Mage is the best class, IMO. It also fits the best with the story, again IMO. A distant second for me is a bow wielding rogue, mainly because some of the abilities are pretty fun to use. Duel-wielding daggers rogue sucks, IMO. Sword and shield warriors are great tanks who just use guard and never fall. One handed warriors are sort of like duel-wielding rogues: they suck. I think mage is the best class but also enjoyed the bow and dual wielding rogue both. Dual wielding became more fun when adding the specialization. I think part of the problem (IMO) with the fighter classes is that there is, ultimately, so little utility for them. They have a specific role and they do that role and little else. There's a bit more versatality with the other classes. This of course makes dwarves a bit duff, IMO, as they can't be mages, so half their classes are kinda dull. I'm nearing, I think, the end of Jaws of Hakkon. I think I liked The Descent better, but I like the Deep Roads stuff a good bit in previous games. I just found duel-wielding rogues to be too easily killed, yet not delivering that much extra damage (relatively speaking) to have them along in place of a warrior as a melee option. I found that having two warriors act as shields and damage sponges up front, with two ranged attackers (usually a mage and an archer rogue) worked best in most combat encounters, and particularly well versus the tougher bosses. That's why I rarely had Cole in my party.

Still playing through Mad Max. I took down my first convoy. The grappling hook works wonders. Just aim it at the driver of each vehicle and systematically take them out with it. It's cool that you can steal the cars of the enemies you come across, then when you bring them back to your safehouse they're added to your inventory of cars. But I've found they're nowhere as useful as the car you drive in the story missions, so I haven't really seen the point in actually using them.

It really is a fun game. The only drawback I might find is I'm getting distracted doing all the side stuff and driving around the map that I'm barely paying attention to the main quest.

The only person I ever micromanage (other than my own character) in combat is the mage. I let my melee fighters do their own AI-directed thing, but I like to have control over what spells my mage uses. I find the AI doesn't pick the right ones at the right time if I let them control the mage.

You can still cancle the order and then buy it again. I needed the two orders combined (game and book) to qualify for free shipping. If I cancel the order and re-order each separately, the book order won't meet the free shipping requirement. In any case, I e-mailed them to complain and now they're separating my order and shipping when each individual item is available, but not charging me for the extra shipping. So I guess that works. Heh, in germany book orders are always free of shipping costs, no matter the price. At least on Amazon... No idea if it's a general thing.. Usually only buy my books on Amazon. In Canada, Amazon requires an order to be $25 or more to qualify for free shipping. That's usually not an issue for me as I tend to order two or three books at once. It became an issue this time because I only ordered two books plus the MGS game. The two books only came to around $19 (both paperbacks).

Ugh. Amazon screwed me over a bit. I pre-ordered Metal Gear solid because it said on their site the game would be released September 1st. I go to check on my order and now the site says that the game will be available on September 10th. If it had listed the 10th as when Amazon would have it available, I would have just got it somewhere else. The delay itself isn't a big deal (though it's still irksome that they list one date for pre-order, then change it when the game is out), but the fact I also ordered books with it and now my books are on hold until the 10th because I'd indicated for the entire order to be shipped at the same time (since I thought MGS would be available the 1st anyway). At least I have Mad Max to keep me occupied for the next two weeks. But geez, not happy at all right now.

My car seems to be smashed to bits every time I engage an enemy vehicle. They also always seem able to tail me and somehow move around to smash me in the side with their car's front bumper in a split second it takes me to turn.

Bought Mad Max. I'm right at the beginning. I think I'm going to enjoy the combat since it reminds me of the Batman games' melee combat.

I'd rank DAI's sidequests as, by far, the most boring of any BioWare game. In large part because of that complete disconnect from the main story. I don't think it helped matters that The Witcher 3 came out just a bit after DAI, and one of its strengths was actually its sidequests.

Yeah, it almost feels like they decided to make an open world MMO, with just random fetch quests that you could do with a bunch of friends but that weren't very in depth, but then remembered it also has to be a single player game and tacked on a short story set in the same world, even if the two don't interact with one another all that much. It was just a bad design decision to go forward with.
-
Only way I can push through replaying that game is by sticking to the main questline as much as possible. The side content, by and large, is incredibly boring. I still don't know how they came to the decision to make it "open world" and thought those quests would be good.

MGSV. Everything about it is just freaking awesome. The game runs at a fluid 60 fps on the PS4 and the story, the characters, the gameplay, the graphics...everything is top notch. Yeah, I'm going to be getting both anyways. I guess my indecision is more geared toward which one I'm going to play first. It might end up being Mad Max simply because I ordered MGS from Amazon (thanks to the discount) and won't receive it in the mail until probably Thursday or Friday. Whereas I'm just going to the store to pick up Mad Max on Tuesday.

So I decided to pre-order Metal Gear Solid V through Amazon. They were selling it for less to start with than any other place I saw, plus they were giving a 10% discount on various pre-order games (MGS was obviously one of them). So I figured why not. The downside is I'm going to have to wait until probably Thursday or Friday for it to arrive. Amazon doesn't typically ship games until the actual release date, meaning by the time it makes it through transit it'll be 2 or 3 days later (hopefully not more -- Amazon's usually pretty fast with deliveries).

Anyone tried NG+ yet? Thoughts?

That actually looks like a decent DLC. It looks like the kind of DLC I was hoping for before JoH and Descent were released.
-
It's almost September 1st. Mad Max or Metal Gear Solid V? Decisions, decisions.
-
I'm looking forward to this game. Probably will do the lazy thing and buy it online, so it won't arrive until a couple of days after release.

I'm pretty sure there's something in the options screen that allows you to turn off the question marks. That might be a better way to go, so you don't necessarily see the hundreds of question marks that only lead to a chest full of useless loot.

I'm surprised there's no discussion of the latest Dragon Age Inquisition DLC. Haven't played it, but every review I've read suggests it's kind of a waste of time. Bad story, bland new characters, and back to the old tunnel approach where the maps seem so constrictive. The only positive I've seen is the combat is tougher. What happened to Bio making solid DLC? They've sort of gone the quantity over quality approach, whereby they add filler just for the sake of a]earning more money and b]saying there's DLC content so no one can complain.
-
I'm tempted to play The Witcher 3 again, with the new NG+ feature. I'm trying to hold off, though, because I'd rather wait until the first expansion is released in October. I just wish I had something else to play instead. Maybe it's time I picked up the new Batman.

Funnily enough, bugs/performance problems weren't on my list of things I disliked about DA:I. The only one that seems to persist is more an atmosphere-ruining one, where party banter isn't anywhere near what they advertised it would be. The majority of the time I'm stomping around a map and no one in the party is saying a word. They also never bothered to improve the walking animations for the female characters. It's still Planet of the Apes whenever one of the females does any sort of striding in cutscenes.

One thing I hate about having a good memory is that I never forgot what happens next in a game I've already played, even if I haven't played it for years and years. Makes finding games to replay difficult.
