  1. I get all options greyed out. How were you able to download it? Edit: Okay, I fixed it. Turns out that if you still have the Fig edition, you ought to go to www.gog.com/account/refresh, and that should update the game to its downloadable state. At least, it worked for me.
  2. Reviews are starting to come in... http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/pillars-of-eternity-ii-deadfire So far, pretty good. Though it seems like it'll be ranking lower than its predecessor when all is said and done.
  3. My "install" button on GOG is still greyed out. Too soon?
  4. True, I tried having my cat read his posts to engage in the debate but I think human writing just confused him.
  5. Gellarde! well done. A formidable RPG in the old style. They don't build them like this anymore, you know. Not by the mainstream. Too niche for the publishers. You brilliant postenago, you!
  6. Not looking up for other relevant threads on the subject, that's just lazy: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/97171-josh-says-path-of-the-damned-difficulty-will-be-too-easy-on-launch-because-he-didnt-have-time-to-tune-it/
  7. Trusting Obsidian is really your own prerogative. From what we know from regards to bug-squashing, they've taken an extra month to resolve several bugs and generally iron out the game before release, and from what I've seen in the streams things seem to be alright on that front (I would suggest that, if you don't mind spoilers and are feeling a little on the fence about all this, go ahead and check out some of the recent streams for the game as they might give you a better idea of what to expect). With regards to the MCA thing, there's another thread covering that already which you ought to check out if these allegations and so on bother you, and whatever happened happened before the development of Deadfire (if I'm not mistaken he left whilst the expansions were being developed) so it should have had no real impact on the game (beyond relying on one less, admittedly great, writer).
  8. While I agree with you, I'd like to note that when a game has 5 difficulty settings, any complaint about the highest setting(POTD) being too hard should be ignored, If someone is not up to it, he has 4 other settings to choose from. But If POTD is too easy then the hardore crowd is left with nothing. Didn't the first game only allow you to pick PotD at the start of a playthrough, and lock you into it for the rest of that playthrough? Whilst I agree with what you say, I reckon that given that inflexibility the complaint might have some validity when it may force you to restart the game 60 hours into it. Still I agree all in all that the hardest mode being too easy is undoubtedly the bigger problem.
  9. An absolute 100% run isn't possible lest you edit the files to allow faction cross-over, since there's one quest per faction that can only be completed following that faction (at least, this is the case to the best of my understanding). But this sort of cross-over is pretty minimal, and you can still complete about 97% of the game's content in a single playthrough otherwise.
  10. Being able to turn down sex would be an excellent option, yes. And if the NPC offering then decided they didn't want a romantic relationship without sex, that would be a perfectly valid (and realistic) response. But I've never seen a game which included an exchange like that. At best, you can turn down immediate sexy times, but with the expectation that they'll happen later. Ah, I see the distinction you're making. I do think I've seen games that allowed you to carry out a romantic relationship whilst turning sex down, but it's true that the underlying assumption is more "not right now" than "not interested in sex, period". To the best of my memory there's also a few games that involved romance without actually involving sex, or even physical contact - Planescape: Torment for one, where you can develop a romance of sorts with Fall-From-Grace but herself being a succubus means the affair's inevitably forced to be platonic and so on (Annah's does involve a kiss however); likewise Safiya's in Mask of the Betrayer I think never involved actual sex. Interestingly these are some of the romances I've enjoyed the most in the medium.
  11. This. AND have NPCs tease the PC for his failure to get in on the action. What "IS" a Watcher, really? Maybe the PC is just into Voyeurism. Yeah and then the teasing would be odd if the PC's asexual. Wouldn't asexuality in the game be included by the sheer ability for the player to turn down a romantic advance though? Or for a companion to not be interested in a romance? Being asexual doesn't preclude others from being attracted to you, so I don't think it'd change much about how other characters would act towards the character in question.
