  1. Didn't they say they were no longer going to work on non-in-house IPs? It's a peculiar exception to make.
  2. Which is fortunate. hundreds of thousands of people see sequels to movies nobody liked (see: Fantastic 4) and it's sort of comforting that a similar phenomenon doesn't occur in the gaming world.
  3. Terrible idea. I highly doubt that Bioware can stop Sonic's downward spiral. Last time they tried to have Sonic with a plot it was ****. Terrible, terrible idea. Just... Jesus. They dropped Star Wars and D&D for this?
  4. That's what I was saying.
  5. My aim handle contains "Teh", just because "The" was taken and it's uber-l337.
  6. You can't really expect to openly say that you're rewarding a man for weathering death threats and not have it cross the people making the death threats. If they want Salman Rushdie dead, any official action in regard to him short of handing him over to Tehran would be construed as some kind of affront, because the Ayatollah decreed that he must die, no? Their beef is with Rushdie, and the friend of an enemy is an enemy. And considering the level of education in Iran it seems peculiar to assert that this kind of thing can't be dealt with on account of simplistic Iranian reactionism.
  7. *edit - you know what? Blah, be industrious, take a guess I actually came around to ETS just as the whole Mikeyliz thing was wrapping up and the thread was closed, but it was fun to feel the afterglow.
  8. Unfortunately, she ran off before she could be helped, but she lives on in our hearts.
  9. Rar, I'm gonna maul you. I do not approve of the concept art of the "grey red wizard". Add color, consarnit. I'm going to be so bored if the adversaries in MotB are Red Wizards who are... wait for it... not actually Red. Blah.
  10. Au contraire, I take pleasure in the spread of any meme. Except pedobear.
  11. No, she was real. Extensive, possibly illegal research proved it. We didn't believe it either.
  12. That thread is a treasured part of ETS history. Handle carefully. Morm never topped herself after that one. We all tell her that she should get back into fanfic writing. I've never been anywhere where the mods are nearly as pithy. No kid gloves allowed.

Apparently Sony, too, will not release AO games. So it looks like Take Two's only option is to cut the game up and hope for an M rating.

In a way, I'm always surprised by the sheer willingness of people to turn libertarian whenever something they might marginally enjoy is affected by government oversight. And after some checking, Nintendo indeed "refuses to license games that carry the ESRB rating "AO" (Adults Only)." So at this point, Take Two is either going to force Rockstar to drastically alter their game, or lose unprecedented amounts of the market, and take huge losses on their investment, on principle, for what amounts to an Acclaim-caliber snuff game. Honestly, I'm not shedding any tears. Even as somebody who really, really loves gaming, I don't feel compelled to stand up for every two-bit exploitation game. I do not fear the Jack Thompson contingent, they'll fail with or without my involvement.
  16. He looks like a basset hound.
  17. As I recall, the Slayer transformation only lowered your reputation by 2 every time you used it, and by that point you could easily go to a temple and pay your way back into adoration. Let's hear it for consequences!
  18. Why would anyone pay me more than a million dollars for my million dollars stretched out over a long period of time? If you've got that much money to blow, you know of far smarter investments.
  19. Nobody understands how winning the lottery works. If I win a million dollars in the lotto, they don't give me a million dollar check, besides the big novelty ones that you can't cash. They give me $4,166.66 every month for 20 years. But when people win a million dollars they are naturally inclined to live like millionaires, so they'll buy a few new houses or a collection of classic cars, and thus quickly dive into a situation where the $4,166.66 they get every month can't even begin to cover the interest on the debt they've accrued. So if that happens, usually what will happen to me is a company will approach me and offer to buy my $1,000,000 in increments for however much it will take to pay off the debt, or however much the company feels they can get away with, in a bulk sum. You can't win the lotto and buy a multi-million dollar game franchise. You couldn't even do it over 20 years if you're living on your winnings.
  20. Isn't Fargo's company a casual gaming developer? Maybe he'll loan it out to somebody :" Fergie better start working the phones here, if this is legit.
  21. Hopefully this means we'll get to meet the new talent behind the project. DIDN'T THINK I WAS GOING THERE DID YOU

Also note: The ESRB has officially given Manhunt an "Adults Only" rating, which is pretty big. I'm personally wondering if Nintendo's going to react adversely to all of this, given their generally squeaky-clean image.
  23. 1. Depends. I know several people who have married after internet courtships, but these only lasted because they extended beyond digital communication. I can't say I've ever known "internet couples" to work. Same principle as any long-distance relationship. Proximity is key. 2. I live on the internet. Your ugly picture ain't ****. 3. For the lulz. Also, because it cuts out the hard parts of interpersonal communication. Before the internet started, if you were a nerd you'd have to join a club or hang around a local gameshop to maybe meet somebody with similar interests and aspirations as yourself. With internet communities, you don't have to leave your basement, and you're instantly in contact with hundreds, maybe thousands of people like yourself. Nerds are now only asocial in a certain sense, rather than in every sense. 4. Well, they'd probably be from my other internet haunts. One is Mormolyke, a venerable poster at another board, married to one of the site admins, who is always really, really sharp. She's merciless. Best example. Read the whole thing, it's glorious. To this day, forum users who obstinantly deny the will of the mods out of sheer ineptitude are given the honorary title of "Mikeyliz". Another would be Morm's husband, Levi, who's a good friend of mine. The third would probably be Yashaskaram, a member of the board that was a 50-year old Native American ex-SWAT sniper who took a leave of absence from the forum to volunteer in NOLA after Katrina. He met his wife, also a friend of mine, when she was a bystander during a SWAT confrontation. I'm still not convinced he's real, but man, the stories he tells, I hope he is. Honorable mention probably goes to JE Sawyer, because of his willingness to explain Van Buren to me when I first came around here. 5. On another forum I frequent there's a contingency of posters who belong to an IRC chatroom only tangentially related to the board. They tend to come onto the forum and act as if it's a real-time chatroom. Casual racism, lame in-jokes and constant incestuous shmoozing of one another. They're always irritating, but it's satisfying to see the admins crack down every once in awhile.
  24. Tell you what, I'll be concerned over Salman Rushdie being knighted when families stop getting cash settlements for suicide bombers. Just saying. Somebody important said something about logs in eyes.
