I got a security Plasmid with my second gift. And this game really is very good indeed, I wasn't expecting it to be so cool.

Damn it! I'm actually pissed off that someone spoiled the ending for me, the game isn't as much fun now.

There's no way in hell this is an 8 hour game. I'm at 6 hours and I've barely touched the second bathysphere area.

Well, I'm around 5 hours in and at this stage I think I'm in love with this game. It's like System Shock 2 with more of a pulse...that would turn off some I guess but I actually think I like this better than SS2 so far. The game is very linear though, I think you mainly have to backtrack only to unlock secrets with your new powers a la Zelda, but that doesn't bother me cause the story, setting and combat are so damn good. I think to call this a straight-up shooter is ignoring all the thought that's put into every room and all the options you have in combat. In short, this game rocks and unless it runs out of ideas I'll still be ranting about it after I'm finished. Awesome. Btw I think we should keep this thread free of spoilers...I know there are some whoppers in the game

Does this mean I don't have to buy a new graphics card? In other news, it turns out the new version of DirectX (10.1) will be incompatible with current DX10 cards.....ouch!

Hi, I don't know if any of the Obs peeps play much Counter-Strike but I was wondering if an official Obsidian Steam group is on the cards? It'd be really cool to be able to play against you guys without having to go through all the effort of organising weekly games etc.

The only other game that has ever got that high a score in PC Zone is Half-Life 2. I'm guessing this game is going to be huge. More details on the review to follow.

Considering that the NWN2 team sent her a NWN2 box autographed by the entire team I think they're on pretty good terms. If I were making games that's exactly the kind of publicity I'd be looking for.

NWN sold a lot more, was better reviewed and was a lot easier to use. Maybe the expansion will attract some more modders.

Btw you can buy just about the entire id back catalogue, from Commander Keen to Doom 3, for about $60...a pretty good deal if you ask me, or at least I thought so when I came in pissed the other day and ordered the whole lot.

I've never played a Manhunt game but it doesn't sound like the kind of thing I would want my kids exposed to. Brutally violent games are unnecessary and potentially harmful imho.

You might regret that viewpoint if a pumped up meathead came your way after psyching himself up on a Manhunt binge and lamped you one. There is no doubt in my mind that games can be an influence on violent behaviour, it allows people to act out their worst fantasies and for some after a while fantasy doesn't do enough. Sure these people might end up looking for trouble anyway but do you think violent games help or hinder the issue? Seems pretty simple to me. So if the BBFC want to ban this game I probably don't want to play it anyway.

I'm no fan of censorship, but the BBFC don't hand out bans willy nilly, it must be a pretty bleak game.

Judging a game without having played it seems a little ridiculous to me. I'm impressed by the fact that it's all in-engine and the mood is pretty Fallouty. Other than that it's a teaser so it's not exactly going to show you much. I think anyone who grew up with the original Fallouts is going to be hard to please with this game. Personally I'm going to temper my expectations and just try and enjoy it so long as it doesn't outright suck. Games aren't what they used to be in general so it's not going to be a complete replica of the original experience, maybe that's a good thing.

Like I said in another thread, one of the bigwigs at Blizzard has already said recently that they'd be revisiting the Starcraft universe sometime before the 10 year anniversary of the first game. I think SC was in 1998 so I'm 99.9% sure this is going to be a Starcraft game and it had better not be another MMO or I'll go and sulk in the corner.

Why do you say that? I'll be genuinely disappointed if this game isn't Starcraft 2, I mean the announcement is taking place in Korea which is the heart of Starcraft-fever.

Maybe some kind of minigame where you face off against the potential thief. But the whole idea is a complete minefield...players just will not want to lose their hard earned items and if it was possible half the population would be stealing off each other in a thief-fest. But the immersion factor would be great, having to keep on your toes the whole time. I hope they do come up with a balanced way of implementing this in some other game.

*sigh* Can someone stop me from buying games? I already have NWN2, C&C3, Stalker, and the Civ 4 Warlords expansion pretty much unplayed sitting on my desk and now I've added LOTR to the pile.