  12. Doesn't sound to me like that would be much of an improvement. Over what?
  13. Not that it necessarily relates to the above, but it should be mentioned that not two months ago he wasn't sure who'd designed the PoE2 story either: https://twitter.com/ChrisAvellone/status/973664127120887808 Wooooooooooooooooooooooow........................... Er, I'm not sure how to interpret that post, but anyhow I'll clarify that it could certainly be that he got that story from another source, like a friend/contact of his that still works on Obsidian, and not because he's pretending that he's following the development of Deadfire really closely or anything of the sort. But still, it's worth pointing out because it does beg the question as to how he arrived to that particular bit of info.

  15. You should still be able to run the game, since that is only regarding recommended specs, not minimum. Still, you might have to dump quality a little - I might too (my card is a 4GB GTX 760, not sure if better or worse than the 960).
  16. Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but for those who might want to sneak a peek at the game and can't because they're at work, there will be some early access streams on Saturday and Sunday, courtesy of DistractedElf and bluejay: https://twitter.com/DistractedElf/status/992174323388506112 https://www.twitch.tv/distractedelf https://twitter.com/bluejay_712/status/992077906074468352 https://www.twitch.tv/bluejay
  17. It's ok. At least when you compare them to Stinky Pete: What the... Stinky Pete, a *cat*? I've never known a dirty cat. That's just wrong to me.
  18. What do you mean? They all seem like nice life-loving sweethearts in that thread!
  19. The Pike portrait also had a minor revision in the last few days. Must have been one heck of a weekend to come back with a scar like that. https://twitter.com/taclane/status/991012640435523584 Apparently the scar is one worn by the actual character though.
  20. I admit that, whilst I get the general gist of health/endurance, I am confused about some of the specifics regarding the system. I recall half-way through the latest Pillars playthrough to note how, upon being struck with a dragon breath or landing on a particularly powerful trap, my character not only got knocked out but also saw their health depleted all the way down to a 20% of their maximum in a single strike, and this is something I assumed could not happen since I'd assumed endurance would act as the damage you could actually receive, and health merely as a pool for endurance points - if you got knocked out, you wouldn't take more damage beyond your actual endurance. But that's not the case, and that's not explained too well. I think it's details like these that probably caused the confusion more so than the general gist of it. Likewise another trap I fell into often was assuming "health" spoke about "endurance". I recall using Barring Death's Door the first time assuming it spoke of endurance, i.e. you couldn't be knocked out for the duration of the spell, but on closer examination it merely meant you couldn't *die*. I guess this is because the usual game terminology has made it so that a character's hit-points are usually known as or associated with "health" and so when one reads "health" one usually thinks of what Pillars calls "endurance" instead of what it calls health. I also reckon it's things like these that made the system seem "complicated" or, rather, "confusing" or "unintuitive" to others, assuming it's a common occurence with others (I fully admit that this example is on me, being that I misread the spell and so on).
  21. I can understand direct competition if both games are released within a close enough date to one another since that likely implies that, at least initially, most players will likely opt for one game to play or purchase if they can't do both (even if they could later on)... But it's been months since Divinity: Original Sin 2 came out, so that already doesn't apply. Moreover, I agree with the above and have always thought of the above assumption to be really strange, considering I've heard many more people claiming they'd like to see *more* like whatever artistic products they've consumed and loved more so than feeling one rendered all others obsolete. No doubt people into the IE games want *more* games like the IE games, not less - likewise people who are really into Pillars or D:OS would likely want more like eachother. To use yet another example, upon watching a film like The Godfather I don't assume all crime sagas are in turn made obsolete - I won't all of a sudden assume something like Goodfellas won't have anything to offer to me. Chances are I'll want to check it out all the more. I would reckon that if there is any competition as such it's more along the lines of "we have to be the leading RPG series, and right now this other is claiming the throne", but that doesn't mean you'll do things like the other: when Josh said something along the lines of "seeing the D:OS 2 reviews lights a fire under us", he probably didn't mean "we have to be like D:OS 2" but rather "we must work harder on what we have to deliver an even better game". I.e. moral inspiration more so than direct artistic influence (though hey, there's likely a bit of the latter too but that's just normal whenever you play some other game, look at what they offer and consider that this aspect or that might be a neat idea you didn't think of for your personal project).
