Wand of Enervation
elcoderdude replied to Urtar37's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
You have to play the Wand of Enervation first, before you play anything else on the check, due to the bug. -
Them ogres ain't right
elcoderdude replied to Qyet's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Just to reiterate da_mayor's point, this is by design. This is a power of Mammy Graul's. Read her card closely when it is displayed at the start of the scenario. Obsidian changed the way checks like this work. Previously, EVERY character had to attempt the check (a real pain in 6-character parties). Now, you only attempt the check if you try to play a card restricted by the the check. (The cards are wrapped in chains, but you can attempt to play them.) -
Ezren's an interesting choice. Gives you strong Intelligence/Arcane, and opens up the world of Arcane spells. Ezren has strong combat rolls, and usually recharges his spells, so his health is generally good. Might want to start him with a Amulet of Life to give him some damage protection. His allies should explore, but in a small party you could probably give him a Guard or a Burglar if you want that. (So, definitely examine his starting deck before playing him, and swap out as need be. Might want to swap a utility spell for a combat.) Ezren can explore a little slow in the early adventures, because he has no blessings and only a few allies. He explores again after acquiring any Magic boon, so he's best in spell-heavy locations. In later adventures there's a lot more Magic boons, and he can get the Swipe spell to even pick up the high-level weapons (and Haste spell to use to explore).

Hand Size
elcoderdude replied to teasel's topic in Pathfinder Adventures: Characters Builds & Strategies (Spoiler Warning!)
Playing the card game, every player I know takes a hand size upgrade sooner or later, and usually several. Four or five cards is a small hand. You'll explore less, have fewer options, and more often have to discard cards to get to a card you need or want, as others have said. I've found 6 to be the minimum size to make it through the Adventure Path with, and 7 is more comfortable. It depends on the character, of course. Most martials don't need as big a hand as most casters, Harsk being the exception because he's frequently recharging to assist, as Longshot pointed out. Note the card game promo character Ranzak can have an 11 card hand. (At that size, using the card game Raise Dead spell on a dead Ranzak doesn't give him enough cards to survive, unless someone gives him a card before his next turn.) -
Not understanding the dislike of Cure. It does have more of a downside in the digital game than in the card game, which I'm more familiar with, because, unlike the card game, the digital game doesn't let you pass on acquiring cards you don't want (and I am wondering WHY NOT?) Still, you can use the Craft skill on those items you don't want, etc. and do your best to avoid the dross. In a party of six, discarding allies and blessings to explore quickly, taking damage on the occasional under-blessed bad roll, not to mention game effects & BYA damage, Cure is pretty useful.

No advancement for one character
elcoderdude replied to Qyet's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
The reward for Adventure 1 is a card feat, so if Lem didn't complete Adventure 1, that would explain his being 1 card short. Ironically it is actually you who assumed you failed the Goblin Warchanter check. (No offense, this confuses many people.) Just because a card is bound in chains doesn't mean you can't use it. Try to use it. That's when you'll be prompted to make the check. This is a "fix" put in by a recent patch. -
Unable to play, can not start over
elcoderdude replied to Glandra's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Posting a screen shot could help people help you. (If you can't attach it to your post, you can create a free account at www.dropbox.com, upload it there, and provide a link here.) Are you sure you don't have a card available? Maybe one character has too many cards, and one has too few? Or you do have a card in the lower pane, perhaps under character A, and character B is lacking that same card type? If any member of your party has an extra card of a given type, and another member is short that card type, the character who is short has to take the party's extra card. If you really have removed all extra cards from all character's decks, and used all the available cards you can, clicking the blue arrow on the right of the screen should display the Basic cards of the type you are missing. If you really give up: -- Quit game -- Click Story -- Find the save game you are dealing with -- Click the X in the upper right of the save game to delete it You can now use Story to reform the party using the same characters (be sure to use your Experienced characters). I've never killed a party in the post-scenario screen, so I'm not sure if the party will be on the scenario you just completed, or the next one, but you should be able to play it. -
Gameplay bug collection
elcoderdude replied to Longshot11's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Are you searching the forum? You know that because of a bug you have to encounter the last card in the game (do not let the timer run out, do not let Magga eat the last card) and win in order to advance, right? This has been reported on several threads. -

elcoderdude replied to Longshot11's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
The count for Magga does not show the count of allies eaten by Magga. Instead, it shows the count of all cards eaten by Magga. You don't have to collect more allies than Magga's total card count. While the scenario is still playing out, you can't be sure how many allies Magga has eaten. -

My guess the problem really is the non-intuitive way Obsidian revised characters like the Hag and the Goblin Warchanter to work. When you encounter these monsters, certain cards will become covered with chains. This does not mean you cannot use these cards. Instead, it means that when you try to use one of these cards, you will then be prompted to make the necessary check to successfully use the card. -

I had this same problem. In my opinion, it's a bug, since the ally should be discarded to the non-active character discard pile. Definitely a bug. -
Can't get past Here Comes The Flood
elcoderdude replied to Urtar37's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
See the solution on this thread. If the timer runs out, you don't advance. You have to encounter the last card. You don't have to close any location, though. -
Can't continue Story Mode
elcoderdude replied to Boatski's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
What I do when I am in Story mode and the app gets hung is: -- Click Story -- Find the party -- Delete the saved game by clicking x in upper right -- Form a new party -- Click Experienced to get experienced characters only -- Put the same characters I had before back into the party By playing this party you pick up on the scenario where you left off. -
Can't get past Here Comes The Flood
elcoderdude replied to Urtar37's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
This really puzzles me. I've played this scenario with 1, 2 and 6 characters, on multiple difficulty settings, on multiple devices, and in every case, if I get at least half the allies and I encounter the last card, I advance. Is there any possiblilty you are doing something wrong? -
This is a new one on me. Lini, playing solo, normal mode, last scenario of adventure 3. At the Mountain Peak. Took damage in a fight, discarded animal ally. Start of turn roll: Survival 7 or bury a card. Lini has +3 Wisdom, Survival: Wisdom + 2. So her bonus on the Survival 7 check is +5. She just has to roll at least a 2 on a d10. Rolls: 1. (Is this a surprise?) Buries inflict. Uneventful turn. Next turn: Screen indicates Survival roll bonus is +4 (the red box in the center of the screen). Huh? Check the skill listed for the check: Wisdom +3, Survival +5. Switch to Wisdom skill. The red box indicates the bonus is +2. Quit game, reenter game to see if condition clears. Survival roll bonus is now +3. Switch to Wisdom skill. Bonus is +1. Quit game, reenter game. No change. ?? PFID DD78F74D1342CD6B

I played Ezren through the entire Rise of the Runelords path. I wouldn't rate his ability to explore a 5. Ezren is an inconsistent, and often slow, explorer. He's great at spell-heavy locations, but these are few, and, as the adventure number gets higher, he has less chance of acquiring Divine spells. It's true more boons are magic as you progress, but the weapons and armors become out of his reach, leaving magic items and Arcane spells, and their just aren't enough to make him a 5. The category is current content.. Sure, but there are parallels. Since nearly all the content is the same, the card game and the digital game play very much alike.

Something is definitely wonky with Sustain when Seoni is rated higher than Valeros. Seoni will be discarding a card for combat a lot of the time, plus she has a lot of blessings and allies, which will often be discarded. Seoni is pretty much unplayable without some healing. On the other hand, Valeros is recharging in most of his combats, he has fewer blessings and allies, and with his armor, is very hard to kill.
