  1. I am really just interested in how the guy manages to hold his lightsaber reverse handed and not slice of his own ear.
  2. I've never heard of that, but I don't know why Blizzard is tying it to LAN, since they could just, y'know, fix b.net instead. I'm not privy to either codebase, so I can only make assumptions for why they wouldn't choose to, y'know, fix battle.net instead. Perhaps they see this as a cheaper overall solution (including lost sales for those that are upset about it). Blizzard losing fanbase because they took out some feature is like a dealer losing customers because he is raising the price per gram.
  3. I am pretty sure all those comics would have sold a lot less if their female heroines all wore baggy jeans and loose fitting sweaters.
  4. Society is not the elite society is the whole, the elite is simply the top run of it. The basic question is what do you do about the remaining 90% of men? Nothing? Dope and rope them to damnation? A philosophy that endorses a minority of all people is doomed to failure and violent revolution, so what about the others? In North America we have socialism, in other places we have repression. And it isn't like you can just pretend they don't exist or are cattle because they are human and they are conscious of class and social differences. What Rand proposes is either that we endorse and gear society wholly around this small minority which then is simply a recipe for class warfare or she has the gigantic misconception that everyone is a Byronic superman, genius and talent simply waiting to burst from the suffocating chains of social welfare and taxation. And beyond the whole concept of categorizing people in this manner as establishment, by class, by position even by merit is a dangerous slope and somehow morally revolting.
  5. In the parable of the Grand Inquisitor, Jesus descends from heaven into middle age Europe during some of the worse inquisitorial purges. The Grand Inquisitor the most fearsome of them and their leader recognizing Jesus rather then embracing him as his savior immediately locks him up and sets to have him burnt at the stake. The night before he is to be purged the Grand Inquisitor visits Jesus' cell and poses to him the three temptations of the Devil, I can't remember them all, you can easily google up the parable yourself. Essentially one such of the GI's arguments to Jesus is that his conception of the church is flawed because only the greatest and most faithful of men could have possibly endured the torment and suffering of temporal life and still carry the conviction of their being an eternal one afterwards, the vast majority of people cannot amount to the expectations of God. In other words God sends down Jesus only to save those few "elect" and the rest are doomed to damnation, so the Church in the GI's view is there but to dope and rope the masses on their way to eternal damnation, at least if they are to suffer eternally they should be carried to their slaughter unknowingly. Clearly Dostoevsky commentary of the Christian church already contains the outlines of Objectivism which is essentially an elitist philosophy, which by no means is new to history. Sure maybe the top 10% can live in a society where the rights and privileges are accorded by degrees of ability and merit just as the top 10% will entire the gates of paradise, but that is not society and no society will ever be built like that. The majority will always be an average lot, or in Dostoevsky's bleak view a brutal, nasty, suffering lot and any world view of society must account for all its components. You can work on the rest of the critique from here I am sure. In the end there will always be those that get ahead by luck, determination, or talent in any society but if they do that is on an individual basis, the moment you turn try to institutionalize into society or systematize it into a philosophy you lose that individuality and degenerate into elitism. And I say elitism the same way I would say gutter whore.
  6. I opt for total existence failure at the quantum level.
  7. The flaws of Ayn Rand are perfectly summed up by Dostoyevsky's parable of the Grand Inquisitor in Brothers Karamazov. I really credit Bioshock with the recent Ayn Rand vogue.
  8. Precisely what happened with RE4 PC version. I remember reading it was outsourced to some unknown chinese firm and the end result didn't support mouse controls or bloom effects. Putting mouse control in a console shooter makes it way to easy. I can't tell you how easy GTA 4 became once I played it on PC, headshots everywhere.
  9. I usually make my main character a heavily armored, sword and shield wielding fighter, because I am completely unoriginal who conform to all fantasy cliches when making parties.
  10. Are you guys sure? I am pretty sure the way it worked was a friend would host the game under a real LAN the then everyone else makes real LAN connections to the game, and then once all your buddies have joined, you host the game on b.net using list checker to get a bunch of b.net players, this was how we did it for DOTA when we wanted to do a pub stomp on battle.net. So all the LAN players who joined the game prior to hosting on b.net could be playing off the same cd-key. Hamachi was for if two of us weren't actually under the same real LAN.
  11. They probably did this for Hamachi at least until a couple months ago I am pretty you could play pirated Warcraft 3 on b.net with a combination of hamachi and list checker so long as you had a friend with a legit key host for you. In college we all played LAN DOTA using only one copy of warcraft 3, I am pretty sure there is a large market there. Though if it weren't for LAN we wouldn't have played anyways since none of us were going to shell out money for the actual game.
