Just watched Chars counterattack. Nothing can come close to the awesomeness that was Char v Aumero in the final fight. It's just REALLY well done.

God I hope revans not the emperor... it'd be to fantastic for words (living 300 years :shakes head:) -
I suppose I want a WW1 level of RTS.... where tank fights were duke fests and... yeah I prefer to slug it out with somebody rather than micro four guys to their base and annoy them to death.

kerist. they can't let the old batty emperor from the great hyperspace war lie can they? -
I didn't play them. of course by the time I really recognized them as games worth trying they'd been out of print for five years.

Have you played any of EA's CnC games? Granted, CnC3 was lacklustre, but Generals and Zero Hour were immensely enjoyable games, both for their single-player campaign as well as online multiplayer. I was never good enough to be able to compete online, but my impression from the online community has always been that while they didn't have much in the way of macro-management (so they're nowhere close to a real e-sport RTS like Starcraft), they were fun little micro-management intensive games. In fact, as far as competitive multiplayer is concerned, I believe Generals and Zero Hour are considered superior to Westwood's revered originals. I've been following the RA3 Beta and it seems most of the community generally prefer it to CnC3, it's not as good as Zero Hour was. So it seems to have decent core gameplay. Package this gameplay in a completely wacky over-the-top Hollywood-esque single-player campaign, and I think you end up with an enjoyable game. It's sad that Westwood died, but there's no need to unnecessarily revere their games as some gold standard that no modern developer can surpass. Generals and Zero hour were C&C in name only. They didn't have any of the UI you love from the origional and Red Alert. Plus it didn't have the fmv and hammy actors. Until the expansion on the actors and then they weren't hammy. Company of Heroes. I refer to it as Real Time Tactics rather than Strategy because of the way the game is structured. (with single units being EXTREMLY important.... and I'm not talking about mega units) I haven't played Red Alert 3. I want to but cash is an issue at this time. I personally Like games where the idea isn't to have to micro the units in the fight to the nth degree just to have a chance at winning. I like the idea of running a team into a fight and then going back and making/grabbing reinforcements and actually having my troops in combat have enough holding power on their own with a small amount of micro that they can survive for fresh units to come up and start pounding the living CRAP out of the opponent. That said I'm a world class turtle. And it seems like the devs have a personal vendetta against turtles in general because they want action and constant action. The most obvious dev team who hates turtledom is Relic (as much as I love them). All the RTS/RTT games that they put out now require you to move your units constantly around the field taking strategic points for resourses. Generals was a Turtlegasm but then with C&C3 they kinda left turtles in the dust again.

I would hope that instead of ripping off the talent trees they'd do somthing else. And it would be difficult to make the Guardian Sentinel and Counselor three different classes given all force users work off the same basic force powers. I'm guessing that Jedi will be a class with guardian sentinel and counselor being three different mutually exclusive carreer paths. instead of talents just have different abilities... bah I donno Talents does seem to be the way to do Jedi but then how do you do Smugglers? Also I hope they don't put in noncombat jobs like in SWG. No Offense but having to have a cooking skill up the wazzoo just to make cash no es bueno. -
So.. I watched all of ZZ and I think that its somewhat inferior to its older brother(Zeta) Probably because of the lack of Char.

they might make smuggler the shooty shooty equivalent of the standard Rogue class.... after all a smuggler and a rogue are the same thing... kinda. -
I've got the collectors edition... I"m gonna have to scrounge for it though... probably trade in Fable 2 and Warriors Orochi 2 (which I should get decent amounts for what with the power trade in and my edge card...)

Just make sure you don't try and install TUTU, as you'd never get it working in time before all the computers blow up and stop working. Hell, maybe the attempt to install TUTU may be the cause of why all the world's computers will explode and stop working. Have no fear, though - JagNet will send a J-800 Jaginator back through JagNet's latest Time-Jag-Displacement apparatus to eliminate the parents of every Pocket Plane Group modder before they are conceived! I just had the image from yhatzees clear sky review where he mentions "on the hardest difficulty."

Kotor3: Ideas, Suggestions, Discussion Part 26
Calax replied to SteveThaiBinh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
They probably advanced the timeline 300 years so that a few things could happen. The republic could rebuild itself from the low point of Kotor 2. The Jedi Order could be repopulated. and so that they could disconnect from the KotoR games a bit and not have to add a Revan NPC. Then have nerd wars over revans Gender alignment physical attributes class and other such goodies. -
I think the general view of grinding is small repetative tasks with a low reward level. I believe it come from the adage "putting your nose to the grindstone" but am not sure about that. It's generally associated with MMO's because there it's used as a way to lengthen the amount of time a person must put in before getting an item. In single player games generally the only Grinding ever seen is the grind for XP. but with the introduction of factions to anything I fear for the grinding of faction rep.

