Hm... I'm using Psychovampiric Shield a lot atm and I'm pretty sure that it disappears once the target dies. Maybe some effects just keep on working no matter if the target's dead or alive. I often see visual effects of spells and abilites that keep on showing up on dead bodies. I suspect in that case the effect component just doesn't check if the target is dead or alive - ot the target component doesn't cancel effects on death (no idea which way it's implemented).

Haha, nice idea. Spawning is easy. You can find their names with findPrefab characters <search_string> and then spawn with spawnPrefabAtMouse <dat_name_you_found> Let them fight each other: no idea. There are encounters where two hostile groups might fight each other. In most cases they will just fight you and not each other though. I don't know if this can be influenced via console or maybe with a mod.

Double Tap only affects vessels though. "Very" early is an exaggeration, but early enough. It is a strong single target ranged weapon and the best arquebus in terms of auto-dps. But there might be builds and situations where you would be better off with let's say Dragon's Dowry. Most classes only have so much resources and somtimes you get more bang for your buck with Dragon's Dowry than with the Red Hand. Also when you shoot from stealth the double shoot is no advantage since stealth gives you a 85% reload bonus. That means your second shot from Dragon's Dowry comes nearly as fast as the second shot from Red Hand - so if you are an Assassin-Sniper (see Glimmer Man build) the Red Hand is not your best pick. Then there's war bows like St. Omaku's Mercy or Veilpiercer which can out-dps the Red Hand with the correct enchantments and build. Even Essence Interrupter and Amiina's Legacy can do that due to their lashes - which the Red Hand doesn't have. But special attacks will have less impact because of the lower base damage. The Red Hand is a good mix of high auto-dps and great impact with abilities. That's what makes it very appealing in my opinion. And of course that it's a death sentence for most vessels. What makes reloading weapons especially appealing to me is the better reactivity due to the cancelable reload process. The mega bosses of all ranged weaponary are Hand Mortar/Fire in the Hole and Watershaper's Focus - if we talk about dps potential, usefulness outside of pure dps and what they can do in the right hands and with the right tactics. Kalakoth's Minor Blights, too. Minor Blights for example is the only AoE ranged weapon that will apply Assassinate to all AoE targets - because it's the only AoE ranged weapon which hits its initial target and all AoE targets at the same time (other than mortars and rods which have a short delay).

By the way @Kaylon: you can ask @SChin if he wants to remove your time limit for editing. For a long time forum member who's def. not known for posting divisive content it should be a-okay.

Stuff that is directly put on items usually stacks with everything. You know - like +2 INT on a helmet stacks with everything. With active abilites which are put on items (like you get an ability into your action bar and have to trigger it manually) it might be different. You'd have to test yourself - or find somebody who knows for sure. I suspect that those trinkets will give you a stacking PL bonus. I can try via console when I play next time (if I don't forget about it in the meantime)...

In case of Maia you want the arquebus. First of all she gets +20% Range with the arquebus (14.4 instead of 12 for "normal" arquebuses and 9.6 instead of 8 for the Red Hand). Then 80% chance to interrupt a target with an arquebus per hit - this is huge. She will not only do great dmaage but constantly interrupt foes - especially with the Red Hand which is the perfect weapon for her. She gains nothing from using an arbalest (besides the -20% reload time from her Garb - but the arquebus gets that as well). Since the differences between both weapon types are already small the arquebus clearly wins in this case.

Ha - I get lost in town if you turn me around two times with closed eyes. All praise the GPS I say. I studied German language and computer science. I like languages and programming. I'm good at algebra but suck at arithmetik. I like metaphors and also understand the befenits of hyperbole to emphasize a point. People are mixed bags. It's not all logic and rational vs. empathic and feelings. And besides all that: It's still important that if you write down stuff (where people can't hear your tone and see your mimics and gestures) you have to be accurate. Or use emojis... You can't just plant a hyberbolic statement as if it's a known fact and then expect everybody who reads that to get where you are coming from (or want to go with it). Say something like "Wizards are useless" (a statement I read very often when PoE came out - which is utter bolloks) and players in spe read that and think "oh well, them I'll try something else". This is misleading and bad communication. You can't just write like you talk. It can already be enough to write "To me, wizards are useless". This is something diffrent. It shows that it's your perspective and there may be other people who think differently. I think this is especially important in any place where people are searching for advice. God I hate it (hyperbole) when new players come in, say something like "I want to play a damage dealer and thought about two handed fighter" and the first answer they get is "lol nah mate use rogue cause fighters suck at dps rogues rule at dps". Man I could twist their necks for that (again, hyperbole ). Same as "Hi, I want to play a Wizard nuker - what should I do?" - "It doesn't matter, just pick anything because in Deadfire all chars are the same anyway". BAM - you unnecessarily disappointed and mislead a person.

Arquebus has a base dps of 3.0667 Arbalest has a base dps of 3.1343 So the Arbalest does more dps. Same range, some PEN, both Blunted Criticals and -10 defl. in melee. Arquebus has the added disadvantage of -5 ACC. The question would be why should I choose arquebus over arbalest. This is not so easy to answer. Both weapons are slow which makes them not the best choice for auto-attacking all the time. Instead you want to use them with an ability so they have a big impact per shot. This favors higher base damage (arquebus). Also not missing those precious abilities is important (in order not to waste resources). Arquebus has the better modal in that regard (further reducing its dps though). Arbalst modal can be very good if you are only using an occasional shot here and there to interrupt casters. Both have reload and that can be canceled at any time - so both can be great for spellcasters. And then it comes down to the uniques. A character who maxes their Arcana should def. use Spearcaster. A Bleak Walker/Wizard with Eternal Devotion (adds 10% burning lash to spells) wants to use Blightheart (+10% corrosive lash to spells) id he likes to use nukes. A Bleak Walker/Assassin wants to use Dragon's Dowry because it's the weapon with the highest dmg per hit potential - and so on. And then there's the Red Hand which kind of doubles its dps by skipping one reload (and has the absolutely awesome "Double Tap"). In many cases that's the best pick right away.

