  1. Looks like sig material to me...
  2. Except for Robert Langdon and other cerebral literary heroes.
  3. A while ago I started a game design based on real world knowledge. It was mostly an adventure game and I got my inspiration from Indiana Jones(the movies) and Tomb Raider(the games). The idea was exploring caves, ruins and catacombs and solving puzzles. When a puzzle failed, traps would be sprung and action ensued. The puzzle were all based on real world enigmas and traps that were found in real life excavations and the game forced the player to use google and wiki in order to find the information necessary to solve the puzzles. My goal was to make a game that was both full of action and educational at the same time, aimed at the 17-30 year olds. I was unable to find enough traps/puzzle ideas and I noticed that the whole thing was too much like my inspiration material... But there was no killing involved, not even firearms. Meh.
  4. @Tarna Sorry dude, because of your avatar I thought you were a lady. Also, I forgot to mention Arx Fatalis. AF is a FPRPG in the classic tradition of Ultima Underworld, from which it took its inspiration. It is an open-ended underground world but nowhere as non-linear as ES titles. Oh and you cast spells by drawing on the screen with the cursor. Very good game but a bit buggy.
  5. What would you propose to a developper then? If not violence to keep the player interested, in a RPG, then what? Perhaps something similar to Indigo Prophecy? Avoiding damage and running away by pushing buttons? You'd get xp by completing the sequence, some skills making various types of sequences easier maybe. Hmm...
  6. I love cats and this made me sad.
  7. Whatever. <_< I enjoyed it, others have as well and she may also. She may also choose something else. Suggestions propose choices. I didn't like the Divinity games too much. They were enjoyable but I never finished them because I got bored and went to a FPS or something. But she may like them alot, who knows and that's why I proposed them. There are other RPGs out there that don't use the Infinity/Aurora engines.
  8. Isn't it your job, you know... as a mod?
  9. Hi, I'm Astr0. Pleased to meet you.
  10. Side note: Rez, as a game, is amazing. :D
  11. I'll try proposing other games besides the usual... Anachronox: Lengthy JRPG-type for the PC. A bit old but still pretty and a lot of fun. Built with the Q3 engine if I remember correctly. Summoner: First on PS2 it was ported to PC soon after. Not too bad but controls are a bit clunky. Good story. Gothic 1: I prefered this one over the second. Controls need some getting used to but once you do it's a very enjoyable game. Very good story and level up scheme. Gothic 2: Longer than the first, massive actually. With dragonslaying. Divine Divinity: Diablo + Baldur's Gate hybrid. Need I say more? Pretty good story too. Beyond Divinity: Follow-up to Divine. Same kind of game but deeper. Starforce included. Wizardry 8: Simply one of the best, most under-appreciated CRPGs ever. Beautiful graphics, great story, fantastic voice-overs, realy good NPCs. The only downside to this game is the combat. Not that it's bad, just very hard(like 40-50 leveled oppponents against your 6 party members hard...). It also has the infamous Fantasy/Sci-Fi mix. All these are 50+ hours each and have nothing to do with D&D except some inspiration. They're also all cheap now. You may also want to try Fable: The Lost Chapters. It looks good and is quite fun inducing but it's very short and superficial. If you like Strategy RPGs I suggest the HoMM games as well as Age of Wonders 1 & 2, Disciples 1 & 2+expansions and Fallout Tactics. Hope this helps.
  12. Don't they have DDR World Championship somewhere? I could see lightgun olympic games and with the Eyetoy and the Wii, the physical possibilities are endless! (w00t)
  13. I didn't read your posts about it. At least I don't remember. Either I haven't been here long enough or it's because I don't go in the Dev corner threads or the K2 ones anymore. I guessed from our little friendly chats.
  14. Somehow I just knew... I do Computer Assisted Design of living room furniture. Frames. It's even more boring than it sounds. And the pay sucks. <_<
  15. It sounds like you favor an enlightened despot. While having a great leader for many years may seem like the best path, it creates a dependance upon a single strong individual. Many of the great civilizations have crumbled because the strong leaders could not be adequately replaced. George Washington probably would have been a great king for the US, but he set a precedent where no president, no matter how great, is to be a permanent fixture in the government. It's worked well, we've thrived under good presidents and survived under the lackluster ones. It also keeps the public from becoming too enamored with one president. The fruits of a president's labors are rarely harvested until they are already out of office. This is great for the country but lousy for the individual, which is an excellent way to run a government. Ex. - Lyndon B. Johnson passed more civil rights legislation than any other president. Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter both benefitted from his fight for equal rights. But LBJ was politically castrated by a war that Eisenhower and JFK got him into. It's a sad situation, because many people of his generation look at him negatively, but I think history will remember him as a president who pushed civil rights within our nation forward. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> All goods points Hurly.
  16. I didn't like the bad guys calling little girls "bitches"(it happens twice) in the movie. I thought it was a bit harsh.
  17. Thinking long-term? When you have a good leader, why would you want to get rid of him every 4-8 years? And when you have a bad one why would want to keep him 4-8 years? Democracy should be about electing and keeping who is right for the job and to remove who is bad for the country. The terms are not always a good thing.
  18. Yeah, he's on a "need to know" basis only. His title of "Commander in Chief" is just for show.
  19. I honestly voted PS3 on this thread because I enjoyed both my PS and PS2. But in the last few weeks my mind is changing. Not that I am taking sides but I think I'll just stay with my PC, upgrade it and enjoy whatever I can. Don't they know most of us don't care about the stupid console we play on? The only thing we care about are the games. Console war, console war. What is it good for?
  20. But why should they? By re-selling the CD to me, the person that originally owned it is transferring their listening pleasure to me. If they were making a copy, that would be a different matter. Once I buy a CD or a game or a movie, I want it to be mine. Of course I don't own the intellectual property on the CD, but I sure as hell own the particular *instance* of the IP, which I should be able to use and resell as I please. Of course, the original intellectual contribution that the creators made should be *recognized*, but they need not be compensated again and again for the same physical instance of their content. This is especially true when you consider that a substantial part of the money you are paying for the product goes to the publisher, who is responsible only for creating millions of these physical replicas and distributing them. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agreed. On all counts. However, if you sell a game to a friend, the owner of the IP doesn't get a dime and they don't like that. It's called "Corporate Greed".
  21. Or he could simply say:"Nah, I'm stayin' "...
  22. Well, used software is very rarely available in the first 2 weeks of release which is, as discussed in other threads, the time the industry considers for making it's money. Like movies, they are considered successful only if they make the cash in the first week or two. Sony apparently was trying to continue making money by forcing the consumers to pay full price for games, forever or until "Greatest Hits" status, by eliminating "previously owned" titles. But this rumor was dismissed early... For music, the mediatic success of a band/artist depends largely on how many copies are bought by distributors/stores. CDs are pre-sold and then the stores must sell the inventory or lose money. This is why you get Platinum albums before they are even released. So, in the case of used/old CDs, one could argue that the artist(s)/Record company already have their money. Personnally, I would use my CD to promote my concert tours, of which the record company wouldn't get a dime. If the system worked that way. Which it doesn't. Meh.
  23. Agreed. However, he doesn't kill his coworker.