  12. I have a sph-m500 samsung cellphone does anyone know how to get the sim card out of the thing? After you take out the battery there is no noticeable sim card, theres this aluminum grate below which looks like some sort of circuitry. I saw a post using google about some guy having the same problem but the reply was far too vague to be of any use. So does anyone know how to get the sim card out of this model of cell phone? Thanks
  13. You know after a while that is pretty much what Diablo 2 degenerated into. Baal runs and trading. It got to the point on my spare days I would be trading or Baal running 50 times, sometimes I throw in a cow run somewhere in there. Most of the time you just refreshed the join games list over and over looking for decent trades. The worse were the rune words I dunno why but rune grinding to make uber rune words was extremely addictive, that and trying to get Elite items with the right number of sockets. In a way the whole experience (and the ruination of my childhood in conjunction with the original Diablo) immunized me to MMORPGs, I find no MMORPG fun because they are all just Diablo 2 style baal runs with more people and social interaction, and maybe more or less ****.
  14. Gotta get around to that some day, I loved the first two Gothics but somehow I just couldn't get into 3 despite all the anticipation I had for it.
  15. Dunno about you guys but I only buy stuff off steam when there are weekend specials so I got Left4Dead for 24 bucks, thats probably what I will do for the sequel and at that price its reasonable to think of it as a expansion pack. I am worried about the community fragmenting with a sequel coming so soon not every will want to migrate and we may end up with some people playing the sequel and some not.
  16. Oblivion isn't even that bad, the only grips I really have loss of throwing weapons and the simplification of the armor system i really liked the way you could mix and max pauldrons, bracers, etc. The only major step backwards in my opinion was fast travel. Nothing destroys the sense of a massive, epic world then being able to teleport from one place to another. Silt striders is fine but fast travel is not. Also wasn't Cyrodil originally a jungle? The redesigned empire from the Roman look in Morrowind to generic fantasy was also lame. But in general the game was fun. Oh yea towns should also have been seamless from the outside world like in Gothic.
  17. is that the game with the impossible race track mission? **** I nearly put a hole through my monitor playing that mission over and over again. Beat it eventually but god that was bull****. Also there was a speed limit in the city you couldn't exceed.
  18. SM are a bunch of genetically enhanced, brain washed monastic warrior monks basically. 40k is about as grim and dark as you can get. The scales of everything is multiplied by 1000 times, instead of millions of people dying billions die. The imperial guard is billions of men and women. Takes place over the whole god damn galaxy. The rule of 40k is anything that is normal sized increase to giant size. See bolters and chainswords.
  19. Eschalon, this is one of the hardest games I ever played. I quicksave practically ever 5 seconds. I also have a large widescreen monitor so everything shows up in this tiny windows box.
  20. Looks good, I really like the vacuum sequence at the end. I was playing SS2 the other day and I realized the techno beat on the Medical deck sounds almost exactly like music from Mass Effect.
  21. EUIX

    Yay!

It's a good game in its own right. It just isn't Fallout. I just pretend I am playing a new franchise with suspicious similarities to the Fallout series. It would have been just as well if Bethesda just made the game a new series, and dropped all the Fallout art and pretenses it would have done just as well. I really don't understand why they decided to make it a sequel to Fallout 3 rather then a new IP since the the fallout fanbase is not big enough and mostly too elitist to drive sales vis a vis Halo or Gears of War, they must have known the NMA crowd would be foaming at the mouth over the game. I mean in the end all it was was the name itself and that isn't that important when the developer label is Bethesda. Its sort of like Bioshock I think everyone who loved SS2 was expecting Bioshock to be like Christ descending from heaven instead they got a fps with some pretense of RPG elements, but since the whole thing was a new intellectual property nobody complained too much. If they had called it SS3 and set it on a spaceship there would probably be a lot more bitching and moaning.
  22. Yes I believe you can't install the UI without the widescreen mod.
  23. Think Ubuntu does wireless with relatively little pain.
  24. I just did a clean install the widescreen mod + the high resolution bug however seems to introduce some bugs in the graphics. Also the fonts become pixelized. This wouldn't be a huge deal if you didn't have to read a massive quantity of text in Torment.
  25. They were products of genetic experimentation. I believe there were Wanmingos and there were Aliens they looked the same but had different stats.
