  1. Well, I fail to see the difference between that and personal ambition. The Sith may preach that as their higher goal, but to me it just sounds like an excuse for doing what they selfishly want to do.
  2. Not according to Tolkien himself.
  3. Frodo passed into the west with Gandalf and Bilbo, so essentially we don't know if he died - they're called the "undying lands" after all... Unless you want to call that symbolic for death, which many do. Still, it doesn't change that the quest cost him his life, because it did - it left him scarred to the point where he could never return to his old life and find rest or solace or even joy in it again.

Yea - Spain wins and are champions. They totally deserved it too - far better than the germans today. Congrats.
  5. Kreia? Not talk? Unlikely...
  6. You're comparing two very different situations. Anakin is analyzing his situation and still cannot control his emotions, whereas Luke is in the spur of the moment both fighting for his life and confronting the threat of his worst nightmares come true. Not the same. Even Obi-Wan is emotional and angry upon watching Darth Maul kill Qui-Gon. Or will you claim he approached the subsequent fight with Maul with self-control and restraint? Didn't look so to me - I saw rage in Obi-Wan's eyes. No, the jedi just try to focus on other emotions like compassion and even love (though they don't pursue it). The Vulcans bury any and all emotions under self-control, unlike the jedi and sith. The sith do not have higher ideals to hold onto, only themselves. It gives them power, but also makes them overconfident. That's a big part of why they frequently fail against the jedi. The other is that they cannot cooperate or trust each other - every sith is ultimately alone, because other jedi try to kill them for being evil, while other sith try to kill them to take their place and power. Thus they know no trust. But the jedi do and can cooperate, which is another pretty big advantage for the jedi.
  7. Alternatively, you can try to "break him on your will", which basically means that if the influence drops to 0 (in Bao-Dur's case that would mean having him in the group to disapprove of all your DS choices), the character stops resisting you and tells you all his/her secrets. They'll have an opposing alignment, however, and I don't think you can "jedify" them in that case... Anybody remember? I think it does, depending on class. The LS/DS mastery bonus is not the same for all classes, you know. I must admit that I don't remember which class grants what bonus, though. I think that's a bug in the conversation with Hanharr that allows you to finish the conversations with him and get the bonus, but not complete it and so do it over and over. I don't quite remember it, though, since I've played DS only very rarely, so maybe DeathScepter should just explain it instead of me getting it wrong.
  8. And the crystal has nine "levels" in five possible "alignments" (LS, LS/Neutral, Neutral, DS/Neutral and DS), so make sure you bring it to Kreia repeatedly. The ninth level is totally uber-powered and munchkin. Take a look at its stats on level 9 if LS: Strength: +5 Dexterity: +6 Wisdom: +7 Damage: +10 Light Side vs Dark Side +5 Light Side Attack: +3 Slow, 25% for 6sec, DC22
  9. Whoa, hold on a second. Are we discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the dark side and light side by comparison, or are we talking about good vs. evil as represented by the light side and the dark side respectively in Star Wars. Because that is not the same discussion, and the latter one is an undead topic at that - philosophers have struggled with that one for centuries if not millennia, so I see that discussion as valid only if we're all able to accept up front that there won't be any conclusion. No. They're not, but let me get into that below. Suffice it to say that even if they were good to begin with, good intentions are what the road to Hell is paved with. No, Vader is evil because he does evil things. If you do evil then you are evil. You could argue that you might be forced to do a lesser evil for the greater good, but that still makes that action evil. That's what it means that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions, because once you accept that "lesser evil for the greater good" then it becomes much easier to accept the next "lesser evil" when the time comes. And Anakin's reasons are not benevolent, no matter he says. Sure, he claims he wants to protect the republic when the jedi try to seize power, that he does it all out of love to save Padm
  10. Boromir was not a background character - he was a member of the Fellowship, after all. And if KotOR3 has a new main character, then Revan and exile will by defintion have to in the background. Or would you claim Revan was a major character in TSL? We heard about him, sure, but we never met him or even learned what had finally become of him, just that where he had gone when disappeared four years before. Yes but its a Saga. And Star Wars isn't?
  11. Sounds to me like a hardware error. Have you tried switching your keyboard? If you try that and the problem persists, it could be a hardware problem within the pc itself, I fear. But it sounds far more likely to me that the keyboard is faulty and notes a particular key being pressed constantly or often. Fortunately keyboards are easy - even if you don't have an old one handy, they're fairly cheap depending on quality.
