  1. I was wrong .. Got to actually test it .. Transcendent Suffering adds set amount of damage but NOT to base damage .. Monk fist base damage always remains 10-15 ( .. Lvl 10 monk with 20 might (30% damage bonus) (10*1.3 + 8 )- (15*1.3+8 ) aka 21 - 27.5 NOT (10+8 )*1.3 - (15+8 )*1.3 aka 23.4 - 29.9 Huge disappointment Monk fists have the same attack speed as fast speed weapons, but do slightly better damage than average speed weapons (except for sabers), they may not be as OP as you were imagining, but they're still good.
  2. Yeah same for me, when I found and defeated all the stelgaer packs the combat ended, but until I did I was stuck in combat.
  3. I think all Paladin skills should be per encounter, that deprive the unworthy shouldn't require you to take lay on hands, and that greater lay on hands should be buffed quite a bit. I've found Kind Wayfarers to be useful party members at least.
  4. Personally I think cipher mechanis are I think you missed my point about micro. Most, if not all, of the classes seem to perform significantly better if they're heavily microed. As such, if you are comparing the damage of a monk that is heavily microed to a druid that isn't heavily microed, you are not making a valid comparison, just like how if you're comparing the damage of a dps monk to a cc cypher, you're not making a useful comparison. And you are just assuming that I micro my monk more than I micro my druid, and nothing I say will convince you otherwise, so it's really pointless to argue. I didn't assume anything. I've asked several times now and each time you've refused to answer. What I am starting to assume is that you're more interested in proving your point than honest analysis. I micro my monk more than I do Fighters, Chanters, Paladins, Barbarians, and rogues; and the same amount as I do ciphers, wizards, and druids. I don't use ciphers for damage, but for CC, so that comparison is invalid as you've already pointed out several times. I use wizards for debuffing/damage, and druids almost exclusively for damage. If my priest isn't buffing/debuffing or healing, he's either autoattacking some mob with a stick or scratching his head. I've never used a ranger. In other words, I micro my monk more than I micro auto attack classes, and the same as I do casting classes.
  5. Hmm, dual sabers are just burstier than fists, they are slower but have higher base damage, it just makes them fun to use is all. If you actually look at the numbers on fists, they are quite good, they have have the speed of fast weapons and slighty better damage than average weapons. Even if you factor in endgame enchantments fists do alright, the only one you'll really miss is endurance drain, but it's not like you can get that on every weapon anyways. Even if weapons are better than fists, it doesn't factor into a class vs class discussion as long as the monk can use the weapons that work best for him, it just means that monk fists would need balancing vs other weapons he can use.

  7. You don't really need to shoot your monk to generate wounds, just make sure he engages at least one guy, then if that one guy isn't generating wounds fast enough, force a disengagement attack. If you are fighting two guys, judge how fast you are taking damage, if it's to fast then blow one of them away with force of anguish. If you end up fighting 3 guys, you need to have your party CC one too (unless they are relatively weak in comparison to your monk), but CC from your party is why you have a party so I don't see the issue here. Monks require a lot of micromanagement, it's just that kind of class, if you don't like to micromanage characters then monk isn't the class for you. There are party synergies you can use with monk, a pale elf reflexes monk for example, put him in front of your wizards and use them to fry the enemies engaged with your monk and generate wounds at the same time. I only play on hard, I can't speak for PotD, but I notice people commenting on monk accuracy, monk isn't a low accuracy class so if accuracy is an issue then it's an issue with PotD. On hard I always group buff accuracy with my priest as a battle starts, it just makes the fight that much faster, and my monk abilities don't miss. I imagine on PotD you have to do this even more, there is a tier 4 priest spell for example that adds +20 accuracy and reduces foe accuracy by +20, it's huge. It seems like buffing/debuffing is the key to fictory there. But I honestly don't think this discussion should be about PotD, it, as others have said, it isn't balanced.
  8. It should also be noted when you're considering this that fists have the same attack speed as fast weapons do. But I honestly don't think monk fist damage is what people are considering lacking here, tbh I'm not sure what they consider lacking in the monk.
  9. Alright, I don't know how my monk compares to my cipher because I often use cipher for CC, I know how he compares to druids though whom I exclusively use for damage, and other melee classes whom I often use for damage, compared to pretty much everything but barb retaliation builds (which are broken as all hell) monk is performing great.
