  1. I wonder how all those old games got such an amazing music. Did they put so much money on it, or is it that artists did a job of their lives, or it was pure coincidence ? Not many games nowadays have such damn strong soundtracks.
  2. Realism is VERY important thing in high fantasy novels, games etc. Nobody would read such books if it didn't feel real, for example, if warriors could throw their sword through 30 orcs in a row, or gandalf could just cast ****ing fireball and kill all orcs in the battle for the two towers... Don't give me such bull**** like "Are we really going to talk about realism in high fantasy game?". But in this context, I think that switching weapons during a fight wouldn't be an unforgiveable, "unrealistic" thing...
  3. It started to look like that since the beta came out. There are just too many bad design choices for a real IE games succesor.
  4. Lack of ammo is the biggest let down for me... I can't imagine any Infinite engine game without ammo and all kinds of stuff to throw (daggers) etc. Also, when I found out that there are magical wands with infinite ammo I was like WHAT ? Like in Mmorpg ? Goddammit. It was so cool in IE games, that mages had to choose between staffs and something like slingshot. And now it will be only PEWPEWPEW, forever.
  5. You compared it to the Temple of Elemental Evil - yes, that's why I'm thinking lately, that PoE would be much better down the turn based combat road. While 3D characters are just acceptable outside the combat, they are also acceptable during turn based combat, because there was no texture overlapping, nothing like that. It was fine in ToEE. In Pillars of Eternity on the other hand, I think they didn't expect so many issues that are hard to resolve, and so we have to get along with this clunky combat. Many people say that it looks "nice", yeah it could be worse I guess, but it could also be MUCH much better. I was waiting for this game hoping that in 2015 it will be at least as good as Baldurs Gate. Of course, I will instantly buy this game on release and propably enjoy it much, but it could be done much better, design-wise.
  6. There are many reasons why it seems too fast. It's not only the speed intelf, but also the fact that it's 3D in 2D enviroment, as it makes unforeseen problems. Also, characters are just poorly animated, which may be caused by lack of money for putting more emphasis on such game elements. Obsidian chose dangerous road deciding that this game will go for 3D characters, and some problems will remain unsolved for sure. Putting any ammount of combat feedback in this game won't help the combat itself, because it will remain difficult to understand visually, as long as the characters look unnatural in combination with the background. Let's face it, 3D characters in the 2D enviroment just doesn't feel natural and it's visible all the way through the game. While looking at the background I'm astonished by the beautiful art they did, and then there are 3D characters which are just ruining it. And the combat is an apogee of how unnatural it all feels.
  7. As far as we know, they are happy with how characters look like, so I doubt if anything will be done, that hasn't been done yet.
  8. I think that there is absolutely no chance for that whatsoever, there is little more than 2 months to the release. Looking back at what has been done in the last few months, you really hope they will do a complete overhaul ? Don't think so !
  9. Well, I know that sound was a little too low at the beggining of the stream, but still I think that combat feels very silent. Mages are mumbling something under their noses when casting spells, spells make only 1 second noise when casted. There is no difference between hitting an enemy with pike or club, there's always the same "woob" sound. When someone passes out, there is no sound like "aaaaaarghhh !!!". Also, there was no music during fights (They propably turned it off on purpose). For me, it seemed extremely bleak and it doesn't feel intense enough. It doesn't feel like those characters are fighting for their lives, it's rather like they are just butchering those monsters for meat. There's nothing like "Go for the eyes Boo, go for the eyes !!", no intense, orchestral music, you won't find here any loud screams when doing a critical hit etc. For me it seems a little dissapointing. What do you guys think ?
  10. Voice acting in current state is horrible, they need to mix it some other way. When it comes to music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CVVSJKod-I I doubt if PoE or new Torment will ever come close.
  11. I still can't figure it out how can pathfinding be done the way it is now. I just watch it and cry.
  12. Nice work you've done there! But no. BG is there to play. Let's try something else, something new. No? It's not my work ! Just found it on another forums.
  13. It's weird that in Temple of Elemental Evil they did 3d characters in 2d environment too, but I really never thought of any problems regarding this fact while playing. Of course, it was turn based, but even in close range, things were just more clear. And the more I think of it, perhaps PoE would be a better experience if it had a turn based combat, instead of this weird thing we got now. Oh well, maybe it won't be so bad.
  14. Yup, combat feels way too fast and it's not only what Sensuki pointed out. There are so many things that contribute to combat feeling clunky, like - camera angle, poor/not enough character animations, unreadable graphics, unclear spell casting time and casting animations, there are too many things going on in the background, making the "invisible" combat, there is not enough space between characters and enemes, so that engagement is too fast. There 's no balance between spell casting time, and enemies getting in melee range with your characters. There is many more, and sadly, pretty much nothing important was fixed yet.
  15. I'm all for removing the melee engagement system. You have my bow (for kiting) and my sword/axe ! (for disengagement attacks).
  16. As I said before, any fix to the current combat system is possible only if Obsidian acknowledges the fact, that it is really far from ideal. As for now, they seems to be pretty happy about it, so I really doubt that any insightful suggestions on this forum will be applied on the release. I'm pretty sure that they are not planning any big changes to the gameplay, as it would propably make more problems for them. Combat doesn't feel good but apparently, it feels good enough for Obsidian. Oh, well. Maybe someday there will be a true successor to the IE games, but I have a feeling, that it will be not this game.
  17. Seriously, who is voting for the current HUD UI ? Bunch of ignorants...
  18. I'm pretty sure that Sensuki will enjoy making those suggestions more than the actual game ;d
