Ok but Bethesda has a lot more money for QA testers than Obsidian, you can't just say "it's a more complicated game to make so it doesn't count" and as I pointed out earlier Bethesda just never fixed many of the bugs in skyrim. Modders had to do it, if they can do it then bethesda can. CDPR is a little different i guess as they were also relatively small, though that isn't the case now.

The game wasn't broken, it had some annoying bugs but was completely stable for the vast majority of players. Witcher3 was broken on release, POE2 was also more or less broken on release, KCD was incredibly broken on release but all those games sold brilliantly. Skyrim was incredibly buggy on release and still has some of it's vanilla bugs despite multiple dlc, re-releases and a special edition. That's pretty much the most successful well known rpg ever. Obs really messed up with Kotor2 and Fallout New Vagas but the bugs in this game were about what you would expect in a large rpg on release. That still isn't good enough IMO but you can say that about so many games. I feel like it's the case that because of those two games now they are stuck with the reputation of releasing buggy games even when they aren't that buggy compared to what other much bigger developers release.

Poe had more large areas and bigger dungeons for the most part but a lot of those were mostly just trash mobs. There were whole areas in POE that were just trash mobs. Deadfire has a lot less of that and you can avoid many of the less important fights if you wish. This is why people aren't agreeing. You spent more time fighting through every area in POE than you do in deadfire. The main quest in POE is also longer but then deadfire has much more side content. So yeah deadfire is bigger than Poe but not bigger than Poe + expansions.

yeah as I said I am pretty sure there was always a wheel it's just the game doesn't properly explain it. So it isn't a retcon just an unfortunate descision to cut main story content. I really don't get it, those scenes go on and on and are full of fluff writing that is nice to listen to once but really isn't needed. Why didn't they just cut down the word count rather than just cutting out important parts of these scenes?

When you learn what Eothas is going to do the gods speculate on whether or not Kith will be able to rebuild the wheel. This implies that the wheel is needed for life to go on so there must have always been a wheel. The engwithans just broke it to create their new wheel which is needed to sustain the gods. Every time a soul goes through the wheel it loses some of itself and the gods feed off of this energy. So Eothas hopes Kith will be able to restore the old wheel I guess.

as far i understand it... there was a naturally occurring system in place, not entirely sure if it involved a less organized reincarnation system, or if new souls were created, born into bodies, lived life, died, passed on to some afterlife never to return. etc. when the engwithans placed their new system on top of it, nature adapted to the new system, and perhaps the new engwithan cycle even involved elements of the natural one... well, whatever the case, the old natural one is apparently no longer capable of functioning on its own. for whatever reason, thanks to the egnwithan's interference. or that's about my take on it.

While I don't think metascore's really matter much I will say that no I don't think it's "that bad". Critics over praised it but the over praise a lot of games, they over praised the first one too. It has simmilar main plot issues to the first IMO but they are just worse here probably due to even less focus being placed on that main plot. The rest of the game I would say for the most part is better.

Aloth really took writing a hit he seems uptight and pointless most of the time now, he can still be entertaining sometimes though. Eder is just Eder, I like him but he hasn't developed at all if anything he has regressed. Pallegina I really liked in the first game and I still like her in this one probably more than the others. However the VTC cheerleeder thing seems so game mechanics over plot, she was never like that before and has no reason to be now other than because of the factions and relationship system. I think her atheism makes sense though and I liked how for example she clashes with tekehu but then learns the error of her ways ect. It's cute. Xoti I liked at first but her character seems to go nowhere, it annoys me that I have no choice to reveal the true nature of the gods to her. Feel like her quest could have revolved around that. Choosing to tell her or not to tell her, how she reacts, whether or not she comes to terms with it based on your relationship with her ect. Instead of the lantern thing. Tekehu is the opposite of Xoti, annoying at first but he develops really well and I ended up liking him a lot. He's like a more interesting Kana. Maia was one of the companions I was most interested in when origionally announced but to be honest I find her a bit weird, she's kind of a dark character that pretends not to be but idk if writing really goes anywhere with that. I think I need to try a character who uses her more though before I can really judge though. Serefan is probably the most fun but also a little one dimensional. Sidekicks in my opinion aren't worth the unique appearence and portrait they come with but Ydwin, Rekke, Fassina and Mirke are all great templates for companions it's just a shame that they don't have much content. Big hands guy I don't get, is he there just so there can be a dwarf companion?