  12. Since you put that in spoiler tags yourself...
  13. Dooku was thinking 'hah, last time I cut this young pup's hand off - I'll do worse to him this time...'. In short, he underestimated how Anakin had grown in the meantime making him old+overconfident, which usually adds up to disaster... Let's not begin that undead topic again... Lots of people argue there is no way Palpatine threw that fight, and it didn't look like that to me either. The only thing I think really speaks for it is the timing - if Anakin had arrived just a few instants earlier or later, either the duel would still have been evenly matched or Windu would have killed Palpatine. That always seemed too convenient to me. Nihilus is a special case in that the exile was unique since Nihilus could not drain him and effectively brought about his own destruction by trying. Sion was not defeated but convinced to die, since his existence was to painful and pointless. And Kreia wanted to die at the exile's hand. Bandon was a pushover of an upstart punk. Even lowly Trask Ulgo could hold him off long enough for Revan and Carth to escape. You got a pretty big problem there, though, since LA/Lucas decide the facts in Star Wars. If George says the Light Side is stronger, then that's it. I consider these significant, Plagueis because of how much power Sidious ascribes to him, while we know Sidious is the most powerful Sith ever (according to George), and because Sidious and Vader are the two most potent Sith ever (again according to George). This means the siths who were probably the greatest in history were not killed by LS jedi. Yoda couldn't destroy Sidious, and neither did Luke. Indeed, I consider the dark side slightly more power for the same reason - the greatest threats the sith have ever presented seem to be destroyed by other sith. The dark side undermines itself, and since the light and dark seem evenly matched despite this, with LS having the advantage of trust among its followers, I'd say the DS would have to be slightly stronger. If it were not, then why is it the jedi cannot eradicate it and the sith despite their collaborative efforts? The sith don't have that trust - sith only cooperate when it is advantageous to all involved, and even then betrayal is planned before the point comes along where the mutual disadvantage ends. Also add to the list: Freedon Nadd's spirit was killed by Exar Kun. Naga Sadow was killed/destroyed by Freedon Nadd. Pre-KotOR1 Revan defeated/captured through Malak's treachery. Ludo Kressh killed by Naga Sadow with both their fleets and followers killing each other. Yes, the republic was there, but they just watched them kill each other, then axed the wounded survivors.
  14. Boromir was not a background character - he was a member of the Fellowship, after all. And if KotOR3 has a new main character, then Revan and exile will by defintion have to in the background. Or would you claim Revan was a major character in TSL? 15. 1. So those who "don't choose the right (i.e., canon) genders" just get shafted? Then we're back to irate parts of the fanbase again. Besides, even if do go by canon, I'd much rather watch Revan/Bastila. A Revan/exile romance would be make canon Revan a liar, since he converted Bastila back to the light side by admitting his feelings towards her. If he then goes for the exile, that makes him a liar. Besides, considering what we learn in TSL, I don't get the impression Revan and exile ever liked each other much, or at least Revan didn't view the exile as anything but a chesspawn. 2. Nonsense. I have no faith in the dark side, except its ability to assuredly undermine itself. You got me all wrong - I'm not a sith. I don't have a Darth [insert cool+rearkicking-sounding name here] alias. I just don't believe that LS/good means being stupid or gullible, nor can I abide when benevolence is being made synomous with ignorance or blind faith. But that doesn't change that I'm the pillar of all things light sided and ethical 3. Okay, then. Roughly "He who remains silent is understood to consent." 4. They all interbred with the dark jedi, the entire species. The Golden Age of the Sith and Fall of the Sith Empire comic book series establish that. After the Hundred Years Darkness, the Sith Empire was founded around 6900 BBY with the Sith species pretty much gone by the Great Hyperspace War in 5000 BBY about 1900 years later. KotOR is about 1050 years after that. That doesn't leave much chance of any being left. Besides, why would we want them to be? As a society, the original sith were primitive and nowhere as sophisticated as they became as part of the Sith Empire when they interbred with the dark jedi. 5. "Careful, Atris - anger leads to the dark side."
  16. Yes, it's normal - Sith look demonish and evil with misshapen faces like Palpatine or evil-coloured eyes like Anakin. This is how the game interprets that, though it does tend to look a little more grey/vampire-like than demonish, if you ask me. It also leads to some weird situations, like when Atton tells me he is concerned by the choices I make and how they have begun to be noticeable on me physically even as he looks far, far worse than I do... The LS doesn't do that, of course - they're just angelic people whose faces are never corrupted by evil, right?