  10. I think it's ok, conceptually you just put an impenetrable barrier around someone, it doesn't make sense to be able to walk through it. If you could doorway every fight in the game then maybe there would be an issue, but I'm pretty sure you can't, and if you could then this spell wouldn't be the main issue.
  11. Said dual wielding pistol monk has around 81 accuracy, 84 with accuracy gloves, he could win with a bow, and some "lame kiting" (i beat the adra dragon this way), but he doesn't stand a chance otherwise, haha. Honestly the adra dragon isn't designed to be beat by legit tactics, his damage accuracy and defenses are all way to high (140 defense on hard), and don't forget about his terrify aura.
  12. Yeah, I think it is, the effect is labeled as "herald" on the buckler, which is a unique shield modifier as far as I know. There's another buckler you can get later in the game that has the same thing but isn't limited to paladin use.
  13. On hard my monk consistently outputs more than any other class I've played, without excessive knockouts. I don't use things I consider broken so that statement doesn't count certain barb builds, but it does include ciphers because I always use them, though usually for control. Some people I guess are just going to keep theorycrafting about how bad monks are until they get buffed, then they'll be OP, people will realize they were great in the first place, and they'll get nerfed as a result. I'm not really looking forward to the process tbh. Give monk a try for a full playthrough, and you'll realize he's just fine how he is. Just a hint, don't build him as a tank or a glass cannon. Try dual sabers + torment's reach if you really want something fun.
  14. Another thought is, if you don't like tank and spank then try a party without a tank. With balanced melee dps builds (not glass cannons) you shouldn't need one anyways.
  15. I think they suck, my best crit so far on my monk has been a 103 damage torment reach crit using the resolution saber, I had 8 wounds and only 5.7 of that damage was raw. If that's all I can get on the biggest crit I've ever had on my monk, I'd rather use the gloves that give an accuracy bonus.
  16. I noticed that most enemies in this game have a higher fortitude score than they do deflection, something to keep in mind when you consider those barbarian talents.
  17. Don't forget your team members when you factor in the value of a debuff. If you land that debuff then it means 5 other party members are going to have an easier time landing their own spells. In general I agree with what you're saying though.
  18. free off hand (no double fist / no dual wield / no shield / no 2 handed weapon) provides +12 accuracy bonus for the 1 handed weapon. Yes I know that much, but does it affect the spell rolls or just the weapon attacks?
  19. I would be interested in knowing for sure how shields and one handing your weapon affects accuracy, I suppose it would be easy enough to test though since all you have to do is look at the rolls in the combat log and factor in the accuracy of the spells you cast. Might check it out later.
  20. Monk at least doesn't have to worry about it to much, force of anguish is cooler than stunning blows anyways and can be used a lot more.
  21. My monk at endgame had 1694 crits 3380 hits, which seems like an excessively high crit rate. I don't particularly remember it being that high so I wonder if there is a situation where the game is recording my crits but not my hits, like when I aoe groups with torments reach. I try to maintain the highest accuracy at all times through buffs and debuffs, but other than that I don't do anything to ensure crits.
  22. I know archer kiting works, though it can take forever if your accuracy is low. Wood elf paladin archer would probably have the easiest time with this strategy, you'd have less trouble with the terrify aura and good accuracy from zealous focus/sworn enemy.
  23. Lol, I was level 11 and he killed my party with one hit too.. I did not do his quest to give myself a starting advantage with the fight, and was not really prepared, I didn't feel like coming back later though so I kept at it until I found a way to win. I separated Eder a bit from my party and had him initiate the conversation with the dragon so that when it turned hostile the breath attack would only hit Eder. While the dragon was temporarily distracted (not for very long, poor Eder) I had the rest of my party rush by and slaughter the lizards, then I popped all my figurines in order to further distract the dragon while I killed off the other adds. Getting this far successfully took several attempts. After killing the adds I made a mistake and he fried my whole party except for my monk. My monk kited him around for about an hour while shooting at him with a base accuracy hunting bow. On hard he has about 140 defense, factoring in his fear aura put my hit rate around 12%, the hunting bow I was using usually hit him for 2-4 points of damage and applied a damage over time debuff on him. I was never in any danger but it took forever, I was afraid after awhile that my character would get fatigued which would make my accuracy even worse, but she never did, lol. I think a wood elf Paladin archer build could do the same tactic in a much much shorter time period (much less fear duration and sworn enemy accuracy buff), but next time I get to him I'm going to try some other strategies before I resort to that.
