They didn't exactly have plans to release the extended endings until the huge backlash from fans was so great that even media started to pick up on the controversial endings. I mean, yeah, they did it for free. But it was entirely a damage control/reputation thing. Maybe I'm reading your post wrong, but you sound like they're praising them for giving their fans free DLC because it was a business strategy from the start, sort of like CDPR's giving away new DLC each week was a business strategy from the start, not just tacked on after the game released because their rep took a massive hit. If there wasn't the same sort of anger or backlash, they had zero plans to even make the extended endings.

Just started Last Light. A lot easier to get into the story when I know what's going on.

Mass Effect 4 - will a dispraiser of Mass Effect 3 enjoy it?
GhostofAnakin replied to samm's topic in Computer and Console
The author seems to think that all your crew members from the original trilogy showing up in Andromeda would be a good thing, but seriously, that would be stupid beyond belief. New story, new story arc, new characters. Don't be cheap and add existing characters just for fandom. -
That likely contributed to me not getting the good ending. I didn't play much stealth, either, so I just butchered enemies I came across.
-
You mean the tripping balls sequence at the end? Yeah, that was... something. Did you get the bad ending or the good ending ? Regardless of which ending you get in 2033, the bad ending is canon in Last Light. Thankfully, Last Light has a more satisfying less WTF ending, plus it's just overall a better game to boot. I got the bad ending. I was never given the option for a good ending, even though, as far as I can recall, I wasn't a jerk throughout the game and did some saintly stuff (gave the poor kid money, didn't take the bullets from the chick, etc.).

Isn't there a monthly fee to play this?

Finished Metro 2033 tonight. That ending ... ummm ... yeah. I think I've found a contender to Mass Effect 3 in terms of a "what the eff did I just play through to end the game?" moment. Seriously, WTF was that?

George Martin lost steam after the third book. Books IV and V (the last one, especially) weren't as good, IMO. Then of course there's the issue with how friggin' long he takes to write subsequent books. Dances was released, I believe, in 2010. I'm not even sure when the next is out. Maybe late this year/early 2016. I start to lose interest in a series when I have to wait half a decade or more to read the next installment.

Dragon Age: Inquisition vs The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
GhostofAnakin replied to ktchong's topic in Computer and Console
Of all the wacky posts in this thread, this one makes the least sense. -
Duel-wielding rogue the first time, mage the second. I hated the first, enjoyed the second. Combat, IMO, doesn't favor duel-wielding rogues. Whereas if you specialize as a Knight-Enchanter, you can take on dragons all by yourself.

That's a back-asswards way of doing things. I figured lower difficulty would make it easier to kill the enemies, not turn them into bullet sponges.

I hate, hate, HATE the section in Metro 2033 when you're on the railcar and have to make it through that station with all those enemies shooting at you. Hate it. Mainly because you can't move or really duck out of the way, yet they're firing at you relentlessly and don't miss a single shot. I barely got through it on the easiest difficulty level. I can't even imagine on the hardest.

Trying Metro 2033 again. Hopefully this time my save game file won't get corrupted and ruin hours of gameplay.

Finished up all the intel in CoD Advanced Warfare. That allowed me to fully upgrade my Exo suit, thus finishing off two achievements in one. I gotta repeat, I think the SP campaign in Advanced Warfare is the best of the entire series. It's just too bad this is a new story arc, so I can't go back and play a previous installment of it.
-
I guess my game's not glitched after all. All I need is to find 4 more pieces of intel and I'll have enough upgrade points to fully upgrade my Exo suit. It will kill two achievements with one stone, too, with both the fully upgraded Exo suit as well as the achievement for finding all intel.
-
I happened to like the newest XCOM game. Granted, it was my first foray into the series, so I had nothing to compare it to. But I enjoyed it thoroughly (though I didn't get it until the enhanced version was released).
-
I think my game of CoD Advanced Warfare is glitched. I don't think I can fully upgrade my exo suit in the single player campaign. I'm not getting any upgrade points after finishing missions, and the only other thing that I'm missing out on is two of the challenges, which will (at most) earn me 1 point each for a total of 2 more points. I need 4, total, in order to finish all upgrades.

Cancelled Obsidian game - STORMLANDS
GhostofAnakin replied to Infinitron's topic in Obsidian General
My blind faith in Obsidian. -
Did you play Halo 2? It wasn't one dimensional at all. EDIT: To note; I think all the Halo's have terrible single player campaigns (Halo 2 included), but Halo 2 had a dang good story. It certainly wasn't "one dimensional". It's been a loooooong time since I've played the Halo games, so maybe I'm misremembering. However, I don't recall anything more than a rather simplistic story. Granted, I'm usually comparing them to RPG stories, which tend to have more depth/content to them.

Thinking more on it, I'd say Advanced Warfare's single player story was the best of the entire series. The most coherent, anyway, even if it was straightforward and kind of predictable.

Cancelled Obsidian game - STORMLANDS
GhostofAnakin replied to Infinitron's topic in Obsidian General
Why do all the cool sounding games get cancelled, yet publishers greenlight some real headscratchers that end up being terrible? -
Finished the CoD Advanced Warfare single player campaign. It was pretty good, just a bit on the short side. I wasn't able to fully upgrade my Exo suit. Probably didn't complete enough challenges or something. Only got 17 of 22 upgrades. So that's something I may end up going back trying to finish. I doubt I'll play the MP component. Tried it when the game first came out, but I didn't like it at all.
-
It's been a while since I played Halo 4, but I didn't notice any difference in the writing between it and the previous 3 Halo games. They were all the same general, one-dimensional story whose only purpose was to move the game along so the player can shoot more things.
-
It's been in development since 2011, according to that Wiki article. It's set to be released in 2016. A five year development cycle is pretty long nowadays, is it not?

So does Halo. So much so, I think Bioware copied Bungie like a junior-high school term-paper plagiarist. For example, the Citadel holographic girl-computer, as well as the Normandy girl-computer EDI, are pretty much exact replicas of Cortana. Whichever game gave BioWare the inspiration for that annoying crucible star child also should rot in hell, then.
