NAME?!

Best Quests from Other Titles
daven replied to Elkor_Alish's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)A lot of the Dark Brotherhood quests in Oblivion are good and there are usually multiple ways to complete them. I have been playing New Vegas again and something is really bothering me, a lot of the quests you just run back and forth constantly.

You misunderstood. OP has nothing against long dialogue, but would rather see less sentences in one "box". It means he wants to have long dialogues as they come, but with more "Continue" clicking, so the big wall of text is spreaded out. This is correct. Just the sight of a wall of text is kind of off putting. The same amount of text spread over a few boxes really helps. For me at least!

daven replied to Elkor_Alish's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)The mysterious box thing in KOTOR. I liked that one, haven't played it in a long time so can't remember exactly how it goes but... was a bit different and there was 0 combat.

I really don't care about real world religion, we shouldn't apply that to these games. It's completely different. Religion in Forgotten Realms and Pillars are actually more real as the devoted are granted spells and what not. In fact I would liken real world religion to worshipping Ao.
-
Things we like about the classics which we want in Deadfire?
Are you saying you want religion or don't want it? Pretty sure there was tons of religion in BG2, and there was a lot on Pillars? Actually I've changed my mind about that. In the forgotten realms religion is pretty important. There are temples everywhere and people are quite serious about the gods and what have you. In Pillars it's only a side note unless the plot decides it's important.

If you wore Plate armour +1, you couldn't equip a ring of the princes. It just would not allow you to equip it. I prefer that to allowing you to equip it but not allowing any bonus and not even telling you!
