  1. Well, just beat it for the first time with the default wagon, took probably just shy of double digit attempts, getting the double barrel pistol really turned it around. But there's another 15 wagons in the game I haven't tried... Been going with the randomly generated party each time, and the first time it gives me an all-female party I win, there might be a lesson there.
  2. Super Amazing Wagon Adventure is annoying me because I want to use the gamepad for the wagon sections but it's rubbish at controlling the on-foot sections. Blah. Unsurprisingly I also have to run it in a small window, because otherwise the pixels would be 1cm each across.
  3. I know there are old people out there who use "Nintendo" as a genericised trademark in place of "console gaming", like Googling or Xeroxing something. As in "Oh the kids are out the back Nintendoing". Not that it in any way justifies the headline.
  4. Well you'd expect a hacker of all people to be videogame genre-savvy.
  5. Elephant armour DLC.
  6. It'll be separate purchases for each type of mount as well, since obviously there's no way horse armour would fit on a unicorn.
  7. Holy Smoke Barti !!!! That's hectic, do you think a virus caused it? Make sure you do a full scan and confirm your definitions are updated Nah, it's just how Games for Windows Live rolls.
  8. I think the point is that as the number of players/playable characters increases, the omission becomes more noticeable and jarring. In single-protagonist titles it's all rather arbitrary, but with four-player co-op such as in the new AC game, variety becomes more appreciated. By the time you get to larger scale multiplayer games like Unreal Tourney it's an expected feature, and attempting anything else in an MMO would be a ludicrous concept.
  9. Yeah, I'm not down on Sony for this (though in general I am, all the way back to the rootkit fiasco), but I am very much down on Disney/LucasArts, who deserve no credit for it, because the inevitable impression is that this is something that's happened *in spite* of them. I wonder what happened in 2009, which was the first and last time they released a non-remastered version of any of their classic games. What would a policy of only releasing games redone with modern graphics (MI1/2, GF) possibly achieve?
  10. First thing to come out of E3 (well, more accurately, out of this thread, since I'm relying on you lot to give me all the relevant news) I can say I'm unequivocally pleased about. That this is my first post in this thread is probably indicative of that. I mean I saw the headline about Grim Fandango and it was cool up until the guy said it was 'exclusive' to the Sony platforms. While I've since seen Tim hint about other platforms, that was about as big a dampener as could be conceived.
  11. Autologous blood transfusions and microdosing EPO, yes.
  12. I just want the numpad for the extra Enter key. Use that quite a bit which is the sole reason I don't even consider compact or tenkeyless.
  13. Trap doors open everywhere except where you started, dropping you into a pit of bamboo spikes.
  14. I, uh, have some save games I made in the late 90s. And looking back earlier than that, the early MPS games such as Civilization and Railroad Tycoon actually had restrictions on how many save slots you could make per disk, but let you specify the disk, so I have a bunch of 3.5" floppies with early 90s saves on them somewhere.
  15. Are you paying for our flights? :D
  16. I can't even remember how that encounter goes, save that I did run him through. I don't think there's even an option to spare him after you fight?
  17. I don't actually know much of anything of the wider backstory, I just want dead kings as per the game's title. I mean I don't see why Geralt should even be aligned with or against any of the kingdoms, though this is probably explained somewhere. But yeah, presuming a faithful import, I'll will with absolute certainty take my Roche path save into the sequel. I know it's probably the less popular path through the game, and less "optimal" (fewer quests, less final XP, fewer plot reveals), I think I prefer how it develops more. And naturally it has the highest casualty count, three dead kings, dead Letho, dead Sile, dead dragon. Would have been perfect with dead Radovid and dead Philippa as well. Maybe I've been playing too much Privateer, but I'm feeling my Geralt ought to be Brownhair incarnate.
  18. Naah, he didn't need Geralt for anything, he was just collateral damage, in fact it kinda bit him in the rear. He did maybe overestimate Serrit and Auckes' abilities, but it was necessary for him to get to Loc Muinne in time. 2 kings were already dead and so he hedged his bets Was talking about the fat king, who I will take to be canonically dead in my game if at all possible. Would've been great to go four out of four!
  19. He needed us to cover for him for one king and missed another altogether, clearly incompetent.
  20. It's a shame XFX were nVidia-exclusive back in the R500 days, denying us from seeing the glory that would have been the XFX X1800XTX XXX-edition, or indeed the XFX X1800XTX XXX Fatal1ty DD Extreme Black Alpha Dog Pro edition.
  21. I don't know about lower-end Powercolors, but apparently their 280/290 custom coolers were among the best, possibly the quietest, custom factory coolers around. I do remember disliking them about a decade ago for creating several neutered variants of their various cards and deceptively marketing them, but that seems in the past now. That said, with the greater customer protections in Australia (and the EU), maybe their in-house customer service gets less of a bad rep - here the customer keeps dealing with the retailer instead of being shoved off to deal with the manufacturer direct. Hopefully XFX are over their problems - last gen they had a problem where they somehow managed to make their custom coolers *worse* than AMD's crappy stock cooler.
  22. That is a particularly expensive example of a 260X, could probably get a 265 which is a fair bit (20-25%) faster for less. Or a quick look, other 260X cards for $110. EDIT: 265 for $120 after MIR? With no 2GB 260X examples for under $110, I'd say that's a no-brainer. Though there is a bargain basement 1GB example for $70 after MIR that could be an option for lower-res, no anti-aliasing gaming.
  23. I was disappointed to find that it did not involve sniping people *with* V2 rockets.
  24. I see Amazon UK have it listed, and while Amazon don't ship games here, it hopefully means there are no exclusivity agreements and that the usual suspects like OGS, Zavvi/TheHut and Base will carry it. Amazon's list price is 95GBP, so about 80GBP without VAT, which is ~$135USD, so it works out cheaper than the US. Aside, I have a couple credit cards which have no foreign transaction/currency conversion fees, so that aspect's not been a worry for me as well, and these are commonly available Australian cards, not foreign cards. No idea if that kind of deal is available in NZ of course. For the Aussies out there, you really should get either a 28 Degrees (GE Money) card or a Bankwest Zero Platinum card, if not both. (I've also heard that Citibank offers a fee-free Visa Debit card, but haven't really looked into it myself) EDIT: Bankwest also has the More Rewards Platinum card with no foreign fees, but unlike the other cards listed has an annual fee of $130. On the flipside, it has, as the name suggests, rewards points. Apparently the calculation is that you'd need to spend about $15000 on it annually to break even with the annual fee, but if you do then it's a great choice for an all-in-one solution for both local and international spending. Otherwise you'd be better off going with one of the listed completely fee-free card for foreign purchases and a no-annual-fee rewards card for local spending.
  25. Off on a bit of a tangent, but so I bought a Wii U Pro controller yesterday, and irritatingly the charging cable is mini-USB. Who else even makes mini-USB stuff today? I think the only other mini-USB device I have is a mothballed camera from the previous decade that I have lying around somewhere, so essentially this is a new connector I'll have to keep lying around. Doubly irritating because the Wii U Gamepad has its own proprietary charging connector which is pretty much the size of a mini-USB connector. Dammit, just pick one or the other and stick with it at least.
