  1. 1. Gods are not reliable narrators, as they have an agenda of their own. 2. The Wheel predates the Engwithan gods. It's a natural, amoral, uncontrolled process. 3. The Engwithan Wheel gives the gods control over reincarnation and thus over the long-term fate of the kith. Imagine Woedica using Thaos without that kind of control. The first two are assumptions / conjectures. The game isn't clear on any of this now due to the Deadfire retcons to the PoE lore / story / Eora world so we shouldn't pretend to know what we don't. You just have to chalk it up to terrible story explanation / design regarding this matter as it's causing enormous confusion, and this is not new to Obsidian. 1) Possibly, but we don't know if they're lying, and it doesn't make sense for game designers to have the gods just lie and confuse us regarding fundamental lore of the game. The retcon basically now says after the wheel is destroyed the cycle of reincarnation will stop and eventually everything will become hollowborn and life / gods will all die after the 'reservoir' of souls dries up. So perhaps that isn't true, but it directly contradicts PoE1. 2) Possibly, but perhaps not. Perhaps there was a finite source of souls even in ancient times and it would have ran out if the Engwithans didn't create a wheel to alter it. Also, perhaps the Engwithans permanently altered the natural process once they created the wheel.
  2. so what happens at a mutiny? You either give them what they demand or fight them? So you fight them and slaughter your own crew basically?
  3. @thelee Is this true what Witness said? If so, you should add this to your OP. Witness said: Your OP said that PL provides accuracy bonuses. So does power level affect the accuracy for debuff spells / abilities or not?
  4. Since when does a game balance for solo? If they do, props to them, but we shouldn't expect this. You can just make the argument that these are OP items in general, because they are, with exception to the 5 engage one, which is unlikely to happen all the time in solo play if you just go into a choke point. Or is it 'threatened' and not engaged?
  5. If I'm already power level 9 and I have effects / abilities that increase my power level for certain skills / spells, do I benefit from them and get to power level 12, 15, etc? Is there a cap?
  6. How do you map an ability to QWER or Z? Edit: nevermind, just press the key you want to hotkey the ability or spell to as you hover over it. If it's not already assigned it will allow it.
  7. alphabet hotkeys really aren't reliable I figure the best way to go about things is to setup a complex AI for each character so you don't have to micro as much.
  8. Description: I cannot select some of my characters using 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 on my keyboard, both on the main keyboard and the number pad. This was not an issue until after patch 1.02 was installed. I first couldn’t select 1, and 2-5 worked. Then later I couldn’t select 1 and 3, but the others still worked. It's frustrating and I'm hoping you can help me resolve it. Steps to Reproduce the Issue: I had patch 1.01, installed patch 1.02, and then the problem happened. I have tried altering the settings, restarting my pc, re-installing the game, unplug / plugin my keyboard and starting a new game and the problem persists. I checked the keyboard with other apps and it appears to be working just fine. 9. You have to move the mouse and click two-three times to do any ability that requires targeting. That is extremely annoying considering how often you need to do this for five characters. I don't recall PoE I combat to be so tedious, but maybe it was? Am I missing something painfully 'obvious' here? Is there anyway I can just hotkey the abilities and spells of my characters so I don't have to spend 90% of my combat is pause mode? I'm getting to the point where I just want to auto attack as much as possible or completely rely on the AI with exception to my main character and perhaps priest.
  10. I have no idea how this happened, but I restarted my computer and reset all settings to default and I still can't get this to go away and it's very frustrating. I cannot select my characters using the 1, 2, 3, etc. on my keyboard, both on the main keyboard and the number pad. Anyone else experience this or have any idea in how to fix this?
  11. The game is very buggy. So far three have very much limited my gaming experience: 1) Some problem with making it fullscreen (recent patch seemed to have fixed this) 2) Mouse clicks not working (workaround fixed this, but spent time researching it...) 3) Now I can't even press 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., to select characters...I mean wtf It's obvious the Product Owner rushed this out before it was ready or they lack decent QA and beta testing. I still will rate it good, because so far it's great, but this is annoying, even for an initial release.
  12. I had this same problem, I disabled Steam overlay completely, restarted the game, and it seems to be working fine now.
  13. I used to do a build similar to this but I think that dedicating a race and two talents / items (Quickswitch, Arms Bearer + Coil of Resourcefulness) just for two or three gun shots with weapons that don't benefit from your weapon focus just isn't very efficient. The burst of Focus is nice though so I can definitely see why people like it, but the Cipher is desperate for talents, and as the game progresses gaining focus really isn't difficult. Maybe it's good to start with a build like this but change it near the end. Wood Elf is just a better race for ranged builds in my opinion, that is if you can create the space for them most of the time. The Outlander's Frenzy talent is great until you get Time Parasite. There are better belts than Coil of Resourcefulness that you would rather use if you could. The same goes for Quickswitch / Arms Bearer talent. If you really want to go guns then just going a Blunderbuss / Arquebus Cipher with a supporting Chanter by your side would probably make more sense. But again, the talents are tough to come by, and you have to squeeze in Gunner somehow.
  14. Yeah..I don't know. I need to do some more testing with the game. I just did a playthrough which included a Barb and Fighter who both went two-handed style. The Fighter went Estocs and eventually ended with the Endless Paths blade. The Barb went Greatswords and eventually landed with the Hours of St. Rumbalt. The fighter did more damage in the playthrough (way more than I expected since I used Fighters only as tanks in the past) but the barb was catching up at the end. I didn't feel the two-handers were weak but I think that dual-wielding can produce better results, we'll see.
  15. Thanks, that's a shame. Having a shield is a good enough benefit in and of itself, even if it's a small shield. And the sword and shield style is a very nice talent. But I think they should have an auto-bonus for two-handers.
  16. Using a one-handed weapon with no shield provides an innate +12 ACC. Using two weapons provides an innate 50% recovery time decrease. Is there a innate bonus for using two-handed weapons? And while we're at it, is there an innate bonus for using a one-handed weapon and shield? And no, I don't mean "well, two-handed weapons have more base damage" or "you get to use a shield, duh!" I mean bonuses like that of using two weapons or only one weapon. Anyone know?
  17. @MaxQuest I don't see Hastening Exhortation on the list of attack speed buffs. Does that stack with anything?
  18. @MaxQuest So now that you have such vast knowledge of all these mechanics can you provide us with any general takeaways or practical advice on how we can take advantage of this information? I understand that the mechanics are deep and there are plenty of nuance situations that could arise based on this knowledge, as well as certain exceptions, but generally speaking, how can we play the game better knowing this stuff? Example Questions: I have heard that gunners and crossbowers should go with heavy armor because the negative armor effect on the overall action cycle is negligible. But after I read your data though it seems that the armor penalty affects all aspects of the action cycle so is this true or not Are there any bash shields in the game that are actually worth it from a DPS perspective? Since it's so much easier to get zero recovery with a dual-wield build even with plate than the two-handed counterpart does that mean two-handers usually lose in the DPS game? Do veterans of this game, generally speaking, seem to believe that getting a zero recovery build on your DPS is more important than anything else? What are the easiest builds to hit zero recovery without the use of DAoM? Thanks in advance.
  19. How often does Combusting Wounds proc? It says 5 damage over time for x seconds, but is it every second or every 5 seconds or what?