Caught flack for giving a 9 to Fable 2 a couple of days ago... have since had more time to mull over my gaming experience with said game and posted another review going over different topics. And caused the smoke alarm to go off in the house while playing with fire (after sodering my tubs faucet piping back together to add a 1/2 an inch to it so the new faucet fit.)

meh I'm kinda suprised people actually ready my review given that I seem to be invisible to 90% of the people here. :shrugs: Calax's Beef of the night! Fable 2 is a good game for most people. I suppose I shouldn't have bought it given I generally don't like "driving" a character that is little more than a cheer in terms of characterization. In the first game you were given some character by your supporting allies what with saving your mother and all and your main quest had alot more repercussions on the world. what with the death of twinblade, the whole Jack of Knives thing and the destruction of the guild and all that. I've been told that most of the events that actually change the game world take place in sidequests in Fable 2 but I just can't get beyond the fact that somehow a person (hammer) can become an adoring friend to a mute who does little more then fetch things for a blind 500 year old woman and has a dog that will faithfully follow them to the end of the earth. I suppose I'm too used to the biware/obsidian way of giving you a character thats actually got lines with which the player is allowed to define the characters personality rather than having an arcane meter system that says "you've been this good" or "this corrupt" or what have you. PM's system of having the character say nothing could have been done much better. of course he'd have to give the character a TINY bit of life beyond the player which he seems to be averse to to say the least. and by better I mean doing it the half life two way with well fleshed out characters speaking to the mute protagonist and sometimes speaking for the protagonist. I suppose that's what hurt Fable 2 in my eyes the most (other than my previous reviews anger at the fact that there are no changes to the world over the blasted main quest line) was the fact that NONE of the characters had more than a cardboard cutout personality. Hell Lucian didn't even have Jacks level of personality or even your mothers level in the previous game and your mother had less lines than Rose in fable 2! The only character with even a modicum of personality (who ironically i thought had the most lines over all) was the hero of Skill. and the guy is a pompous Jackhole. when I was able to the first thing I did was pull out my gun and shoot him in the head for some of the crap he put me through. Honestly my favorite part of the game was during the 10 year gap. Why? because it felt like you were actually doing something rather than shuttling back and fourth across the land playing Fed-ex for a blind woman. it's also the only time in the entire main questline where you can make a choice about what to do. Admittedly the choice doesn't have any impact on the world at large, it's just a chance for you to get penalized for being good and bad points for being apathetic. Combat in the game is easy as cake, and the ranged system was improved, although once you can target a body part with your rifle you generally get all one hit kills while your opponents are running at you like lemmings. The sound design is well done if a tad bit LOUD at times (my TV was playing at a volume setting of 7 and I was still yelled at for it being too loud. usually I play things at 15 and don't get yelled at). guns sound like guns rather than nerf/mattell creations. Visually the game is impressive. Like I said earlier when I ended the main quest my character looked to be 65 with grey hair, glowing red eyes, and her skin glowed blue with sigils and arcane symbology because I had invested in Magic. Of course you couldn't tell it was a she given that after a certain level of Physique you look like you should turn green and scream HULK SMASH. I was a little dissapointed that PM had removed armor because a guy in armor looks freaking SWEET in comparison to the clothing choices we are given. I ended up going with the higway man look (i thought it was more of a pirate look to be honest) for almost the entire game because it was the only thing that looked even remotely good. I tried on a will users robe and found that my boots often clipped through the tail of my robe and it just looked nasty. Death in Fable 2 isn't really death, when your life goes down you get knocked out. after your corpse stops bouncing on the ground all ragdolly and often looking like it doesn't have a bone structure to speak of (are my feet supposed to be in my mouth when I bend over backwards?) you will knockback anyone in melee range and stand back up with full life. Later on in the game once you've powered up you will find that your opponents come in droves and also have stupid amounts of health. Those bandits that you faced off with and killed in two swings back when you had no upgrades and a simple iron longsword? well when you've got a master longsword and lvl 4 strength that same twerp will take a good 15 swings (without blocking) to knock to the ground. It doesn't help that Lucians grunts generally give out less XP than a Hobbe and are some of the toughest grunts a evil villian can pick up from the henchmen store. Supposedly every time you get knocked out you earn a scar. but I've yet to really see any visible scars. they're probably covered up by my magic blue veins. Most of my dislikes will probably be overlooked by other players but honestly? I'm thinking I should have waited for a Used copy to come in and checked that sucker out at work. For two reasons 1 the main story is criminally short and 2 I've never felt the draw to doing sidequests or trying to get every little thing in a game. Sure I got the "turian ally" and "krogan Ally" achievements the world of Mass Effect felt easier to get around in than Fable 2. Sure Fable 2 has the breadcrumb system (which is wonderful don't get me wrong) and a simple fast travel system... you know I really don't know why I was able to stay interested in ME rather than Fable. Maybe it's the fact that the side quests in ME felt more natural to the progression of the game? Now that I think about it alot of the fable 2 interface system doesn't feel that natural... from the breadcrumb system (which I'm willing to let slide because it's golden pixie dust AWESOMENESS!) to the way quests are given to you (they just kinda appear in your quest menu and you can quick travel to the questing area). And it is a little jarring that if you make a mistake and accidentally shoot somebody all your good deeds are overlooked and you are constantly assailed and yelled at as a murderer. The menu system is atrocious as somebody else pointed out, every time you use a potion or item in general you are instantly booted back out to the game screen. This is especially bothersome when you've got eight books that you want to use to get your dog some new tricks and yourself some new expressions (how do you learn an expression from a book anyway? it seems kinda stupid). I've decided that on Tuesday I'm gonna trade Fable 2 in when I pick up Fallout 3. and if people like these penny reviews I might be convinced to do one on fallout after a few days.

right now i'm working through as a scout. I have noticed that on dual core cpus you have to flick off one of the cores otherwise both kotor games go absolutly batty!

not quite. Its just an element that is very rare. it doesn't exactly have an allegiance to any side but from what i was lead to believe (in the hand of thrawn Duology) was that the stuff was so rare/useless that practically nobody knew what it did and why there was a layer of it around the imperial palace.