Indeed. First I thought the logic was that you have to go away a bit - but it just always works no matter what. At least with True Love's Kiss and all of the Rogue's DoTs (Gouging Strike and so on). I did not try Druid's or Wizard's DoT spells, Brand Enemy etc. I mean it's cool - but on the other hand it's "only" 10% - so not gamebreakingly good.

Aumaua unique dialogues
Boeroer replied to necrocannibalistic's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
If it's more about defense then Coastal Aumaua is a good pick. -
And that is totally ok. I won't object anybody's likings (I mean - if they are not disgusting ). We all like different things. I'm only objecting when opinions or preferences are presented as alleged facts (maybe accidentially) and when hyperbolic statements are presented as if they are rational arguments. In the quote above I find it especially wild that the statement I showed to be false (and was approved by the author of that statement himself) is then described as beautiful observation. I mean... huh? I totally get that there are players out there who want more "oomph", they want to feel really powerful and wipe some monsters with a backhand stroke - while not willing to dive into the whole swamp of tactics and mechanics. That is ok, I get that. I personally like to tinker around in order to find a great build (and am utterly disappointed if it's too obvious and easy - where's the challenge then) but I don't expect that from everybody else.

Try the combo Rapier + Dagger. It fits the Vailian theme nicely and you can get two very good uniques early: - Sword of Daenysis (which is actually a Rapier). It has speed and is rending which is a great combo for an already fast weapon. - March Steel Dagger: unfortunately you have to treat the boy who wants it a bit unfairly in order zu keep it - but eh. It also has speed. Both have the usual +5 ACC bonus for Rapier/Dagger and thus work beautifully with Knockdown. With two weapon style and those two weapon you are already at only 3 frames recovery (no armor penalty). If you take Outlander's Frenzy you will be so fast that you can use Padded Armor (with Armored Grace) and Vulnerable Attack (5 DR bypass) with 0 recovery. If you find Gauntlets of Swift Action and get some Durgan Steel you can actually wear a Breastplate and skip Outlander's Frenzy entirely and always be at 0 recovery (with Vulnerable Attack on). Good talents/abilites: Disciplined Barrage Knockdown Confident Aim (raises MIN base dmg by 20%. That is actually a 8% multiplicative dmg boost - other that most other dmg boosts which are only additive) Weapon Spec & Mastery Armored Grace Charge Weapon Focus Noble Bonus Knockdown Outlander's Frenzy (really some anger management issues because he lost it all ) Apprentice's Sneak Attack Vulnerable Attack Two Weapon Style Savage Attack I would go the Doemenel route for more crit damage. Dungeon Delver as well. High INT is good here. You want Knockdowns to last long, same with Outlander's Frenzy and Disciplined Barrage. Might's not superimportant (but needs to be ok - also because of Constant Recovery). PER is important. Since you are aiming for 0 recovery you can lower DEX. Osric's Family Breastplate looks really good and fits a noble. For the head either Munacra Arret (Whisper of Treason is very good with the high INT, high ACC from Disciplined Barrage). You will be able to charm even dragons. Also looks cool with the Breastplate. Or - of course - the Company Captain's Hat - which is Vailian in the first place and an awesome item. I think I personally would use Munacra Arret. Together with Spirit Spiral (later in the game). Nobles should be good at talking "peasants" into stupid things. Here's the picture of a char I once had (unfortunately wrong race) who wears the Familiy Breastplate and Munacr Arret: It's a good single target dps and CC setup. Later you can swap the March Steel Dagger with Drawn in Spring if you want. It is slower but the wounding enchantment leads to more dps than the speed. I played a somewhat similar char - but as a monk. The high reactivity (due to tiny to zero recovery) is great fun. By the way: when doing Full Attacks the offhand will hit first and the main hand follows. The offhand weapon's recovery will be skipped. Rapiers are the fastest weapons of all, so make sure the Rapier is in the main hand.

Did you know that the pet Harley (+10% dmg to ranged attacks) applies to the dmg of True Love's Kiss? I just found out 2 minutes ago. I now wonder if it gets influenced by other stuff that is not straightforward. Edit: Gouging Strike as well. I think it's because I moved away from the target and am now "at range" while my DoTs still work. This needs further investigation I think... Edit2: it seems all DoTs get the bonus from Harley. Sweet somehow...

It depends a bit on the (single) class. Some can be quite diverse while others... not so much. For example SC Barbarians usually don't develop into a lot of different roles while Wizards can be played like this and that and then something in between. Of course with multiclassing it all gets vogelwild.

Aumaua unique dialogues
Boeroer replied to necrocannibalistic's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Hm... what exactly do you expect from us now? If it's only about dialogue options then I can't help much. ALl in all there's quite little reaction to your race. Class, attributes, skills and reputations are more important. But of course there are mechanical reasons (like certain build ideas) why one might want to pick Island Aumaua (like Kana). Their racial ability is quite special. For some builds it's golden and for others it does almost nothing. Coastal Aumauas have "Towerig Physique" (+20 defense against prone and stun) which is always useful. So - if you specify which kind of class and "role" in the party you want to play I could at least give some tipps which race might fit best mechanically.
