  1. ...ummm...yeah; like the Monte Cook Ranger woulda been horrific fer Wizards o' the Crapper ta let in IWD2; ya mean decisions like that...there be a difference 'tween makin' sure theys git the rules an' such right an' jus' bein' pricks fer the simple reason that they can...D&D wasna made ta be light an' fluffy material, either; ne'er has it been or will it e'er be Family Oriented fer the masses ta enjoy...A D&D gamer ain't yer ordinary, run-o'-the-mill gamer; we's a different breed...Wizards o' the Crapper should be makin' D&D fer us, theys fanbase; not tryin' ta make it all cute & fuzzy fer the masses; cuz it'll ne'er be a game fer the general populus... ...WHO LUVS YA, BABY!!... I never said I disagreed with you about the guidelines portion being family oriented or not. That was Hasbro's doing. I think the founder of WotC left after the acquisition and didn't agree with some of these decisions. But the not being allowed to use the Monte Cook Ranger was a no brainer in my opinion. That's not official D&D material. Icewind Dale 2 wanted to be called an official D&D game; hence no Monte Cook Ranger.
  2. Yes because as we all know only Interplay's forums has ever had icons for a thumbs up or thumbs down. The idea of this thread wasn't bad in my opinion but it appears to have derailed.
  3. ...yes, dwarf; yes, we does...Wemics must eventually 'ave theys Time in the Sun...I say Unca Feargie et all should make a Planescape-deep, IWD-action, BG-long D&D Epic wit' a Wemic frontman... ...WHO LUVS YA, BABY!!... But what about the +8 ECL that Wemics receives in Third Edition? Somewhat puts them at a disadvantage. But this sounds good: "a Planescape-deep, IWD-action, BG-long D&D Epic"
  4. I want a game with the rules implementation (WITHOUT BUGS) of TOEE and the storyline and roleplaying of Icewind Dale 1 or BG series. That would satisfy me. I really like the tactical options that D&D gives you. Make it FR, Eberron or Greyhawk. I guess preferably Greyhawk or Eberron so it would be something new.
  5. Because they own the D&D brand name and trademark and they want to ensure that it maintains a certain reputation and consistency? In practice, D&D CRPGs also help sell P&P D&D games as well. I don't have a problem with them so much. It's Hasbro after they bought WotC that introduced these new family oriented guidelines regarding content because Hasbro wants to maintain a family oriented image. But rather than complain about it, developers should just look hard at them and then work within those guidelines to still make a good game. It's not impossible.
  6. Hmm... I am surprised at the low number of Asians. That's where the most populous countries in the world are. I guess this means that the majority of Obsidian's potential customers are western, either North America, Europe or Australia.
  7. Actually, I wasn't being serious and was trying to be sarcastic. The point being if you broaden the definition of RPG as it seems to have been broadened for years it gets to the point where you can no longer say what an RPG is. That's a mistake in my opinion. If in doubt, the classical definitions should have more say in the matter. Go back to AD&D and other classic P&P RPGs for the definition.
  8. I agree. It was an interesting premise and if Josh was working at any company other than Interplay it would have been completed and been a great game, probably comparable to Planescape Torment in some ways.
  9. Nowadays makes a lot more sense. Someone may be a good programmer but he may not be a good artist, music composer or story designer. For instance, I think I am a good programmer but I would never try to do art or music myself as I know I have no talent there nor would I ever try to be. Today's games are more complex than games back then. Besides, more than one person developing a game == game coming out sooner. That's always been the case. BioWare actually has 50-70 people working on Jade Empire. Whoever said console games are cheaper in general was full of it. They COULD have thirty projects going on but they don't because it's impractical. I agree about the Ultimas of course but even with Ultima 4 on there were more people involved than just Richard Garriot.
  10. When in doubt, blame Maldonado. I know I do. But seriously, cutscenes are pretty lame - especially when they involve the character doing something. I'd much rather retain control over my character as opposed to being forced to sit back and watch something that may or may not fit my ideas and goals. KotOR did this a lot, actually. If you were going for the dark side, and were trying to mug someone, many times it would result in a cutscene where your party members would tell the person to run away leaving you with no money and a dark point. On top of that, there's nothing you can do to scold or maim the party members for their actions. We're talking wussy evil here. One of the main problems with KOTOR is that you couldn't initiate combat at any time you chose and you should be able to do that for more evil options or perhaps just a more chaotic good path than lawful good.
  11. You mean the only thing missing on this forum to turn it into the Interplay boards? THIS IS NOT THE INTERPLAY FORUM THIS IS NOT THE INTERPLAY FORUM THIS IS NOT THE INTERPLAY FORUM Whenever you think about this again, repeat the above. This forum is in the pits enough already without ninety percent of posts consisting solely of "" or the infinitely venerable "", either quite possibly combined with the inordinately profound "I agree" or "I disagree", respectively. No if it was the Interplay forums it would be  and  :D
  12. I would say it's possible they may have a second title in development (preproduction perhaps) but only one title in active development, based on their number of resources at this time.
  13. I'd rather it just be some guy. I like Icewind Dale 2 where you were just mercenaries. The Chosen One plot has been WAY overdone too many times. I think the upcoming game The Bard's Tale will even poke some fun in places at that RPG 'tradition'.
  14. I think so as well. Lucas trying to sell Star Wars toys and merchandise by catering to kids. <_< You know I saw the first Star Wars movie in 1977 when I was six. That may have been considered a more adult oriented movie but I loved it and I still have all of the action figures and other toys from that time period (probably worth a bit). My point is I don't think Lucas needed to make a movie oriented to children in order for it to be marketable to children.
  15. I think just one. They only have 20-30 employees tops which I think is only enough for one game.
  16. I am not surprised that there was no mention of midichlorians (that's the correct spelling, I looked it up through google) in the EU. It was a bad idea to begin with. I suppose one explanation is that they are attracted by people strong in the force and are not the force itself but nothing official has been said as to their origin.
  17. I hear FOBOS also had product placement for Ballz
  18. By these definitions even Pong could be considered an RPG. Roleplaying a sliding bar across the screen as you are playing the role of a paddle. <_< How vague or open do you really want to make the definition of RPG? In short, in ALL games you play a "role" of some sort.
  19. Not really actually. The moderators seem to be showing alot of latitude in posts allowed actually. That will undoubtedly change when there are more posts and more volume of people.
  20. As well as Interplay not publishing it so it can get the support it would need and unlike the first one is not shipped before it's ready. <_<
  21. And we all know Canada is the 51st State.
  22. I remember that, I just forgot what the hell the things do (and what they were called). I was under the impression they don't create the force, but they are just present in greater numbers inside those that have the force. or something. They left it vague in the movies at to their exact nature. However, I think since Anakin was fatherless, Qui-Gon mentioned the possibility of the midichlorians being the parent. Maybe they expanded the idea in the EU but given most people's opinion of that idea I'd be surprised. <_<
  23. what the hell is that? According to Qui-Gon, microscopic organisms present in all of us that are what make the force. The more of them the more force. Yeh pure baloney. That's why Attack of the Clones just didn't bother with it. They only mentioned them in Phantom Menace I think as a way of measuring Anakin's force potential. Why bother. The Force works better as an abstract concept.