  17. That depends entirely on the circumstances. Character death can be potent if done for plot reasons. For example. J.R.R. Tolkien did not kill Boromir in "The Lord of the Rings" because he didn't know what to do with the character - his death has long-lasting and deep consequences that are essential to the following plot development. You could say it's lazy writing to then kill of characters in the background, but even then I'd consider the deaths of Hicks and Newt in Alien3 to not be so, since it means Ripley is now alone again and must face danger without allies, thus serving a reason in the plot. "Lazy death" is more like in the end of KotOR1, when LS Revan tries to redeem Malak, but he refuses and then conveniently drops over dead. I could accept if Revan and/or exile are killed, if it serves a plot reason, but then it has to be for that reason - not because the writers couldn't figure out what to do with them and so killed them off in the background during the opening title crawl. If we can think of stuff to do with them in K3 without gender or alignment being a problem, then surely professional developers can too. You can do different endings for different people. The Fallout games have something like that. I'd expect it to more flashy and movie-like for K3 given the age of those games, but dramatically there is nothing that says that is not perfectly valid.
  18. 1. Then it will not happen, since it would require far too much work for the programmers to develop all those progressive "trees" of plot it would require. Look at the two games so far - you can take LS or DS or whatever route you wish on each world, but the net outcome is effectively always the same. The difference lies only in how you get there. Why is that? Because the overall plot needs to remain unchanged by your choices. Revan can go LS or DS at the end of KotOR, but he still has to go to the Starforge and fight his way through hordes of dark jedi and droids and then kick Malak's rear... The major difference are the cutscenes. 2. No. But I can slice you open with my lightsaber, take them, and then say thank you 3. Qui tacet consentire videtur. 4. Ah, but then you're talking about the descendants of the Sith Empire, not the Sith species, since they have long since been interbred with the human dark jedi to such a degree that none are left. In that case we would agree. I think the true Sith might be descendants of the Sith Empire, which both Kreia and Sion refer to, though Sion puts its existence way to long into the past. I've always noted with interest that Kreia mentions the second Great Schism in relation to the Jedi Civil War - the formation of the Sith Empire was the direct result of the second Great Schism. 5. "I'm a Hutt in human form plotting to overthrow the Republic."
  19. Eh, the race on the unkown planet was the Rakata. A force-sensitive race like Miraluka's who used the dark side to build their technology, their most famous invention being the Star Forge. True Sith is another race... Sith is a race.... thats the name of the race... Sith. Search Rakata on Wookieepedia. 1. Agreed... 2. Huh? I thought the level caps were the same in both games... I haven't played one as much though. Whats level caps? 3. Not sure how trhis could work but yeah, should happen. 4. Mentioned earlier, so agreed I guess. 5. Ofc 6. Yes please :D 7. yeah. We don't know who the true Sith are. We just know who they are not. They are not the Sith species - they have long since vanished - descendants of the Sith Empire would be a different matter, but they were all human/sith halfbreeds by the time their empire fell. And the true Sith are NOT the rakata. It's true the rakata were powerful DS users and went to many worlds, including Korriban, but they were never on Malachor V, the mysteries of which were founded by the true Sith. 1. I had no trouble killing her off on the highest difficulty levels. She's not a pushover, no. You have approach her with care. But she still went down like she was supposed to. Especially easy if you're DS and have taken care of her floating lightsabers - just spam the Force Crush power... 2. KotOR1 level caps at 20, while TSL does it 50, meaning your character cannot be above level 20 combined (like level 5 scout + level 15 jedi guardian). TSL allows up to fifty total levels, which completely redundant - unless you exploit bugs and opportunities in the game, you'll usually reach the endgame by level 27-28. I tried to push my character upwards, but by the time I reached level 43 I just couldn't bother anymore. 3. It can. Valid plots have been suggested in this topic several times already. 4. Still - canon should be optional in the games. Always. 5. Trouble is how to pull that off dramatically. 6. Obviously. 7. Hah, I wish...
