  1. Not that I recall. But there are no weapon specialisations, just 1H or 2H, so it's easy enough to switch out once you reach town. But yeah, while I'd like a flat out blank slate class with no background, like that offered in Shadowrun, it's not offered here. Part of it may be because they have a pre-written character history for each class to explain their becoming a Source Hunter. I don't know whether that has a gameplay effect down the line, however.
  2. To clarify a bit on class selection, all the options presented are just presets/templates which pick the starting stats, perks and starting active abilities for you. (The latter is a bit confusing, you have to click the little box besides the abilties to swap them out) You can turn any class into any other class by customising them. A small caveat though is that starting equipment is not customisable, so actually the right thing to do would be to choose the class that starts with the equipment you want, then customise it to give it the stats you want. e.g. If you want to play a two-handed fighter, don't choose the Fighter class (which will start with a sword and shield), but choose the Knight class instead, then customise it to swap out the paladin-ish abilties for more fightery stuff.
  3. I would observe that Dark Souls is unmatched as a game in terms of it's anger-generating potential.
  4. I think the advice provided in the link is incorrect, in that while it's not technically supported, there are actually no such things as 32-bit keys and 64-bit keys. Microsoft don't *want* people doing it because they're not the support point for OEM software, the system builder is, and so there's no way of ensuring the system builder would continue to support the system if the end user upgrade to 64-bit. You must acquire 64-bit installation media, yes, but Microsoft freely provide the ISOs for all versions - available here. Activation may be a bit janky, but any activation problems can be solved be either installing without a key and using a regedit "hack" to fix it or just using phone activation.
  5. Eh, running at 1.1GHz will have little to do with how slow the repair process goes. Honestly now, it seems you've already spent more time on the machine than what the machine is worth, time being money and all that. I wouldn't be going any further, and I wouldn't put a PCB full of volatile and/or toxic substances in an oven that I still plan to use for food. $60 gamble or $120 for a new board and CPU (a Pentium of Athlon X4), I'd go the latter every time, especially since you're already on a DDR3 platform.
  6. Two player co-op probably doesn't quite add up to be a real co-op night event. But apparently the game does support more players in custom content and possibly future official content, I think.
  7. I remember back when the P55 boards were first released, issues with a crappy socket/retention system led to some poor contact between the pins and the pads on the CPU, which potentially led to it "burning out" on the pins that handled power delivery. While this is probably unrelated, it's possible that shifting the system exacerbated the poor contact issue. EDIT: Reference - http://www.anandtech.com/show/2859
  8. Don't really have much else ....maybe the BIOS battery needs replacing? Because short of that it's probably just flat out hardware failure and it's probably not worth finding parts to fix up a 5-year old system.
  9. I'd start by disconnecting all the drives to begin with and see if you can boot from a CD or USB - maybe a Linux LiveCD or even just Memtest - or hope that it at least allows access to the BIOS setup. If even that is still a problem, then it's probably time to strip out all the hardware and start over, reseat the CPU and heatsink (fresh thermal goop), connect a different PSU if possible, and try the memory one sticks at a time with nothing else plugged in. If it's more convenient to do so, remember you can power on by shorting the two power switch pins with a screwdriver or similar. P.S. Not all the USB ports would necessarily be connected to the same controller chip, so it might also be worth trying out different ports to see if maybe only some are being temperamental.
  10. Using the train analogy, the 4TB would be adding more luxury sleeper cars to the train in place of sardine can coach class. Needless to say, that'd be Totally Awesome.
  11. You can buy boxed copies but I think they're all Steamworks. KS backers got the option of a DRM-free boxed copy, but I don't think it's available anymore. They're selling a boxed Collector's Edition on their own site but it's pretty costly at 70EUR, but it includes two copies of the game. I assume they'll be selling the regular edition boxed copies at retailers but not in all countries, I think it'll be fairly limited distribution.
  12. After installing you can leave it in offline mode permanently. I think I had to set a toggle in the Uplay options, but after that it won't even bug you about going online every time you launch it, unlike Steam. EDIT: I also had couple other issues, not sure if they still exist: 1) Game refused to install unless Uplay launched in Administrator mode, with no indication that this was a problem (Google to the rescue). 2) The save game cloud sync tried to connect and failed every time playing, forcing me to wait for a bit while it tried to connect before being able to ignore and play anyway, but then there's an option to disable that.
  13. This game doesn't use the "full" functionality of Uplay, so it's passable. Y'know like when some people try to claim some Steam titles are DRM-free on some sort of technicality? Well this is Ubisoft's version of it, apparently the most intrusive features of Uplay are not enabled for this. That said, I don't actually own a title that uses the full functionality of Uplay, so I can't say for sure how it compares, but whenever people make specific complaints about Uplay it's usually about stuff that I've never encountered and never knew was a thing.
  14. Steam claims I have 3 hours played for this title. More than two of those have been spent creating various combinations at the character creation screen however... and I haven't even had a fight besides the very first one - which, I've discovered, doesn't even trigger if you're sneaking, the bad guys just walk away. Pretty much any other game would have ignored your stealth and just forced the scripted dialogue so I'm impressed by that, small detail as it may seem.
  15. Install your games on a RAMdisk!
  16. So much co-op that even your single player game is a co-op game. I had been planning to start D:OS as a pure co-op game with my sister, but she's been busier than expected lately so I launched the game solo last night. Except that I ended up making a bunch of starting characters over and over without actually playing, then had to go to sleep.
  17. So maybe I shouldn't be admitting this, my immediate reaction when I see a reference to the 4th of July isn't US Independence day, but that one Tom Cruise movie (which at least I've never watched).
  18. Unrest is releasing on the 23rd, so it's not really on the horizon as such, more a short stroll away. But other than that and Wasteland 2, I don't really know what else is imminent, and I've backed so many crowdfunded projects that I no longer bother keeping up with the status of each up until the time a date is announced. Out of those games listed, the only one I don't give a stuff about is Grimrock, which represents more or less the opposite of what I look for in an RPG. That said, I know very little about AoD, and DA:I's issues have had plenty of air in the relevant thread. EDIT: Oh right, CDPR's games, Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk. Fair way off though.
  19. Yeah, I'd totally get one if it served Decaf Diet Coke.
  20. It might make economic sense for companies to provide free vasectomies thus minimising incidences of parental leave. Win-win.
  21. 3-4 hours maybe? Not a problem for a typical gaming session, but could be if you forget to charge between sessions even once. The larger battery is "up to" double the battery life, though probably a bit short considering the labels indicate 1500mAh vs 2550mAh capacity. Comparison image of battery size: I bought MH3U on a whim, never played it and no idea what it's even like, heh.
  22. Looks like they've finally sorted out the ability to recall the used beta keys and claim back new Steam or GOG keys. Messy launch, but glad that's sorted at least. Only found out by checking manually though, no email or KS update to communicate the fact, eh. (No giving away of keys from me, sorry, since I intend to be playing co-op )
  23. You can also just use it as a minimap - MK8 stupidly doesn't have a way of showing the minimap on the TV - using the stand to keep it upright in front of you and (or prop it up on the coffee table somehow if you have a Basic model that comes without a stand). Battery life for the tablet is pretty poor, but I haven't found it too awkward to use while plugged in, or alternatively you can buy a larger official battery. P.S. I ended up buying a Wii U Pro Controller, which is basically near-identical to an XBox controller (except the buttons and the stick on the right side are swapped). Worth it I think, as comfortable and lighter than the XBox gamepad, and the battery lasts forever (and is rechargeable with a generic mini-USB cable, one is included).
  24. These things also refrigerate the beer, which I imagine the power would be mainly used for.