I do agree that some of the criticism of the plot in this game is unfair and or over the top. Like the lack of urgency and the "why are you doing side quests?" problem exists in so many rpgs. Doesn't mean it can't be criticized here but I think it is probably always going to be a problem for games like this and I like games like this so I am fine with just coming up with my own explainations most of the time. On the other hand I am confused as to why Obsidian did not tie the factions into the main plot more when there were so many oppertunities to do so. It wouldn't require much to be changed and would really improve many of the issue with this plot and leanthen the main quest by making some of the faction quests to some extent part of the main quest. Simple things like removing that scene upon entering Neketaka and making you work to progress the story. Why do all these people want to hire you? Oh because you are a watcher apparently and . Maybe you need a reputation first, or just something before these people will talk to you and trust you with their secrets. Their help will then help you progress the story. Maybe you actually do need to find luminous audra pillars to track Eothas? Maybe you aren't just immediately told where the important ones are and where to go next. It wouldn't fix all the problems with the plot but it would help make everything your character does seem more important and more driven by your choices rather than the writers just pulling you along in the direction they want.

Good to remember that POE has such a high peak because it had just under 75k backers. So all those people plus anyone who baught the game on release had just gained access on it for that first weekend resulting in that 41k player peak. Deadfire had about half the ammount of backers POE did so it could be selling similar to the first one and still not acheiving as high of a peak. D:OS has pretty much the same peak and that game sold fine. Then again Deadfire's chart position on steam bestsellers since release doesn't imply the game is doing amazingly, it's hard to say for sure. It's perfectly possible that it is doing ok enough though.

I do kinda wish they would just have said from the beginning which godlike is associated with which god. It seems common knowledge to everyone in Eora world but we only get to find out if someone specifically mentions it. It's interesting that Ondra has two types of godlike, I wonder if Tekehu is the only Marine godlike.

I don't think the problem with the main quest is the open world at all. It's just not a very exciting main quest. Also the Valian words mostly work as embellishments to dialogue like you don't actually need to know what they mean. It's also pretty obvious what most of the words mean as the Vailian language is mostly just itallian with a few changes here and there.

I agree that criticism of those lines and their implementation was not inherently transphobic, plenty of people including many trans people took issue with them but I think the fact that it became this massive deal had something to do with transphobia. The focus on that was a lot bigger than the focus on Minsc literally trashing gamergate in the game for example. A lot of people who may not activly hate women and minorities have this kneejerk reaction to their inclusion as anything other than some kind of spectacle that caters to the perspective of straight white cisgendered men. I'm saying this as a person who was involved in GG, I know a lot of these people. They aren't all evil woman haters from the 4chan. That was always a lie but there is certainly a lot of transphobia in that community, both concious and subconcious.

Sure but once again anti sjws are hyperfocused on the issues with female and minority characters specifically. I've heard this about so many games, "oh the lgbt character is a steriotype, the female character is badly written ect" added into the same rant about how the presence of lgbt characters and women in positions of power prove some kind of conspircy by the devs to push feminism or whatever. It's utterly transparent lets not pretend this was about wanting more realistic female/lgbt/whatever representation, it was not. Also what steriotype are you talking about in reference to bisexual people? Is it the one where bi characters are often portrayed as being inherantly promiscuous because this game has bi characters who are promiscuous and bi characters who are not, so how is that a problem?

I can understand criticism of Bioware and some other companies for their hamfisted attempts at pushing social justice causes in some of their games, I still think a lot of it is overblown/silly criticism but I understand it. This though I don't get it, like the first pillars actually upset some of social justice twitter for the way it dealt with mental illness. I'm not seeing much in the way of politicing in this game at all. Is not catering to the mastabetory fantasies of a certain group of players when writing female characters really some kind of political statement?
-
I would love to see you present this rant about the women in the game to some of these female co-workers and bosses you have. "How dare the gay character, (who is actually bi) not be afraid of straight men reacting with gay pannic. " I wouldn't go there mate and I am glad Obs didn't Tekehu is not perfect, that's kind of the point of him.