  20. Actually, a real Sith would pay the money, say thank you, then slice the beggar in two and take his money. No, on second thought, he would slice the beggar in two and taken his money, and then say thank you. You might just as well argue that they only put the effect in the game and that powers like Force Shield are used constantly in the movies, only we don't see them. There is no visible signs of Obi-Wan using Cure on Luke in Ep. IV, yet one moment he is on the ground knocked cold by sand people and the second he recovers as Ben bends over above him. For example, in the Star Ward D20 RPG, which KotOR is based on, force powers are skills, not granted powers, and some are sublte. Battlemind, for example, gives the user a bonus to his attacks, while Force Defense gives him a bonus to saves against force attacks, making it similar to Force Resistance in the computer games. I think we can assume such powers are used in the movies, yet we never see visible evidence of them, only the end effect. If Windu had a recording, then why didn't he just leave and present that to the senate instead of trying to kill his "prisoner"? Policemen are not allowed to execute murderers - that's for the court to decide. Policemen may kill, but they are permitted to do so only in obvious defense of their own life or that of others. There's an important distinction there. And when Windu persists to proceed to use lethal force, he oversteps the limits of the jedi because he tries to effect political change according to his own wishes in a system he is sworn to protect. If you want political change, then you join the next election - you don't sneak up from behind with a dagger. Now, of course Palpatine is evil and manipulative. He calculated this would happen. He needed it too. He thought the jedi would not be able to resist trying to remove him by force, which he could then later use to infer that they attempted a political coup d'etat to take power in the republic, effectively throwing liberty and democracy away. And he was right too. And Windu also violates the jedi code - the jedi don't kill their prisoners. That's exactly what he tried to do. The above sentence about Obi-Wan makes no sense to me. Yes, he was less skilled in combat than Darth Maul, but certainly not less skilled than Vader - Obi-Wan trained Vader and years if not decades of experience before that. Indeed, Obi-Wan won the duel on Mustafar exactly because he had greater experience with which to match Anakin's greater power.
  21. The solari crystal is LS only, but unlike the qixoni, it is found only randomly, meaning you could play many times without getting it. But you can use the qixoni even if you're LS. You just need the <FullName> crystal from the Kinrath cave on Dantooine. It is whatever alignment you are if you let Kreia 'adjust' it, so it is LS if you're LS. And if you put a LS only crystal in a lightsaber along with a DS only crystal, their alignment restrictions will neutralize each other and you can use the saber, even if you're LS. but do you get the benefits of both then personal LS crystal and the Qixoni one? Yes. They are all cumulative.
  22. Bumping is not allowed. It also equals necroposting, and you know what that means...
  23. A black hat with a matching moustache for Malak to twirl
  24. 1. I don't understand. You say you have to start over, but then point to difference in level. If you mean for Revan and exile to start over, then no. Just plain no. Having either or both of them become amnesic and lose all their power AGAIN would strain credibility beyond belief. It would just be too stupid an example of game mechanic. Besides, just because a new character begins at level one, that doesn't cause a problem if you don't encounter Revan and/or Exile until later in the game when you have achieved an at least comparable level. I'd make them both the new character's level +2 and then either not let the character meet them until he/she was level 18 or else not make them playable and thus their level immaterial. 1a. Revan's gender and alignment is optional in TSL, so you can choose the one you had in K1. I hate the idea of a Revan/exile relationship, but it doesn't matter because it won't happen, since a good portion of the fanbase would reject a fixed gender/alignment for either character and not buy the game, and LA know that. For example, I will always consider the exile male no matter what anyone tells me, and a good number of female players insist Revan is a woman. Add in the DS-fans, and you'll have a split fanbase that you can sell the only to a portion of then moment you force gender. Heck, even the KotOR comic books have steered clear of the gender/alignment can of worms for Revan. So no, no Revan/exile romance. Period. *Influence lost* 2. No, I don't. What, do you think you're a jedi, waving your hand around like that? 3. Gray jedi, yes. D20... Well, we're stuck with it now whether it sucks or rocks 4. Oh, not that again. First, by the time of the Great Hyperspace War, which is more than a millennium before the KotOR games, the Sith species was practically extinct through the inbreeding with the dark jedi exiled by the republic and then jedi after the Hundred Years Darkness. Second, apart from the rakata having been on Korriban, which is just as true for Dantooine, Tatooine and Manaan, there is no evidence of there being any connection. Third, they are NOT particularly attuned to the force. They have no great force powers or ancient dark force heritage. The Sith Empire was founded when the Sith species were conquered by and then began learning the dark side secrets FROM the dark jedi exiled from the republic by the jedi. The Sith were the slaves of the dark jedi rulers, but they interbred so much that by the time of Ragnos, Sadow and Kressh, there was only a mixed species left with some being more or less human - Sadow being closer to humans than most. The Massassi do not count as this "oh so ancient uber-Sith" either because they were both the warrior class of the Sith species and created through Sith Alchemy, which - again - has it's origin with the exiled dark jedi and not the Sith species. We don't know who the true Sith are, though they could be descendants of the Sith Empire. 5. No.
