Way to bypass unreachable stash
Oralaina replied to lowest0ne's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
I think maybe it was that he wound up with the items in his inventory, where they then would be available to him in the wilderness adventuring. There are several merchants in the wilderness, so that might be cause for tightening up the way selling/buying back works? Not sure - but I'd have to be awfully hard up for something to sell it, then buy it back since you have to pay so much more for it that way! -
Ugh. Thanks, I appreciate the info. There are reasons I live where I do - the cleanest air and water in the lower 48, the cheapest power.... and NO NEIGHBORS. But damn.... also no unlimited data. Well, at the least, I'll live to 120 because of the local environment.... Of course, because of the way husband has "managed" things.... I won't have the money to eat or play games.... *SIGH* @aweigh0101: I wish there were physical disks. I'd be perfectly happy to wait a while to play, if the latest content was available on physical media. Of course I'd love to just download/stream/play whatever whenever - but I can't. The situation I have is not only NOT optimal - it's the ONLY one I have . And it costs me $90 US a month. I'm literally a prisoner of where I live, when it comes to the internet.

Pillars of balancing
Oralaina replied to brindle88's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah I seriously hope the "if" in this sentence is just a red herring. I would love to see a Pillars 2 and if it needs to go to kickstarter for funding you just shoot me the link the day it goes live. I and many others will be happy to put our money where our mouth is once more. No one (of my fairly extended gaming family, some of whom not only knew of this game and kickstarter but also provided funds) bothered to let me know about this. I would have done a decent amount had I known. I know now.... and by goddess, I'll be looking at the ability to kickstart for the next game. -
Eh.... that was.... confusing. Are you saying the steam patch is only about 300 megs? That's doable. The previous patch was a lot more than that.... I should probably explain. My only "broadband" connection is wildblue satband. I'm severely limited as to download bw - SEVERELY. So things in the vicinity of several gigs - well.... it's not a good thing. A few hundred megs.... it's okay. More or less. I live 40 miles from the nearest "real" broadband - but in order to have that service extended here, over 1k of us would have to pony up $2.5k US. Well.... there are only a hundred of us who live here, and I'm the ONLY one who plays games so would be willing (and able...) to pay. So it's not happening in my lifetime.... And no - the other few people who live here do not have any interest in streaming etc. If they did they'd do so where they live "full time". Which is NOT here.

I'd have to say.... well, I wouldn't want a PC paladin. I like the less tanky sorts - rangers mostly. Rogues maybe, though I started a playthrough with one, and dropped it only a few game days in, just didn't like her very well (could be my own fault for not constructing her properly *shrug*). I used to (in PnP days) always PC a half-elven mage - but that's not really possible in this game - so rangers work for me so far. Now, I *might* think about this build for a "hireling pally". Because the resistance issues do plague me....

I have a couple of questions. 1. How big is the download appx? I'll be using Steam. Steam doesn't tell you how big something is BEFORE it starts the process. 2. If I don't download this update now, will WM2 include any updates since 2.02?

Eh, I get busy.... so that's okay. Body parts crossed (that's a LOT more than fingers.....) [And I'm not downloading 2.03 yet anyway - for the main thing, I don't have the bandwidth available. I'm a hostage to satband....] -

Pillars of balancing
Oralaina replied to brindle88's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
@Gairnulf - excellent points all. The first run through (wasn't complete since I realized about halfway in that I was going to want a full party of my own girls), the first couple of times I got something that was a really nice upgrade in the way of gear/weapons, I was happy. About halfway through chapter 1, I was like 'oh, it's another *whatever* - no real upgrade' and it lived in the inventory forever. And actually that was one of the things which prompted me to make my own 5 extras: some really nice gear being unused. It's just honestly "too much of a good thing" - kind of like baklava.... -
To craft or not to craft...
Oralaina replied to daver's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I like crafting - though in WoW in the past and currently in Rift HAVING to craft to have quasi-decent gear is kind of a deal breaker for me: my lag is so bad that gearing "normally" - through grouping for instances/dungeons - was never an option (not to mention that I just don't LIKE messing with groups of people I don't know....) While crafting in games like those started out as fun, by level 90 in WoW I was sick of it, ditto level 65 in Rift - and at that point I quit crafting and just buy stuff others make (because by those levels I have GAZOOLAS of gold or plat, so *shrug*). I don't craft much in PoE - there's not much real need to do so until you get Durgan steel. The gear you "find" is certainly usable as is though I do throw some enchants on it - might as well use up all those mats after all! At least in this game you don't have to make the gear itself.... I would feel pretty odd in a game without crafting.... -

@Gs11: the pink textures are caused by not applying the available patches in a particular sequence IIRC. I don't have this issue myself, because I use steam/windows. IIRC there are a number of threads around addressing how you should patch for mac/linux using steam/gog or manual, and you should be reading those to fix your issues. Adding an editor into the mix at this point is NOT going to help your situation, and might actually cause your entire install to become corrupted/unplayable. You need to search for threads on "pink textures" and follow the recommends of the devs who replied. -
Lighthouse story/rant
Oralaina replied to Wald0's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Yes I encountered them in Caed Nua but there was no ambush mechanic, and neither with the shades in the gilded vale dungeon as well. You can't get out of the lighthouse room once combat starts. I did shadow beyond away from my knocked out party members to see if the shades would stop hovering over them and return to their original position, but no. It's over. That's my point, there was zero chance for me to continue playing as soon as I enetered as there was no way I could have known, and no way to escape. Don't feel bad though, I already have a new game started on potd but no trial of iron. Trial of iron means one chance, I get that and I understood when I started my game. Unfortunately, I guess i'll have to playthrough first to know where to avoid these "no chance" encounters, at least until my level is high enough. I just thought its a low move having all those enemies appear instantly. There have always been "cheesy" tactics devs have put in place. This is one of them, and even though I have no interest in ToI or PotD personally, I think it stinks that they would put in place a mechanic (the locked doors) which makes it impossible for someone to break out of combat in a WAY over-weighted fight. The only thing that needed to happen there is for just the door to the stairs being locked; the main door should not have been locked, since it still would have still been a huge effort to get to it - but not impossible. ToI and PotD should be extremely hard, but not impossible due to one mechanic. -
I'm the complete opposite. I not only love to replay games like this (I'm STILL replaying Oblivion and Skyrim for cats'sakes!), I love to tweak and re-tweak party structure and such. I'm always RPing a story in my head (practically NEVER the one that "comes with the game"), and each bunch of girls is different like that too. I got into this late enough to know that WM was coming so I'm just not completing the first part of the game until WM part 2 lands. I'm lucky - those of you who don't have a save even, well, I do feel sorry for you for sure!

Yeah, I didn't mean IE Mod lets you bind to anyone. Once you've bound the weapon to someone, however, it allows you to force the upgrade conditions without actually having to kill all the mobs etc. So if you found a way to bind the staff to your priest, but then it didn't seem to be doing the right "upgrade path", you could do THAT with IE Mod. Good luck with it. I'm assuming the reason the weapons are class-limited the way they are may have something to do with WM part 2, but that's just a "baseless" assumption on my part probably.

Salty Mast scenes fade to black?

I remember the online uproar about the hookers in BG 1 - good LORD. Much ado about nothing....
