  1. I don't mind DLC as long as it isn't **** thats already on the disc that needs unlocking or clearly **** you cut away from the actual game like Broken Steel.
  2. Deus Ex had head bob you can turn that off to reduce motion sickness. Speaking of which Blueshift for 1.69? How could I refuse.
  3. Black mesa is the duke nukem forever of mods. No updates since last november is also a little ominous. You gotta look at the twitter updates at the bottom of the page apparently they absolutely assure it will come out this year. But I wouldn't bet on it.
  4. I rather hate how all games come out during the holiday season when I absolutely have no time to game, I have to wait until the following summer to play anything.
  5. I been running a Communist China game, so far Shaanxi has taken over Manchuko, Guangxi Clique took over Taiwan, Okinawa, and invaded Korea (but has just been repulsed) and Nationalist China invaded the Liaoning Peninsula. Meanwhile in Europe the war started a bit early but Ireland and Finland joined the allies. Now historically Finland...sure possible but Ireland? WTF? With regards to Kaftan I would recommend you put the game off for a month and wait for this giant mess of bugs and performance issues to be sorted out, as of now it's just not worth the time and effort. Hearts of Iron is ultimately an enthusiast game because unless you role play your country so that you play the game realistically it's too easy to just cheese your way through the game. Such as playing Soviet Union and make 500 infantry divisions and then just throwing them at Europe. The German AI in the previous games was never good enough to actually push you back to the gates of Moscow. I would always place all my divisions at the gates of Moscow and just let the Germans eat up most of European Russia for role playing purposes.
  6. This thread brings back so many memories and makes me nostalgic. Hard to believe Starcraft was 11 years ago, Warcraft 2 even more so and I been playing games for so long. I would nominate Netstorm a multiplayer puzzle like RTS that was far ahead of its time and Heavy Gear 2, one of my favourite games of all time. Those of you who remember Heavy Gear 1 might remember it was total crap they did a heck'uv of a job on the sequel, integrating first person shooting, traditional mech warrior customization, and overhead tactical map for squad combat. It was one of the first games I remember where the AI wasn't garbage and the single player campaign was very memorable.
  7. I am on a dual core 6400+ with 2 gigs of ram and its really slow for me. It might have to do with the fact I have a widescreen monitor so I always use widescreen resolutions, otherwise the picture gets stretched.
  8. I am having severe slow downs, the game is unplayable for me right now because 1 hour in game takes like 10 seconds even on the fastest setting, and this is in 1936 I am afraid to think of what will happen in '41. Also there is apparently a bug with consumer spending that makes large nations unplayable, in my game Guangxi Clique has taken over Taiwan and Okinawa in '38 because the Japanese AI is totally destroyed by this problem. I think I am going to have to wait for another patch before things are cleared up. Also there are extremely severe errors in the world map. Stalingrad is in the wrong place, the Wakhan Corridor is under UK control which means Russia and UK border one another in Central Asia, Southern Ontario is messed up, the shape of China is all wrong, the Manchurian border should run along the Amur but they totally screwed up the curvature of the river so Heilongjiang province now has a some bizarre shape, also USSR has no border with Korea, instead Manchuria has access to the Sea of Japan, Sakhalin is not divided properly between USSR and Japan, etc, etc, etc. Some of these are cosmetic but others like Stalingrad in the wrong place needs to be fixed. And what the hell is wrong with the colors? I can barely tell some countries apart all the colors are too light. I don't understand why they did such a bad job on the map when all their maps in their previous games were pretty good. I haven't had a good look at the whole map yet but judging by the posts on the Paradox forums the situation is pretty awful.
  9. I am sure the first CORE mod will fix a lot of issues the die hard fans have.
  10. Problem is, in vanilla ARMA, CHC is pretty much neglected by the devs as far as events go. A CHC game I played with MOD34 (or was it 33?) was one of the most I enjoyed. Getting events like Long March, formation of popular armies, etc... really changes things. HOI2 was very accessible to strategy n00bs... but I only found this out after I discovered an AAR that explained every single thing in great detail. Think Fall Wei
  11. Probably don't want to do that Tannu Tuva gets annexed in '44 by Soviet Union.
  12. All this DRM is useless nowadays pirated games are so efficient and rips such high quality it doesn't matter. If you pirate you pirate, if you don't you don't. More DRM isn't going to make piracy more difficult and thereby less people pirating because everyone is going to rips nowadays instead of downloading a big fat 8 gig iso and then having to deal with DRM you can just download a highly compressed cracked rip less then half that size that plays "out of the box". Its not even fair to call it a rip anymore since nothing is taken out of the game not even cutscenes. The only selling point of games then becomes multiplayer.
  13. It doesn't matter what any of us thinks about it, we are all going to play it as soon as it comes out. Just look at the hype on this forum by itself.
  14. Everytime I play a knew HOI I always play Communist China first and see if I can win. I've only done it once and that involved cheating on my part, mostly because the U.S. AI sucks ass and never beats Japan, which forces you to win on the continent. This is also useful just for seeing how the computer plays out the game in Europe and the Pacific, since you basically sit still and do nothing until '38, '39.
  15. I just hope he doesn't pull a Wheel of Time on us and croak first.
  16. Dark Age England, with a slight toss of magic, ****ty romances, long drawn and overly descriptive narrations of food, and dragons. Someone once said it was like War of the Roses take that for what its worth. That said it's pretty good, I read all the books in one week when I first got a hold of them.
  17. Dead Space was definitely scary at the start but rapidly became less so later on. The easiest way to make any game scarier is headphones. I replayed Dead Space with headphones on and it became much scarier even though I knew where all "booo" moments were.
  18. 30 minutes into Jade Empire I realized it wasn't a RPG, so I became very disappointed from thereon in.
  19. Dragon Age, Modern Warfare 2 in terms of immediate releases along with Hearts of Iron 3. I won't be able to play anything until the Christmas holiday however as I will be too swamped with work.
  20. The problem with 4chan is it has gotten way too popular these days. A couple years ago the 4chan demographic was mostly college students and the site was not even well known on the internet. Nowadays everyone and their mothers knows about 4chan and the demographic has shifted down to as young as middle school kids. If you ever walk into a college these days the proliferation of memes such as "failed", "i haz it", and so forth is rampant, this trend even extends down to high schools and maybe even below. This naturally mirrored the downward spiral of the random board /b/, that and the popularization of 4chan into wider society has lead to all the recent stupidity such as scientology raids, real life 4chan meeting, increased usage of tripcodes (that is users who consistently post using an unique name, generally to troll or to cam whore). Nowadays there is a whole generation growing up who think they are edgy and avant-garde to surf on 4chan. 4chan really just needs to turn on force anonymity, permanently ban every single trip code user and get rid of the /b/ board at least for a while because /b/ makes up the vast majority of 4chan traffic.
  21. I couldn't get away with not using 4chan, its a very easy way to kill time for me when I am not busy and can't commit to playing video games. /b/ has been crap for a long time but the rest of the board is quite good, and this will absolutely not go down well.
  22. The thing about press is one should always have a variety of sources I typically read a combination of yahoo news, New York Times, Economist, BBC, Guardian for news and Center for Strategic and International Studies along with Strategic Studies Institute of the U.S. Army War College for my news feed, this along with a couple of forums where people regularly post news articles.
  23. I think it was more a satire of himself real or fictional is another question.
  24. I just upgraded my computer last december I wasn't even aware AMD had quad cores at the time. If I was I probably would have bite the bullet and forked over the money.
  25. I just noticed that the recommend requirements says you need a quad core cpu, what the hell?
