  1. Damn, just started playing System Shock 2 yesterday. I will speed through that and reinstall Torment. Haven't played in years.
  2. The last battle was pretty tough, I ended up loading an older save game and then buffing up to near epic level and then coming back fully stacked. Then I wasted them.
  3. Everything should be under /mnt, if not then the media is not mounted, I can't remember the command off the top of my head but a quick google search for "mounting cdroms in linux" will get it for you. Boy I haven't been here in forever. Joined 2004...
  4. More so in the 64 bit version of Linux there are a lot of issues, if you don't want problems with flash especially, go with 32-bit. I have had a lot of problems with Maple classic worksheets the Java Gui works okay but when you need to do intensive computation its too tedious, and I have never gotten Mathematica working. That said Linux does have an excellent analysis suite that would otherwise cost big $$$$ on Windows like, the Linux clone of Origin which is totally free but will cost you a pretty penny otherwise. Then there are printing issues and issues with fonts because some are propriety and burning software K3B is good but there are problems out of the box with burning mp3's into audio cds and the like. Ubuntu is relatively good for most of the stuff but I run Fedora 10 with xfce and its a pain to get everything running. I never yum update, because every time I do some piece of crap stops working. I particularly like how you have to reinstall nvidia drivers every time you update the kernel, not a big deal, but still annoying. Ultimately a lot of the problem is just there is so much variation in distro and relatively little standardization, solutions to technical problems mostly rely on spending an afternoon combing through technical support for Linux forum posts using google.
  5. Even with Ubuntu the most user friendly distro there are still things that just don't work right out of the box. If you are switching to Linux be prepared to fiddle around a lot.
  6. I just hope its better then Jade Empire, cause that was a big let down.
  7. Bioshock, I hope my computer can run it. Though it probably can't.
  8. http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113635 Have fun. Yea looked at that, don't think I haven't tried. SS2 is one of the few RPG classics I have yet to play so I naturally spent quite some time trying to get it working. I might get back to it some time. As a matter of fact I think if you goto the tail of that thread I am somewhere in there.
  9. Bloodlines again, as a Tremere, I play SS2 but I can't get it working in XP no matter what.
  10. Dark Sun, hand drawn background, isometric viewpoint with 3D models. And a huge world to explore like Fallout. A updated Fallout really with obsidian (har har) clubs and mind powers.
  11. I never got into Civ 4, Civ 3 I played but all I really remember is once you get to the 1800's the AI takes forever to move.
  12. Medieval 2: Total War, rathering disappointing to tell you guys the truth. It's way too much like Rome, the graphics even look the same, and with Rome there was Total Realism mod.
  13. Yes there is a mention of Dak'kon in the game I won't say when though.
  14. I finally figured it out. I posted this right before the forum was shut for maintenance or something. Apparently because of faster cpu's the conveyer belt at the island goes too fast and it becomes impossible to complete the chain puzzle. You have to "declock" your cpu to get the scene to function correctly. For those of you like me who spent several hours slamming the keyboard. At one point as Manny you have to raise a boat out of the water but in order to do this you have send a chain from a crane down a conveyer belt, and in order to do this you must run down the belt against the flow then jump out and reverse the motion of the belt but on modern day cpus the belt actually moves too fast and this becomes impossible to do.
  15. Try IWD 1, I nearly pulled my hair out in the first dungeon. Kresselack's Tomb, I can't spell the word. Reload, reload, reload....
  16. NWN 2 for sure. At least the OC (no not that stupid show), the original NWN OC was just so bad, first RPG I never finished, and hopefully last. On a rather related note Deus Ex wasn't a sequel but it sure did save Ion Storm's ass. Some games which were definite improvements over their prior titles I thought were Heavy Gear 2 (huuuuuuuuuuuuuge), Quake 4 (really impressed), and BG2. But yea for every game with a better sequel there are 3 without. Deus Ex, Thief, amongst others come to mind.
  17. Neeshka had a hideous voice - she was like Annah from Torment except she was a screeching turd. I guess if it was the designer's intent to make her annoying then they succeded masterfully. Qara I did like initially but when her only dialogue options consisted of "I am a 17 year old stuck up high school girl" that was too much, and to top of it off I actually tried to gain influence with her over the course of the game cause I thought there was a side quest or something there and then she just walks out on me? I rushed her with Khelgar and punched her to death. I liked Elanee alot better although I never brought her along for anything.
  18. Beat NWN 2, lame ending, but killing Qara, and Neeshka was awesome. I like how the designers had the foresight to let you kill those annoyances. Starting Gothic 3, and I played for about 1 hour now, already like it better then Oblivion, makes me remember why I played Gothic 2 more then three times over. Dunno about the tech issues people have been having with the game, it runs alright with some lag on my computer and theres been a few cases of clipping and of course the usual poor translations and bad grammar, otherwise the games fine.
  19. I could not name them all, I don't even remember every game I own.
  20. Yep. I had that problem. Albeit I didn't download any patches. Teehee. It is really annoying especially when you have trek through like the Red Giant mountains and you end up with the classic, "You must gather your party before venturing forth".
  21. Let's see here, its a ASUS P5B...its midnight here I guess I can browse the asus website tomorrow for the manual.
  22. Has anyone noticed in NWN 2 that sometimes NPC's will just stop following you, or rather the AI shuts off (they go into permanent puppet mode) and no matter how many times I click puppet mode off they are still brain dead.
  23. Hey guys, sorry was a little busy in the past day or so. Its a solid continous beeping sound, also I tried swapping power supplies to no avail. I suspect the motherboard is at fault, convieniently enough it didn't come with a manual for some reason (its ASUS). Don't quite understand the question of what bios, I can't make it to the bios the cooling fan will barely start turning before things shut off.
  24. Well who knows, I remember when they said they were going to release Prey I had forgotten about that game for YEARS. I remember when they were talking about the concept design of that game where you play as a Native American but when Duke Nukem Forever was first previewed.
  25. I am building a new a computer for someone and after getting it all together I press the power button and I hear this really sharp and loud beeping sound and then a second or two later the computer powers, the hard drive never reads, the memory test never runs, it is barely on for a second. I tried pulling everything off and leaving just the CPU, ram, and a video card but to no avail. Anyone know whats wrong? I suspect the beeping noise means something but dunno what.
